AmaZulu coach McCarthy: With Shabba you can tell class is permanent

Ghana-born marksman Mohammed Anas scored seven minutes after the break to seal Lidoda Duvha's spot in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals

AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy was pleased with the contribution made by former Kaizer Chiefs star Siphiwe Tshabalala in Saturday afternoon's 1-0 loss to Black Leopards in a Nedbank Cup last 16 encounter at the Thohoyandou Stadium.

It was however very much a second-string Usuthu side which did battle in the Limpopo Province, against a Leopards team who recently hired former Orlando Pirates coach Kosta Papic as their ‘technical manager’.

McCarthy admitted to being disappointed at being knocked out, but was satisfied by the fact that he had been able to give some of his fringe players a run.

That included Tshabalala, who only had seven minutes of league action to his name this season prior to the 58 minutes he got against Leopards before being replaced by Mbongeni Gumede.

"We can't be too gutted about the result," McCarthy told SuperSport TV afterwards.

"Of course we always want to win, whichever team you put out there. But you know, the boys fought, and, they gave me a little bit of grey hairs – more – and headaches to think about.

“Because I think there were some great moments. Talent Chawapiwa, that’s not featured, he was superb, he was excellent.

“I think with Shabba you can tell, class is permanent. You know, he’s got the ability, he can pick a pass. Dead ball specialist, so there’s a lot of good quality that was coming out of that. And good performances from loads of the players who don’t usually get to play week in, week out," former Bafana Bafana striker McCarthy continued.

“So there are a lot of positives and that just shows the strength in depth in the team that we have. So hopefully from now until the end of the season we will be able to enter more and more players and get more great performances.

“But at the end of the day it's about winning and when you don’t win, as much as you can praise players for having some good performances and that, the fact of the matter is we are out, Leopards secured their passage to the next stage."

Gyasi’s double spares Spezia’s blushes against Parma in Serie A

The Italian-born enjoyed a fine outing in the matchday 24 fixture at Stadio Alberto Picco

Ghanaian striker Emmanuel Gyasi was Spezia’s hero of the day as his double helped snatch a 2-2 draw with Parma in the Italian Serie A on Saturday.

Hosts Spezia fell behind by two first-half goals from Yann Karamoh and Hernani Junior but the Ghanaian’s second-half efforts salvaged a point in the matchday 24 fixture at Stadio Alberto Picco.

The Black and Whites are now two places and 10 points above the relegation zone while Parma sit one spot from the bottom.

Gyasi has scored four goals and assisted four other strikes for his side who are fighting to maintain their elite division status following promotion from Serie B last season. He has featured in all 24 matches played by his club so far this term, starting in all but three of the games.

Karamoh broke the deadlock in the 17th minute, slotting past Spezia goalkeeper Ivan Provedel on the assist of Riccardo Gagliolo.

Eight minutes later, Hernani doubled the visitors’ lead after being set up by Juan Francisco Brunetta.

Spezia launched a fightback after the interval, earning a reward in the 52nd minute when Gyasi beat goalkeeper Luigi Sepe after being teed up by Guilio Maggiore.

Eighteen minutes to full time, the Black and Whites completed their comeback as the Ghanaian slotted into the net to make it 2-2, having been assisted by Daniele Verde.

Gyasi will hope to make it two successive games of scoring when they face giants Juventus on Tuesday.

Born to Ghanaian parents in the Italian city of Palermo, the 27-year-old is chasing his first Ghana call-up, having indicated his readiness to feature for the Black Stars. He has not played for his country of birth at any level.

“My dream is to play for the senior national team [Black Stars]. I believe hard work and determination can get me into the Black Stars. I have two mentors, Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan,” Gyasi told Asempa FM last year.

Werner embraces fresh start under Tuchel after ‘so many missed chances’ at Chelsea

The German forward endured a tough time under Frank Lampard, but hopes his spark will be rekindled with a fellow countryman at the helm

Timo Werner is embracing a fresh start at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel after admitting to missing “so many chances” in his early Blues career with Frank Lampard at the helm.

A club legend at Stamford Bridge was the man to bring a prolific Germany international forward to English football.

Roman Abramovich sanctioned a £47.5 million ($66m) move for Werner, and saw him net eight goals early on, but a managerial change was made with the 24-year-old in the midst of a barren run that delivered one strike in 20 games for club and country.

What has been said?

Werner, who netted his first goal for Tuchel in a 2-0 win over Newcastle, has told Sky Sports of having a fellow countryman at the helm: “When you have a new manager it is, every time, a new beginning for everybody, so it was a new beginning for me as well, because I said, 'OK, I missed so many chances, I missed so many points and maybe I will start now.'

“I understood the old manager very well, it was not because of the language. But I think when you can talk German to someone, you can explain some things easier, and maybe he [Tuchel] would explain things easier than the old manager, for example, because it can be different when you talk to someone in your own language.

“Maybe misunderstanding a word can make a sentence completely different.

“I think he has changed me in this way to give me his trust and change my confidence.

“I don't care about the missed chances or the past. I want to look to the future to get the team back to the top and to score goals.”

Werner’s record at Chelsea

A big-money addition has taken in 34 appearances for the Blues.

Across those outings, he has found the target on 10 occasions and contributed six assists.

