Why is Mamelodi Sundowns' Lakay not in Bafana Bafana squad? Mokwena doesn't understand

The Cape Town-born player has been one of the most consistent left-backs in the PSL in the last few seasons

Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Rhulani Mokwena has questioned Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos’ constant overlooking of Lyle Lakay.

The 30-year-old full-back is among the top left-backs in the country and he is has established himself as Sundowns' set-piece specialist.

Last season proved to be one of Lakay's best season as a professional footballer having played 35 matches across all competitions - scoring five times and providing seven assists.

The former Bloemfontein Celtic player has carried his good form into the current campaign having provided two assists from three competitive matches.

Mokwena feels that Lakay should be part of the South Africa squad along with his Sundowns teammate Rushine De Reuck, who started against Zimbabwe and Ghana in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers earlier this month.

“If we look at the performances of Rushine De Reuck and Lyle Lakay – I still don’t understand why Lyle is not in the national team," Mokwena said on the Citizen.

"But it is what it is. We try to focus on what we have to focus on and we try to improve our performances because those are the things we can control.

“What we can’t control and improve, we leave it over to the almighty and we ask God for his contribution because that is what life is about.”

Kaizer Chiefs full-back Sibusiso Mabiliso was the only natural left-back who was called up by Broos for Bafana's clashes against Zimbabwe and Ghana.

Lakay will be hoping to be included in the South Africa squad which will face Ethiopia home and away in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers next month.

The SuperSport United academy product was named in the Bafana squad that faced Sao Tome and Principe in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers late last year by then-South Africa coach Molefi Ntseki.

However, Lakay, who is yet to make his debut for the senior national team, was an unused substitute as the 1996 African champions defeated Sao Tome and Principe twice.

He is a former South Africa under-20 international having been part of the Amajita squad at the 2011 Africa U20 Cup of Nations finals in Johannesburg.

Hungary 0-4 England: Player ratings as Three Lions battle to victory

This is the second consecutive Champions League campaign in which Inter Milan and Real Madrid have been drawn in the same group – the Spanish side won home and away against them in 2020-21, including a 2-0 victory at the San Siro.

Madrid have made two changes to their line-up from their victory over Celta Vigo at the weekend. Alaba and Vazquez come into the fold in place of Gutierrez and Hazard respectively. Ancelotti shifts his formation to a 4-3-3 rather than a four-man midfield used last time out.

Inzaghi makes one change to his side that drew against Sampdoria last time out. Bastoni comes back into the side after missing the contest at the weekend and replaces Dimarco on the left side of the defence. Dzeko and Martinez spearhead the attack for the Nerazzurri.

REAL MADRID SUBS: Jesus Vallejo, Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio, Andriy Lunin, Luka Jovic, Rodrygo, Isco, Mariano Diaz, Eduardo Camavinga, Antonio Blanco, Miguel Gutierrez, Toni Fuidias.

REAL MADRID (4-3-3): Thibaut Courtois; Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Nacho Fernandez, David Alaba; Federico Valverde, Casemiro, Luka Modric; Lucas Vazquez, Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior.

INTER SUBS: Denzel Dumfries, Roberto Gagliardini, Alexis Sanchez, Matias Vecino, Aleksandar Kolarov, Andrea Ranocchia, Joaquin Correa, Alex Cordaz, Arturo Vidal, Federico Dimarco, Danilo D'Ambrosio, Ionut Radu.

INTER (3-5-2): Samir Handanovic; Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij, Alessandro Bastoni; Matteo Darmian, Nicolo Barella, Marcelo Brozovic, Hakan Calhanoglu, Ivan Perisic; Edin Dzeko, Lautaro Martinez.

Madrid have also enjoyed a good start to the season under new management. Carlo Ancelotti's men carry a four-match unbeaten run into the contest, topping LaLiga in the early stages of the term. Los Blancos were at their free-flowing best in a 5-2 hammering of Celta Vigo last time out. Ancelotti will be desperate for another clinical performance in a tense clash on the road.

Inter embark on their Champions League campaign in their bid to win the competition for the first time in 12 years. New manager Simone Inzaghi has made a solid start to his reign in Serie A with a three-match unbeaten run, although his team were held to a 2-2 draw by Sampdoria last time out. The Nerazzurri will have to up their standards against Madrid tonight to kick off their Group D campaign on the front foot.

Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Champions League Group D clash between Inter and Real Madrid at San Siro.

PSG awaiting Tottenham decision on Dele Alli transfer

City are highly experienced when it comes to the Champions League group stage and dispatching German opposition. The hosts are unbeaten in their last 17 Champions League group stage games and won all four of their games against German sides last season. Meanwhile, Leipzig have lost three of their last four away games in the competition, failing to score in all three defeats. This will be an early chance for Leipzig to show the big boys what they're made of this season.

Guardiola makes four changes to the City side that won 1-0 away to Leicester City last weekend. Zinchenko, Ake, De Bruyne and Mahrez come in as Torres leads the front line. There are three changes to Leipzig from their 1-4 home shellacking by Bayern Munich.

