Flick and Bayern continue their recent dominance as they collect their fifth trophy to go along with their other domestic and European success. It didn't end up being as straightforward for Die Roten as expected, but they will be delighted nonetheless. Next, they will be back in league action against Hertha Berlin, while Dortmund will host SC Freiburg.
Bayern raced in to an early lead through Tolisso and Muller but were pegged back by Haaland and Brandt to bring the scores level in the German Super Cup final. However, just like in the last Der Klassiker, it was Kimmich's goal which separated the two sides, as Bayern's midfielder clinched the winner with an unusual left-footed chip over Hitz in Dortmund's net.
90' + 3' FULL-TIME: BAYERN MUNICH 3-2 BORUSSIA DORTMUND
90' + 2' Hitz is up for Dortmund's corner which they play short. A bit of miscommunication between Davies and Neuer gifts Favre's side another chance to cross but the opportunity is wasted as there is a foul in the box by Can climbing on the back of Hernandez.
90' + 1' Muller and Gnabry look to seal the victory with a quick counter-attack, however, Akanji gets the better of them both and manages to play back towards Hitz.
90' There will be three minutes of added time at Allianz Arena as Dortmund go in search of an equaliser to take this final to penalties.
88' WIDE! Davies earns Bayern a free-kick 25 yards out in the centre of the pitch. Muller stands over it and whips a right-footed effort over the wall but just the wrong side of Hitz's right-hand post.
86' Hitz will feel unlucky for two of Bayern's three goals here. For the first he made an excellent save but was then punished by the crossbar and with the third goal, Dortmund's goalkeeper made another great save and Kimmich was lucky for the rebound to fall straight at his feet.
81' Gnabry slides Richards in on the overlap but the full-back's low cross is steered away from danger by Piszczek.
79' Lewandowski has been relatively quiet in this half and in fact, the whole of the game. The Polish striker is the all-time leading scorer in the German Super Cup with five goals and will be frustrated to have not added another goal to his tally so far.
78' It is now, perhaps, important to note that at the end of the 90 minutes this game will go straight to penalties if the scores are still level.
74' Pavard is fouled on the right by Dahoud in a potentially dangerous position for Bayern. Kimmich swings in a free-kick but it is greeted by a wall of yellow shirts and the cross is headed away.
70' Hitz sends a clearance wayward and out of touch under the pressure of Lewandowski. Bayern will have a good chance to develop an attack high up the pitch for the first time in this half.
66' Haaland brings the ball down on the halfway line and turns to attack Bayern's two centre-backs. Hernandez is forced in to bringing the striker down with a sliding tackle and concedes a free-kick.
65' Hitz applauds Meunier as his full-back makes a diving clearance to stop Davies from having a chance at the back post.
63' Haaland and Brandt link up down the left and the former nearly finds Reus in the area, however, Martinez does well to make a sliding interception.
61' In the opening fifteen minutes of this half Dortmund have already created three good chances. They have only taken one of them, through Haaland's equaliser, and it has to be considered how many times they can pass up these opportunites before Bayern punish them.
59' SAVE! Haaland breaks the offside trap and races towards Neuer's goal. The Norwegians striker makes in to the area and attempts to score a second with his left foot but this time Neuer does well to quickly close down the danger and makes a strong save diving to his right.
59' Kimmich dances round two Dortmund midfielders before unleashing a wild left-footed effort which goes well over the bar.
57' Meunier slides over the top of the ball and catches Lewandowski's left ankle. Bayern have a free-kick on the left of Dortmund's area in a great position. Kimmich wastes the opportunity as his cross goes straight in to the hands of Hitz.
53' Hummels is adamant that his side should have another corner. Replays show that referee Steinhaus is correct as Dahoud had slipped in to an offside position.
53' Pavard is caught out of position wide on the right which allows Brandt a chance to break. Dortmund's winger reaches Bayern's area before Sule is forced in to conceding a corner.
51' Favre's side have started the brighter of the two teams here. This time it is Haaland pressing Neuer high and forcing the goalkeeper in to uncharacteristically launching the ball long.
49' Will Dortmund be made to regret not taking that early chance? It is hard to imagine them creating too many openings as big as Meunier's chance just then.
47' CHANCE! Haaland holds up the ball well before passing to Dahoud. Meunier is in acres of space on the right and is played in, however, with just Neuer to beat he fires his shot well over the goal. The wing-back has to do better from there, that should be 2-2.
46' The second half follows the same pattern of the first. Bayern, again, attempt to break down the left through the combination of Davies and Coman, however, this time Meunier does well to intercept.
45' The players are back out on the pitch and referee Steinhaus gets the game back underway!
This game is Bayern's to lose, they look assured in possession and carry a constant threat on the counter-attack, as displayed by their first goal. Yet while Bayern have dominated, Favre will still feel his side are in the game and will continue to encourage his men to press high and force Bayern in to making sloppy mistakes inside their own defensive third.