Questions were asked of his value to the collective cause when enduring struggles in front of goal, which stretched to 1,000 minutes at one stage, but a regular role has been retained.

Werner was winning penalties and teeing up others when suffering a barren run on an individual front, while his work rate and positive mentality have never been in question.

The bigger picture

Tuchel is being backed to bring the best out of Werner and fellow Germany international Kai Havertz – another expensive addition that has failed to live up to expectations in west London.

That remains an ongoing process, but Chelsea are yet to suffer defeat through eight fixtures under the new coach.

Progress has been made to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and last-16 of the Champions League, while victory in a crunch clash with Manchester United on Sunday would lift the Blues back into the Premier League’s top four.

Orlando Pirates coach Zinnbauer: Top player Dlamini needs small spaces

The former Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder has played in only seven league and cup games this season, six of those coming off the substitutes bench

When Orlando Pirates needed a key to unlock the stubborn Maritzburg United defence, it was Kabelo Dlamini who did the trick after making a big impact off the bench in Bucs’ 3-1 Nedbank Cup last 16 win at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday evening.

Dlamini replaced Ben Motshwari at the half time interval in Pietermaritzburg, with Bucs trailing 1-0 at that stage after an early Thabiso Kutumela goal had put the hosts in front.

Ten minutes into the second stanza and Dlamini had the match back on even terms when his curling shot from just outside the box deflected off Maritzburg defender Clayton Daniels and into the net.

Deon Hotto then put Bucs in front just a minute later before Vincent Pule completed the scoring in the 78th minute, latching onto the rebound after Dlamini’s dipping shot had only been parried by goalkeeper Marcel Engelhardt.

Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer said that he had felt that his team had struggled in the first half, and was pleased with their response after making a few changes.

“We had a lot of good attacks (in the first half), we come to the final third, but the solution, the decisions, were not alright,” Zinnbauer told SuperSport TV after the game.

“At half time we spoke about this in the dressing room, and we changed a little bit the system. And then we came better in the game.”

Dlamini’s attacking guile from midfield was notable in the second half and his ability to thrive in tight situations ultimately changed the game.

“And then you see Dlamini come in, you see he scored, and [Vincent] Pule made the next step, and we have then what you expect from Pirates. They took the control, led the game, and won the game,” Zinnbauer commented.

“Dlamini is a player that needs small spaces, it's unbelievable for me, but he is a top player when he has a tight space. He finds always a good solution, and he can score - we know that.

“He was a long time out, now he comes closer and closer, step by step back to the squad and in the team now. He did this very well and I’m happy about this.”

Nnadozie shines as Yango's Guingamp hold Paris

The African stars featured prominently despite the two teams eventually sharing the spoils at Stade Robert Bobin

Chiamaka Nnadozie recorded her third clean sheet of the season for Paris as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Jeannette Yango's Guingamp in Saturday’s French D1 Arkema encounter.

Nigeria goalkeeper Nnadozie missed the Turkish Women's Cup due to illness but recovered in time to continue her consistency for Sandrine Soubeyrand's side on her seventh outing this season.

After the recent Coupe de France elimination against Dijon, the shot-stopper impressed at Stade Robert Bobin as she made back-to-back saves to deny the visitors an early lead in the 22nd minute.

Six minutes later, the hosts almost snatched the lead when Clara Mateo beat a defender and sent a pass to Linda Sallstrom but the latter's glorious attempt was eventually foiled by the defence.

Thiney Gaetane's free-kick was parried into the area by goalkeeper Solene Durand but neither Oriane Jean-Francois nor Mateo could convert the chance for Paris 10 minutes after the restart.

Mateo came close with a 25-metre strike but goalkeeper Durand was well positioned to deny Paris the lead in the 77th minute.

A minute from full-time, Faustine Robert almost gave the visitors the late matchwinner when she launched a brilliant strike from the right but goalkeeper Nnadozie did well to halt the attempt.

The draw saw Paris maintain their seventh position on the French league table, with 19 points from 14 matches this season.

Nnadozie was on parade for the entirety of the game for Paris and has now featured in eight games across all competitions this season and kept three clean sheets.

On the other hand, Cameroon's Yango featured from the start to finish, while Mali's Aissata Traore was an unused substitute for Guingamp.

In their next fixtures, Paris will visit Reims on March 6, while Guingamp welcome struggling Issy a week later.

'There is a title race, definitely' - Pique insists Barcelona are still alive after win at Sevilla

The Catalan giants closed the gap on leaders Atletico with a battling victory at Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique insisted the Liga title race is still wide open after his side narrowed the gap on leaders Atletico Madrid with a 2-0 victory over Sevilla on Saturday.

Lionel Messi scored one and set up the other for Ousmane Dembele as Ronald Koeman’s side moved to within two points of Atletico, albeit having played two games more.

Diego Simeone’s side can restore their five-point advantage with victory at Villarreal on Sunday.

What did Pique say?

Pique hopes Saturday’s win, their second in the space of four days, can act as a springboard for the rest of the season after an inconsistent few weeks.

Koeman’s side were well beaten by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and also need to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey semi-final next week.

"There's a title race, definitely,” he told reporters. "We've seen much worse things and the team, despite those two games [against Sevilla and PSG], is one to believe in this year.

