Black Leopards coach Kerr reveals how he plotted Orlando Pirates' downfall at training

The victory was just the second of the season for Lidoda Duvha while it was the second league defeat this term for the Buccaneers

Black Leopards coach Dylan Kerr was pleased with how his men carried out his instructions in Sunday's 2-0 league victory over Orlando Pirates at the Thohoyandou Stadium.

The result, thanks to an Innocent Maela own goal and a Roderick Kabwe goal, lifted Leopards off the bottom of the table and up to 14th spot and should give the Limpopo side a major shot of confidence going forward.

For Pirates, who will surely have ambitions of challenging for the league title, it was a big setback and leaves them in fifth position and eight points adrift of the top two sides, Mamelodi Sundowns and Swallows FC.

For Kerr, there were several aspects to his team's play that made him happy.

"I've always said from day one that if we keep the ball moving, and keep possession and rotate the ball, with my players, nobody can touch us,” he said after the game.

"When we did (give possession away), we defended like a unit as we practised on Thursday. They did everything which was asked of them which was pleasing.

"I'm just pleased to keep a clean sheet, I don't think King [Ndlovu] had a save to make in 90 minutes, and that's Orlando Pirates you're playing against."

Kerr also played down the fact that his side had enjoyed more time to prepare for the game - Leopards did not have a midweek match, while Bucs beat Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila 3-0 on Wednesday, also at the Thohoyandou Stadium.

"I'm not going to make an excuse that they played on Wednesday and we didn't play, because we still trained as hard as they played and they've had lots of rest and recovery,” the Englishman said.

"On Thursday we did an hour on finishing, we did one v one, three v three, four v threes, overloads. And it showed, they actually did it for the first time in a long time, they did exactly what I asked them to do. Get into areas, get it wide, don't panic, don't rush things."