City's first opponents are RB Leipzig in what will be these teams' first ever meeting in European competition. Germany's second best side last season, Leipzig will be hopeful of squeezing through a group which not only features City but also Paris Saint-Germain. Their progress will depend on their ability to pick up points against such heavyweight sides.

For Man City, the Champions League remains the holy grail. After being beaten by Chelsea in last season's final, Pep Guardiola and his men will be itching to lift the famous trophy at last in Saint Petersburg next year. That starts with City safely navigating a potentially awkward Group A and, first of all, achieving their 50th ever win in the competition.

LIVE: Liverpool vs AC Milan

The teams are out on the pitch now, with kick-off just moments away!

Liverpool and Milan have only met on two previous occasions in European competition, with both coming in the final of the Champions League. The Reds won 3-2 on penalties in 2005 before losing 1-2 in normal time in 2007.

Stefano Pioli makes three changes to his team after their win over Lazio last time out, with Kjaer, Bennacer and Saelemaekers all brought into the team. Romagnoli, Tonali and Florenzi start on the bench, where Giroud is also named after recovering from coronavirus.

Jurgen Klopp makes four changes to the side that beat Leeds United on Sunday. Gomez makes his first start since last November after recovering from knee surgery, with Keita, Henderson and Origi also coming in. Van Dijk, Mane and Thiago drop to the bench, while Harvey Elliott is ruled out due to a dislocated ankle he suffered in that match.

MILAN SUBS: Andreas Jungdal, Pierre Kalulu Kyatengwa, Alessio Romagnoli, Olivier Giroud, Alessandro Florenzi, Matteo Gabbia, Ciprian Tatarusanu, Daniel Maldini, Fode Ballo-Toure, Sandro Tonali.

MILAN STARTING XI (4-2-3-1): Mike Maignan; Davide Calabria, Simon Kjaer, Fikayo Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Franck Kessie, Ismael Bennacer; Alexis Saelemaekers, Brahim Diaz, Rafael Leao; Ante Rebic.

Liverpool have made an unbeaten start to their season, winning three and drawing one of their opening four games in the Premier League, keeping three clean sheets in that run. They're looking to get out of a tough group that also contains Porto and Atletico Madrid to try and improve on last season when they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Real Madrid. Milan are making their first appearance in the Champions League in eight years and come into this game having made a perfect start to Serie A with three wins out of three so far.

Finidi George: Enyimba hire former Nigeria international

The 50-year-old has been named as the new Peoples' Elephant handler after they parted ways with coach Fatai Osho

Ajax legend Finidi George has been named as the new coach of two-time African champions Enyimba.

The former Nigeria international was announced as the Peoples’ Elephant's new handler on Wednesday afternoon in an event held at the Enyimba International Stadium.

The club had parted ways with coach Fatai Osho following his failure to win the Nigeria Professional Football League diadem.

“Enyimba Football Club has appointed Finidi George as its new head coach,” a statement from the club website read.

“The former Ajax and Real Betis winger, who replaces Fatai Osho whose contract expired at the end of August, has joined the eight times Nigerian champions on a two-year contract.

“George, a legend of Nigeria’s men’s senior national team, made 62 appearances for the Super Eagles in an illustrious playing career that lasted up to fifteen years.

“He was a key member of the glorious era that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994 and represented the country at two Fifa World Cups – the 1994 and 1998 editions.”

The former Ipswich Town and Real Mallorca man appreciated the management of the Aba giants for a chance while assuring that he would play his own role well.

“I have to say it’s a great opportunity for the club to have this confidence in me,” George was quoted by the club website.

“I want to thank the chairman, the members of the board, and the supporters for even thinking about me.

“On my own part, I will be here to just work and do the job. It’s never going to be easy but I’m here to work and make the team win.”

In his own remark, chairman of the club Felix Anyansi Agwu claimed that the ex-Super Eagle’s arrival marks a new chapter for Enyimba.

“I believe that the time has come for us as a club to open up a new chapter, a chapter that will showcase the many hard work that has been going on behind the scene and usher in lots of success,” he said.

“For us to have engaged a coach like Finidi George who is coming from Europe is a clear statement of intent about our aspirations.”

George will make his debut in charge when Enyimba square up against Senegalese side Diambers FC in October’s Caf Confederation Cup first round fixture.

Egypt FA upholds ban on foreign goalkeepers across all leagues

The former Bafana Bafana international stressed the importance of loyalty having spent more than a decade at Bucs

Orlando Pirates icon Lucky Lekgwathi may have aimed an indirect dig at George Lebese and Oupa Manyisa as he explained why nowadays players do not stay long at a single club.

Lebese and Manyisa began their professional careers at Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates, respectively, where they were cult heroes, before they left the two Soweto giants for big spenders Mamelodi Sundowns in 2017.

Lekgwathi, who achieved legendary status at Pirates during his 12-year spell with the club, feels that nowadays professional footballers play for money instead of representing the badge of the club.

“It is not common because you know today players they are after money. If you remember back then players used to play for a badge, but now players are after money,” Lekgwathi told iDiski Times.

“If you want to play them obviously they will move on another team, and if you check most players want to play for Sundowns because they say it is a team that can play more than anyone.