"Sevilla, at home, didn't have a shot on target nor created clear chances.

"It's not an ideal situation, but I'm confident in the team. Everything is in our head. If we turn it around on Wednesday [against Sevilla], the season changes completely.

"We'd be in the final of the Copa, we're still alive in La Liga”

Injury concerns played down

Pique also played down any concerns of his fitness after he was forced off after 67 minutes.

The 34-year-old insists it was just as a precaution as he looks to ease his way back to full fitness, having only returned to action earlier this month after three months out with a knee injury.

"They're only little things," Pique added. "We've spoken to the boss about building my match load bit by bit.

"I'm playing more than I expected after so many months out injured. I've been able to train a bit and we'd agreed on a schedule.

"I'm very happy to be able to keep participating and I feel proud of today's game."

Borussia Dortmund star Sancho happy to set yet another Bundesliga record

The England international reached the milestone when crafting a goal for Mahmoud Dahoud

Jadon Sancho has expressed delight after becoming the youngest player in Bundesliga history to reach 50 assists.

In what was the 20-year-old’s 99th Bundesliga appearance, Sancho reached the milestone when crafting Borussia Dortmund’s opening goal in their 3-0 win over Arminia Bielefeld.

On 48 minutes, Sancho picked up the ball on the left and drove into the box before laying the ball into the path of Mahmoud Dahoud to fire home.

What was said?

On Twitter following the game, Sancho wrote: “Happy to be the youngest Bundesliga player to reach 50 assists.”

What else did Sancho say?

Sancho got his name on the scoresheet when slotting home a penalty on 58 minutes, and the winger revealed that it’s an area of his game he’s been working on.

“I’ve been practicing penalties and I think that’s a good addition for a forward player to have,” Sancho said.

“I was happy enough Marco [Reus] let me take the penalty and happy enough to score.”

After a tough start to the season, Sancho's form has been much improved since the turn of the year. He has seven goals and six assists to his name across all competitions in 2021.

What's next for Dortmund?

Dortmund, who are currently fifth in the Bundesliga, will face three games in three different competitions next: a DFB-Pokal match against Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday, followed by Der Klassiker against Bayern next weekend.

The club will then face Sevilla in the second leg of their last-16 Champions League match, carrying a 3-2 lead from the first leg.

LIVE: Hellas Verona vs Juventus

A tight and cagey affair at the Bentegodi sees both Hellas Verona and Juventus enter the half-time interval level at 0-0. There haven't been too many clear cut chances for either side, with Faraoni’s near post reverse-header the closest either team came to breaking the deadlock. Juve have ceded much of the ball to their opponents, favouring to hit on the counter-attack whenever possible; though Ronaldo has been kept very quiet. It’s all still to play for, with both Hellas and Juve more than capable of winning all three points from this position.

45' + 1' HALF-TIME: HELLAS VERONA 0-0 JUVENTUS.

43' Faraoni puts a cross into the penalty area after working some space - but sends his effort into the side netting after almost catching the keeper napping at his near post. It’s a goal-kick for the visitors - but another warning sign.

41' Bernardeschi’s corner from the left sails over the head of De Ligt and rolls out of the penalty area for Kulusevski to recollect and start again.

39' Demiral plays a poor ball in midfield, giving it right to Verona. A pass is played through De Ligt and Bentancur for Lasagna, but Szczesny is off his line to make the save at the foot of the keeper.

37' Juventus have kept a clean sheet in four of their last five league games, as many as in their previous 27 – no side has kept more than Juventus in this period in Serie A (level with Inter).

35' The free-kick is swung in by Barak, where it’s met at the edge of the 18 by the head of Faraoni. It’s sent to the far post, but without a team-mate in the vicinity it’s allowed to roll behind for a goal-kick.

32' Juventus are given a free-kick in the immediate aftermath of Verona’s set-piece after Lasagna is called for digging an elbow into the side of De Ligt. It looks a painful one for the centre-back, but the referee keeps his cards in his pocket.

30' The match is rising in intensity as a number of off-the-ball fouls have been called in recent moments - the most recent of which sees Ramsey booked for a push in midfield. The former Arsenal man needs to be careful, as he’s already on a booking.

28' Chiesa goes through the back of Zaccagni after a turnover in possession following a throw-in, allowing Hellas Verona to once again reorganise inside Juve’s half.

26' Ronaldo gets onto the ball just ahead of the 18-yard box and steps past not one but two defenders before firing a left-footed effort that sails high and wide of the target.

24' Juventus are being made to work very hard to clear their own half as Verona press high up the pitch. They’re given a little bit of respite this time however, as Sturaro is called for a foul on Rabiot.

22' Verona have won four points in their last two matches against Juventus in Serie A (W1 D1), having lost each of their previous three encounters; they could go unbeaten in three consecutive games in Serie A against the Bianconeri for the first time since the 80s (4 games: W2 D2).

20' Verona are enjoying a good spell of possession, but they’re being kept in midfield as Juventus close the space well ahead of their own 18-yard box. The hosts have been promising in the opening 20 minutes, giving Juventus some real trouble.