Flick's team grabbed a deserved 2-0 lead early on, thanks to Tolisso's counter-attacking goal and Muller's towering header at the back post. However, a lapse in concentration offered Dortmund a way back in to the game and they duly obliged, with Brandt slamming home from close range. The sides go in 2-1 at the break, which perhaps flatters Favre's side, given Bayern's dominance for the majority of the half.
45' HALF-TIME: BAYERN MUNICH 2-1 BORUSSIA DORTMUND
43' It has to come as a suprise Bayern have scored twice and Lewandowski hasn't grabbed a goal yet. The striker has scored 18 goals in his last 20 competitive appearances against Dortmund.
41' That goal was so avoidable from Bayern, they had already nearly been caught out once by Dortmund's high press and this time it was Pavard, who gifted their opponents a chance but this time Brandt makes them pay for their mistake.
38' Another corner and another counter-attack by Bayern nearly results in a goal. Davies and Coman raced away and combined well but the latter failed to control the final pass, which allowed Dortmund to step in and recover.
37' Meunier attempts to knock it past Davies and run, however, the full-back is too quick for him and turns it away for a corner.
36' Dortmund do well to play out from the back, Dahoud evades the sliding tackle of Kimmich but then his pass to Meunier is poor and rolls out of play.
34' Haaland has become an increasingly frustrated figure in the last five minutes. Every Dortmund pass to him has lacked quality and often been too long for him to chase.
31' Akanji needlessly brings down Pavard and Bayern instantly play the resulting free-kick quickly. Kimmich's pass is too long and that will be easy for Can to deal with.
29' Pavard nearly assists Lewandowski via a deflected shot but Akanji gets in the way and turns it away for a corner.
27' Lewandowski exchanges a few words with the referee after he feels Can was gaining an unfair advantage in the air. Somehow Steinhaus sees it differently and awards Dortmund a free-kick.
25' That was very nearly another chance for Dortmund. Haaland speeds away from Bayern's midfield and rolls in Reus but Hernandez is too quick for Dortmund's captain and intervenes.
24' CHANCE! Neuer plays an awful pass out of defence which allows Dahoud a chance to break. Four Dortmund shirts close in on the area and the ball falls to Reus, who takes his time before shooting with his left foot. Neuer does well to get down to his left and parry it to safety.
22' SAVE! A short pass in to Kimmich's feet allows him space on the edge of the area. He gets his head up, and with no Dortmund defenders around him, unleashes a shot which Hitz palms away. Bayern's midfielder will perhaps feel he should have done better with that much time and space.
20' Delaney steps over the ball which allows Dahoud a chance from range. The midfielder lines one up from 25 yards but fires it well over Neuer's goal.
16' Kimmich fires a pass towards Muller, who runs over the ball expecting Lewandowski to be behind him. The two attackers are on a different wavelength to one another and that results in an easy interception for Hummels.
14' Can's frustrations are audible as he fouls Coman. Bayern knock the free-kick over the top and Tolisso earns a corner on the left.
12' Davies can count himself a little lucky as his poor defensive header nearly gifts Meunier a chance in Bayern's area. Luckily for the full-back, Martinez stepped in and earnt a free-kick before Dortmund could punish his mistake.
10' Bayern have the first chance of the game as Kimmich meets Pavard's cross at the back post. The header is on target but straight in to the hands of Hitz in net.
10' Kimmich was the difference the last time these two sides met in Der Klassiker. His first-half finish was enough to earn Bayern a 1-0 win back in May.
8' Haaland finds Passlack in space but the full-back can only direct his cross in to the stomach of Pavard on the right. Dortmund are finding pockets of room out wide frequently already.
6' Brandt carelessly gives possesion away, however, Bayern are too slow to break away and the chance to counter-attack is relinquished.
4' Dahoud attempts to play a short pass to release Haaland and the striker looks to be in on goal until Martinez steps in and sweeps up the danger.
2' Davies slides an inviting ball across the six-yard box but it bypasses every attacker and rolls out for a Dortmund goal-kick.
1' Referee Bibiana Steinhaus blows her whistle and the final is underway!
The players are making their way out on to the Allianz Arena turf and soon it will be time for kick-off.
The 127th Der Klassiker is a repeat of last year’s final in which Dortmund ran out 2-0 winners over Die Roten, thanks to goals from Sancho and Paco Alcacer.
Lucien Favre makes six changes to the team that lost to Augsburg. Jadon Sancho and Roman Burki miss out through injury, while Bellingham, Reyna, Guerreiro and Witsel also drop out. However, Reus returns to captain the side against their rivals.
As expected Hans-Dieter Flick selects his strongest side, making five changes to his last starting eleven. Lewandowski starts up front in place of Zirkzee and with Leroy Sane out injured, Champions League final match-winner Coman starts on the wing.

Both teams come in to this cup final off of the back of shock league defeats. Hoffenheim ended Bayern’s 32-game unbeaten streak with a crushing 4-1 victory, while Dortmund went down 2-0 to Augsburg at the weekend.