15' Good play from Juventus through Kulusevski, who takes on and beats a couple defenders on the right wing before cutting inside and squaring a pass to the edge of the 18 for Rabiot - whose first-time effort skews harmlessly away from goal.

13' Danger for Juventus as Dimarco is allowed to Szczesny’s penalty area and whip a pacey cross to the far post in search of Barak, who is a half-step behind the delivery.

11' The set-piece is hoisted into the penalty area in search of Barak, but three Juventus defenders converge to get a necessary clearing touch.

10' Lasagna gets to a loose ball first in midfield, forcing De Ligt into an awkward sliding challenge that brings the striker down. It’s not a booking for the defender, but Verona are given a free-kick in a dangerous area.

8' SZCZESNY GETS A CRUCIAL TOUCH! Verona take their first corner-kick short, before working a cross to the near post. Faraoni gets to it first to nod it back towards the target - forcing the goalkeeper to push the ball up off the crossbar and out!

6' Juventus’ attempt at a short corner ends in a Verona free-kick as Demiral drags back a defender in an attempt to get to Ramsey’s poor cross.

4' Juventus hoist a free-kick from midfield into the Verona penalty area, but De Ligt fails to catch his volley cleanly - sending it comfortably towards the goalkeeper.

2' A mishit clearance from Silvestri allows Ramsey through into the penalty area, but his low shot to the near post is pushed behind by the goalkeeper.

1' Hellas Verona get the match underway from the kick-off!

A change of formation sees three changes for Juventus from the side that thrashed Crotone 3-0 last time out. Szczesny returns between the posts replacing Buffon, while Bernardeschi replaces the suspended Danilo. Midfield also sees a change, as McKennie is dropped to the bench in favour of Rabiot.

Hellas Verona make two changes from their 2-2 draw with Genoa last week. Lazovic makes way for Dimarco on the left wing, while former Juventus midfielder Sturaro gets the nod ahead of Tameze.

JUVENTUS SUBS: Alessandro Di Pardo, Hamza Rafia, Nicolo Fagioli, Gianluigi Buffon, Riccardo Capellini, Weston McKennie, Gianluca Frabotta, Daouda Peeters, Radu Dragusin, Carlo Pinsoglio, Alejandro Marques, Marley Ake.

JUVENTUS XI (3-5-2): Wojciech Szczesny; Alex Sandro, Matthijs De Ligt, Merih Demiral; Federico Bernardeschi, Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot, Rodrigo Bentancur, Federico Chiesa; Cristiano Ronaldo, Dejan Kulusevski.

HELLAS VERONA SUBS: Alessandro Berardi, Adrien Tameze, Ronaldo Viera, Andrea Favilli, Daniel Bessa, Miguel Veloso, Pawel Dawidowicz, Federico Ceccherini, Iyenoma Destiny Udogie, Eddie Salcedo, Ivor Pandur, Darko Lazovic.

HELLAS VERONA XI (3-4-2-1): Marco Silvestri; Matteo Lovato, Koray Gunter, Giangiacomo  Magnani; Federico Dimarco, Ivan Ilic, Stefano Sturaro, Marco Faraoni; Mattia Zaccagni, Antonin Barak; Kevin Lasagna.

With 15 minutes to go before kick-off, let's take a look at how the two sides are lining up - starting with our hosts!

Juventus take to the pitch looking to put real pressure on the Milanese sides - both of whom play tomorrow. Currently eight points back of pace-setters Inter, Andrea Pirlo will have no doubts that the Bianconeri can continue to cut the points deficit in search of their 10th straight Scudetto - though they’ll have to manage today without a raft of attacking options including both Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata, who are sidelined.

Verona could add to their already impressive season with a scalp against incumbent champions Juventus, a win that would take them - at least temporarily - above Sassuolo and into eighth place. Ivan Juric has his side on a run of two matches without defeat after sustaining back-to-back losses against Roma and Udinese; the first time they had lost twice in succession all season.

Hello and welcome to our LIVE commentary of the Serie A fixture between Hellas Verona and Juventus!

McGuinness aiming to be next Arsenal academy success story as he seeks to follow in footsteps of Saka & Smith Rowe

The 20-year-old centre-half is currently taking in a loan spell at Ipswich, but opportunities could open up at Emirates Stadium in 2021-22

Mark McGuinness believes he can become the next Arsenal academy success story, with the 20-year-old defender looking to follow in the footsteps of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe.

Mikel Arteta has shown during his reign at Emirates Stadium that opportunities will be given to promising home-grown talent.

McGuinness faces enough competition for places at present that he has opted to head out on loan at Ipswich, but the intention is to catch the eye at his parent club in 2021-22.

What has been said?

“That’s my goal,” McGuinness has told football.london on his ambition of becoming a senior star at Arsenal.

“I’ve been at the club since I was 10 and that hasn’t changed. I’ve always wanted to play for Arsenal’s first team so that will never change.

"What I’m doing now is experience and hopefully I can kick on. My goal is to come back and try and get myself into the side.

"Obviously there’s other factors with other centre-halves in the first team and things like that, but that doesn’t stop me trying to get into the first team which is what I will try and do.

“If it doesn’t happen then it doesn’t happen, but that’s my main goal.”

How have youngsters fared at Arsenal this season?

Saka has become a senior England international in 2020-21 with the versatile 19-year-old now a key man for the Gunners, making 31 appearances across all competitions.

Classy playmaker Smith Rowe is another to have earned a big break, with the 20-year-old midfielder hitting two goals through 18 outings.

Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah remain part of the first-team fold in north London, while Joe Willock saw more minutes before linking up with Newcastle on loan in January.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is another home-grown star to have left Emirates Stadium for now, with the 23-year-old midfielder set to see out the 2020-21 campaign at West Brom.

Does McGuinness stand a chance?

The promising centre-half could see a path cleared for him at Arsenal.

Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi have already departed, while questions are being asked of Calum Chambers and Dinos Mavropanos’ future.

David Luiz is another that may head through the exits, with the veteran Brazilian set to see his current contract expire in the summer.

McGuinness will hope that his chance comes at some point, with Rob Holding and Gabriel Magalhaes among those to be nailing down starting berths under Arteta.

Monare: The sky is the limit for Orlando Pirates

The Buccaneers are into the Nedbank Cup last eight and are eyeing their second trophy of the season after winning the MTN8 in December

Orlando Pirates midfielder Thabang Monare is highly optimistic about the direction the team is heading in.

Bucs came from a goal down to beat Maritzburg United 3-1 in a Nedbank Cup last 16 encounter at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday evening.

Monare was named Man-of-the-Match, and speaking afterwards to SuperSport TV, he enthused about the depth of talent in the Pirates squad as well as the mentality they showed to come storming back in the second half with goals from Kabelo Dlamini, Deon Hotto and Vincent Pule.

"The attitude and mentality are the only things that changed. We knew what was at stake and what had to be done. We have a lot of talent in the team and it just requires the right attitude and that fight, which we did,” Monare commented.

“Credit to the guys, they worked very hard and we played against a side that also worked hard. So we had to match them, which we did in the second half. I think we can take off from here and learn.”

Dlamini, who came on as a half time substitute, made a significant impact in the second half.

"Even in the SuperSport game he came on and made a huge difference,” Monare said. “He gives us those options. We are at a team blessed with midfielders, blessed with a lot of talent.

“The coach is spoilt for choice and looking at the right mentality that we have, and the right attitude we have as players, you know, the sky is the limit.”

Speaking on his own fine performances, former Bidvest Wits midfielder Monare still wants to strive higher.

“I think I’m learning, I’m learning and I’m trying to improve myself as a player. I think there is always room for improvement and room to help the team. There are a couple of mistakes I did today and I have to learn and grow as a footballer," he concluded.

Next up for Pirates is a league encounter with Bloemfontein Celtic at the Orlando Stadium on March 2.

FA Cup: Yanga SC and Azam FC qualify for the fifth round after 1-0 wins over Ken Gold and Mbuni

The overall winner will represent Tanzania in the Caf Confederation Cup next season

Fiston Abdul Razak scored the lone goal as Yanga SC eliminated minnows Ken Gold from the Tanzania FA Cup at Uhuru Stadium on Saturday.

Timu ya Wananchi started the match as favourites owing to their recent run in the Tanzania Mainland League. However, their visitors were well organised and did not easily crack under pressure despite a series of attacks by the Tanzanian heavyweights.

The 27-time league champions had to wait until the 40th minute to get a break-through.

Boniface Mwanjonde handled the ball in the danger zone and the referee awarded the 2019/20 semi-finalists a penalty. The Burundian rose for the occasion, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and scored the only goal of the match.

Substitute Carlos Carlinhos had a chance of doubling the advantage but his attempt was saved by the goalkeeper. However, the Angolan was sent off with eight minutes to go after elbowing Mwanjonde.

Despite being a man less, Timu ya Wananchi held on to qualify for the fifth round of the competition.

2018/19 champions Azam FC laboured to a 1-0 win over Mbuni in another Cup game staged at Azam Complex, Chamazi in Dar es Salaam. The lone goal came in the 46th minute.

Zimbabwean Prince Dube danced his way past three defenders before unleashing a fierce strike past the goalkeeper to hand his team the passage to the next round.

Polisi Tanzania also qualified for the next round of the competition after defeating Kwamndolwa FC 4-0.

Deusdedity Cosmas capitalised on poor defending in the 13th minute to score their first goal for the administrative side. The second goal came in the 26th minute when Daruesh Saliboko converted a corner.

The third goal came in the 69th minute when Pius Buswita slipped in the danger zone and had an easy chance, tapping the ball into an empty net.

A swift counter-attack in the 80th minute ended with the ball on George Mpole who went past the defender and his goalkeeper before hitting the roof of the net.

Simba SC are the defending champions after beating Namungo FC 2-1 in the final last season.

The overall winner will represent Tanzania in the Caf Confederation Cup.

Jorginho ‘very happy’ at Tuchel’s new-look Chelsea after previously sparking exit talk

The Italy international has nailed down a regular role under the German tactician, with a welcome upturn in form enjoyed at Stamford Bridge

Jorginho was sparking transfer talk at Chelsea during the summer of 2020, but the Italy international midfielder claims to be “very happy” forming part of Thomas Tuchel’s new-look Blues.

Another managerial change at Stamford Bridge was implemented in January, with club legend Frank Lampard ushered through the exits as a highly rated German tactician was appointed in his place.

Jorginho is among those to have thrived in a new system, with a regular role nailed down, and any exit plans have been shelved for now.

What has been said?

Jorginho has told Chelsea’s official website of his current standing in west London: “I’m very happy because the team is doing very well, working hard, trying to understand what the coach wants.

“I think it’s the right way to move forward.

“He understood the characteristics of the players and the way he wants to play is good for our characteristics.

“So he understood that and he’s trying to give us the advice and the right way to work and then the results are coming.”

The bigger picture

Jorginho has been impressing in the Blues midfielder alongside Croatian star Mateo Kovacic, with the pair helping Tuchel to go unbeaten through his opening eight games as Chelsea boss.

“I have a very good relationship with him because we think the same way about football, we understand each other,” Jorginho added on playing with Kovacic.

“We know what we want to do, what each other wants to do, so I find it quite easy playing with him because we think the same way.

“We know who needs to be in that position in that moment so we leave space for each other in the right moment. We cover each other’s backs, we understand when we need to be close to each other and when we don’t.

“That’s what I was saying when I said we understand each other and think the same way, we understand the right moment to close the space or find a one-two or just to give space for him to drive the ball, because he has the ability to do that.

“I know when he needs that space to drive forward or when he’s a bit in trouble and needs help.”

Chelsea, who have moved up to fifth in the Premier League table, will be back in action on Sunday when they take in a home date with Manchester United.

KCCA outwit Kitara FC, Mbarara City down Kyetume FC as SC Villa fall to UPDF FC

The Kasasiro Boys picked up the home win as they continue to look a stronger side after wanting results in the previous encounters

KCCA FC emerged 4-0 winners against Kitara FC in a Ugandan Premier League tie on Saturday at the Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

Peter Magambo's brace coupled with goals from Andrew Kigozi and Bright Anukani handed the Kasasiro Boys the win at home against the league debutants.

Magambo scored the opener for KCCA in the 11th minute with a brilliant header after a dominant first 10 minutes. Sadat Anaku, who was returning and got his first call-up in the first team after clearing license demands, saw his effort flew wide from the edge of the box in the 29th minute.

A rather rough challenge on Ashraf Mugume saw Kitara's Dennis Monday become the first man to be cautioned with a yellow card in the 41st minute.

Coach Mike Mutebi made changes as the second half started with Kigozi replacing Keziron Kizito while Charles Lwnaga replaced Brian Aheebwa.

A mistake by Kitara's goalkeeper gave Bright Anukani a great chance to double KCCA's lead with a comfortable tap-in in the 50th minute. Three minutes later, they extended their lead when Magambo scored his brace with Ronald Musana providing the assist.

At the hour mark, Kigozi's fierce shot found the back of the net for KCCA's fourth goal with Anukani being the provider of the killer assist.

Filbert Obenchan then lobed the ball for Lwanga, who headed wide from a promising position in the 79th minute.

Anaku was replaced in the 83rd minute as he looked injured and Samuel Kato was thrown into action instead.

At Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara City emerged 3-1 winners over Kyetume FC. Henry Kitengenyi, who was making his debut, gave the Ankole Lions the opener in the 47th minute.

Two minutes after getting the opener, Kyetume equalised via Yusuf Ssaka's effort but Swalib Bebe restored the lead once again in the 58th minute with a nice strike. Wuol Makueth scored the third in the 67th minute to ensure the hosts picked up the three points on offer.

Finally, Sports Club Villa were defeated 1-0 by Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces. Ezekiel Kantende, who was voted the man of the match, scored the only goal of the encounter in the 74th minute.

Akintola and Mame Diouf bag brace, Paintsil sent off as Hatayspor beat Ankaragucu

The African stars endured mixed fortunes as the Star of the South secure victory over Hikmet Karaman’s men at Hatay Ataturk Stadi

Babajide Akintola and Mame Diouf bagged a brace each while Joseph Paintsil was sent off as Hatayspor decimated Ankaragucu 4-1 in Saturday’s Turkish Super Lig game.

Nigerian forward Akintola was afforded his 22nd league appearance since teaming up with the Star of the South in the summer on a season-long loan from Midtjylland.

The forward delivered a spectacular performance in the encounter, scoring twice to increase his tally and help his side secure an effortless win.

Diouf, who is also enjoying his debut season with the Star of the South, played a key role in Hatayspor’s victory with his sparkling performance in front of goal in the outing.

Ghana international Paintsil had a game to forget in a hurry, as he was shown a straight red card at Hatay Ataturk Stadi.

Ankaragucu hit the ground running, opening the scoring in the 16th minute through Torgeir Boerven after he was set up by Saba Lobzhanidze.

Diouf then ignited his side’s comeback with a fine effort to level proceedings for Hatayspor after receiving an assist from Selim Ilgaz.

Paintsil was then sent off by referee Atilla Karaoglan a few minutes before the end of the first-half for serious foul play.

After the restart, Omer Erdogan’s men continued their domination with Diouf completing his brace in the 55th minute from the penalty spot.

Akintola then scored a penalty to further increase his side’s lead in the 65th minute and got his second in the 74th minute after he was set up by Alexandros Katranis to seal the victory for the Hatay Ataturk Stadi outfit.

The Nigerian forward and Diouf featured for the duration of the game to help Hatayspor climb to the fifth spot on the Super Lig table after gathering 45 points from 26 games.

Akintola has now scored seven goals in 24 appearances across all competitions while Diouf has found the back of the net 10 times and provided five assists this season.

Akintola and Diouf will hope to continue their impressive performances for the Star of the South in their next league game against Sivasspor on March 3.

LIVE: Dijon vs PSG

45' + 1' HALF-TIME: DIJON 0-2 PSG.

45' The fourth official signals that one minute will be added to the end of the half for stoppages.

44' PSG take a corner short to Draxler, but Rafinha’s eventual shot is blocked at the edge of the 18-yard box.

42' With under five minutes to go in the half, it looks as though PSG will maintain their clean sheet, as Navas has yet to face a shot.

40' Dijon have lost their last six Ligue 1 games, the longest current run and the longest run in the club’s top-flight history.

38' Dijon have made slow progress in the first half since going a goal behind, making their way closer and closer to Navas’ goal - but the penalty conceded will undo all that good work. With a bit of insurance in their back pocket, it seems unlikely that the league’s second-best defence will concede from this position.

36' DRAXLER SCORES BUT IT’S OFFSIDE! Mbappe gets behind the defence after a lovely throughball from Herrera and squares it to Draxler, who finishes comfortably into an open net. The goal won't stand though, as Mbappe was deemed to be offside during the initial pass in the sequence.

30' PENALTY TO PSG! Rafinha sends a pass across the face of Dijon’s 18-yard box for Kehrer, who hits his shot at the first time of asking. Celina is the Dijon man covering, but he blocks the full-back's effort with his hand! It’s right in front of the referee - who points to the spot immediately!

29' Great defending from Panzo wins his side a goal-kick after the defender is able to send his clearance off of the onrushing Kehrer and behind his net.

27' After going a goal ahead, PSG have really slowed the tempo of the match down. They’re doing well to control possession, though there is a distinct lack of intensity in the visitors when going forward.

23' Dijon have lost 10 of their 11 Ligue 1 games against Paris (W1), never keeping a clean sheet against them (37 goals conceded, an average of 3.4 per game).

21' Diallo is again looking to feed Kean, who turns with real skill to get by Coulibaly. The centre-back makes up for his earlier misstep, however, taking up a good position to shield the ball out for a goal-kick.

19' Panzo goes for a rare run down the flank before serving Muzinga, but the eventual cross is a poor one and cleared easily by Marquinhos for a throw-in.

17' PSG’s 4-3-3 looks to have turned into a 4-2-3-1, with Herrera and Danilo holding - which allows Rafinha to step further up the pitch in a playmaker role. Draxler and Mbappe have held their positions on the flanks - both playing to serve the furthest player forward; Kean.

15' Racioppi comes flying off his line to get to a loose ball inside his 18-yard box before Mbappe, but he spills his initial catch. Panzo is there to help out his team-mate though, hoofing the ball down the pitch to give his side time to readjust.

13' Paris see no need to rush as they hold possession in midfield, cycling the ball between Danilo and Herrera. Their opponents will be forced to chase, which can only help PSG in the later stages of the match.

11' The set-piece is taken short to Mbappe, but the visitors are unable to find any room as they’re forced to turn backwards and bring Navas into play - looking to restart from defence.

9' Coulibaly takes Mbappe down on the left flank, giving PSG an opportunity to heap more pressure on the hosts.

8' Dijon have quite a mountain to climb if they wish to take anything from the match. The lowest-scoring team in the league, they’ve only managed four goals in their last five matches; which doesn’t bode well against PSG’s stout defence.

5' Diallo plays a dangerous pass through into the penalty area for Mbappe, who is unable to get the ball out from under his feet as Racioppi comes off his line to make an awkward clearance.

4' The set-piece is taken short to Mbappe, but Dijon get their defensive covering correct and win possession back near their own corner flag.

3' Mbappe gets into a good crossing position on the left and chips it to the far post for Draxler - but it’s turned behind for a corner by a marking defender.

2' Pochettino will be hoping for smooth sailing in the second 45 minutes, as his side are in an enviable position; able to either pursue more goals or hold the lead they’ve already accumulated. With a number of players missing through injury, perhaps the coach will take this time to shuffle his pack and give some experience to those who don’t feature as often. For Dijon, they have only one option as they’ll be forced to open up and go for broke in the second half, looking to overturn a large deficit.

1' It’s been a comfortable first-half for Paris Saint-Germain, who take a 2-0 lead into half-time at the Stade Gaston-Gerard. Kean’s opener after just six minutes put Dijon on the back foot immediately; a position they would be in for the entirety of the opening 45 minutes. Mbappe’s conversion from the penalty spot gave the visitors a bit of insurance after a half-hour - which looks enough to take the three points. Dijon for their part have been poor, failing to trouble Navas at all, while maintaining less than 40% possession; though it could have been worse as Draxler’s goal was eventually chalked off for offside.

1' Dijon get the match underway from the kick-off!

Pochettino makes five changes of his own to the PSG XI that lost 2-0 to Monaco last weekend. Kehrer and Diallo replace Florenzi and Kurzawa in defence, the latter of the two pushing Kimpembe to left-back in order to play in the centre. Rafinha and Danilo are preferred to Paredes and Gueye in midfield, while Mauro Icardi drops out of the side for Draxler.

Dijon make five changes to the side that lost 2-1 to Lens last time out, as Linares goes for wholesale changes in midfield and attack. A trio of Celina, Ebimbe and Cheikh replaces Marie, Wesley Lautoa and Ibrahim Ndong in the middle of the park, while Konate and Balde are preferred to Mounir Chouair and the suspended Aboubakar Kamara at striker.

PSG SUBS: Xavi Simons, Sergio Rico, Idrissa Gueye, Edouard Michut, Mitchel Bakker, Layvin Kurzawa, Colin Dagba, Pablo Sarabia, Timothee Pembele.

PSG XI (4-3-3): Keylor Navas; Thilo Kehrer, Marquinhos, Abdou Diallo, Presnel Kimpembe; Ander Herrera, Danilo Pereira, Rafinha; Julian Draxler, Moise Kean, Kylian Mbappe.

DIJON SUBS: Arthur Zagre, Yassine Benzia, Anibal Chala, Jordan Marie, Mihai-Alexandru Dobre, Frederic Sammaritano, Fouad Chafik, Roger Assale, Saturnin Allagbe.

DIJON XI (5-3-2): Anthony Racioppi; Ngonda Muzinga, Jonathan Panzo, Bruno Ecuele Manga, Senou Coulibaly, Sacha Boey; Bersant Celina, Eric Ebimbe, Pape Cheikh; Moussa Konate, Mama Balde.

With 20 minutes to go before kick-off, let's take a look at how the two sides will line up today - starting with our hosts!

Mauricio Pochettino looks to get his side back on track with a win after last week’s 2-0 defeat at home to Monaco. Paris sit third in what is the closest title race in France in quite some time - four points back of pace-setters Lille. With the best attack in the league, there’s no doubt that PSG will be looking to hit the back of the net early and often, despite the continued absence of Neymar and Angel Di Maria.

Dijon have 12 matches to make up the nine-point gap that separates relegation and safety, as David Linares’ side sit rock bottom with just under a third of the season left to play. On the back of six straight losses and 10 matches without a win - it will take a herculean effort from the hosts if they are to beat PSG for the first time since 2019 (losing by an aggregate score of 14-1 since then).

Onduparaka FC 1-3 Vipers SC: Venoms break Arua jinx, reclaim top spot

The reigning champions were dominant all through as they went on to pick up a vital win that keeps them at the apex of the league table

Vipers SC returned to the top of the Ugandan Premier League table after claiming a 3-1 win against Onduparaka FC on Saturday at Green Light Stadium in Arua.

Ibrahim Orit, Ceasar Manzoki and Paul Mucureezi scored for the champions while Living Kabon denied them a clean sheet with a late penalty.

Vipers took the lead in the 26th minute when Orit headed past the Caterpillars goalkeeper Michael Kagiri after receiving a good delivery from Disan Galiwango.

The teams were given the first water break at the half-hour mark with Vipers looking the hungrier side.

Kabon was denied in the 36th minute with a quick clearance by Vipers defender Rashid Toha to ensure the visitors head into the half-time break with a slim lead.

Viper coach Fred Kajoba made a 55th-minute change when he brought on Mucureezi for Mohamad Shaban and four minutes later, they doubled their lead when Manzoki tapped in past Kagiri. Mucureezi played a critical role resulting in the goal as his effort rebounded for Manzoki to score rather comfortably.

Mucureezi added the third goal three minutes after the hour mark as the Venoms became more dominant and determined away from home.

Allan Kayiwa was brought on in the 71st minute to replace the hardworking Manzoki before a second water break was taken

Five minutes before the full-time whistle, Kajoba made three more changes - he brought on David Bagoole, Joseph Dhata, and Dan Sserunkuma in place of Karim Watambala, Orit, and Yunus Ssentamu, who has impressed since his return to the side.

Kabon scored via a penalty in the 90th minute to deny the Premier League champions a clean sheet.  The victory in Arua would serve as one of the sweetest for Vipers who have often struggled to get wins at the venue.

The win came as Kajoba missed key players -  Dennis Kiggundu is suffering from a knee injury, captain Halid Lwaliwa was ruled out by an eye problem, Lawrence Tezikya sat out due to an ankle injury while Abraham Ndugwa was ruled out by a hamstring issue. Siraje Ssentamu and Milton Karisa were unavailable due to a hamstring and a torn muscle, respectively.

Onduparaka FC XI: Kagiri, Rodgers, Akoch, Okocha, Andama, Agaba, Kabon, Jangeyambe, Okech, Mohammed.

Subs: Opoka, Okot, Adinho, Ajobe, Ochen, Adriko, Magombe, Yakubu, Muwonge.

Vipers SC XI: Ssekagya, Willa, Galiwango, Toha, Asiku, Ssali, Watambala, Orit, Shaban, Manzoki, Ssentamu.

Subs: Mutombora, Mulondo, Dhata, Bagoole, Kayiwa, Sserunkuma, Mucureezi.