“So that’s why now people don’t have loyalty because of money. This is why sometimes we have to learn from our bosses that you mustn’t be after money, you must be after loyalty, so that even after playing a certain team you can still go play elsewhere."

The man nicknamed Phinda Mzala was speaking after his former Pirates teammate Happy Jele, who is one of the few one-club men in the PSL, became the first player to reach 400 appearances for the Soweto giants when he started against Swallows FC over the weekend.

Phinda Mzala refused to reveal the names of players he was taking a dig at with, Lebese and Manyisa having struggled to make a major impact at Sundowns and they were released by the Tshwane giants.

“But it is 50/50, sometimes it pays, sometimes it doesn’t pay. I think it is nice to stick to one team, because if you can check most players retire at a young age because they don’t want to be loyal to their teams," he continued.

“If you look at players that have left Orlando Pirates and went to Sundowns or left Kaizer Chiefs and went to Sundowns, where are they today? I don’t want to mention names, they are too many.

"So it teaches us something, but players are players, they won’t change, and they are there to make money to support their families.”

Lebese and Manyisa are currently clubless, but the latter has been strongly linked with National First Division club Platinum City Rovers.

What does Cristiano Ronaldo’s 'siiiiii' celebration mean?

The Portugal international has deployed an array of celebrations over the years, but one in particular has come to define his goalscoring exploits

Football's goal celebrations come in all shapes and most players have their own unique expression of joy.

Jurgen Klinsmann famously poked fun at his depiction as a diver in the press by performing a dive after scoring, while Paul Pogba has a number of different dance routines.

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest goalscorers of all time, so has had plenty of opportunities to work at his celebrations, and he has settled upon a select few moves, but the most famous is his "siiiiii" one.

In case you're wondering what it means, Goal brings you everything to know about Ronaldo's celebration

What does Cristiano Ronaldo's 'siiiiii' celebration mean? How to do the Cristiano Ronaldo 'siiiiii' celebration

What does Cristiano Ronaldo's 'siiiiii' celebration mean?

Ronaldo's trademark goal celebration sees him perform a mid-air pirouette before exclaiming "si!" (sometimes spelled "siu") - which is Spanish for "yes!" - upon landing. It is an expression of delight at scoring.

After Ronaldo jumps and lands, supporters normally join the forward in roaring the word, producing a booming sound which reverberates throughout the stadium.

The 'si!' celebration has become synonymous with Ronaldo in the later part of his career and he first began performing it when he was at Real Madrid.

He famously screamed "siiiiii!" on stage at the 2014 Ballon d'Or ceremony after collecting the award ahead of perennial rival Lionel Messi, prompting a mixed response, with many left bewildered by the outburst.

FIFA's translator was evidently taken aback by it and some of the attendees, such as then Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, could be seen laughing.

"The scream? The players know I always do that shout when I score a goal or when we win," Ronaldo told  Spanish TV station Cuatro afterwards.

"It’s our shout, from Real Madrid."

While the attacker said back then that it was the celebratory shout of the Real Madrid team, it is quite clearly his trademark and he continued to use it when he transferred to Juventus.

Given Ronaldo's popularity as a player, it is no surprise that his fans regularly mimick the celebration. Interestingly, however, even his fellow professionals have copied the move.

in 2019, Serbia international Mark Grujic performed a rendition of the 'siiiiii' celebration after scoring a goal against Schalke while on loan at Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin.

"Pure emotion. I could not control it, it just happened like that," Grujic told Bild . "I look up to Ronaldo. He is a great role model for me because he works obsessively on his development."

Later in the year, members the K-League All-Star team did it during a match against Juventus, which elicited a wry smile from the Portuguese, who had a front-row seat on the bench.

How to do the Cristiano Ronaldo 'siiiiii' celebration

In order to do Ronaldo's famous "siiiiii" celebration you need to run, jump, turn in mid-air, then throw your hands down to the side when you land.

The position of the legs when landing is crucial too - they must be spread wide in a 'power stance' - and ideally you will have your back to the crowd, thus displaying the name on your shirt.

Once the pirouette is complete, the final flourish of the celebration is the scream of "si!".

When Ronaldo performs the celebration he often incorporates some of his other familiar celebratory gestures in a medley of smug self confidence.

He might, for example, throw his arms out to his side while running towards the crowd, or point at himself in a way that suggests he, in fact, is the man.

Of course, it would be bad form to just randomly perform the celebration, the first thing you need to is to put the ball in the back of the net!

Which teams are most likely to lift the cup come the end of the campaign? Goal takes a look at the odds

The Europa League is one of UEFA's key club competitions and the fact that it offers a route into the Champions League has boosted its appeal.

While it is not the continent's top-table tournament, the Europa League features plenty of notable clubs and its competitiveness increases when eliminated Champions League teams enter in the knockout stage.

So which teams are considered most likely to win it this season? Goal takes a look at the 2021-22 favourites, contenders and outsiders.

Who are the Europa League 2021-22 favourites?

Leicester City and Napoli are deemed the favourites to win the Europa League from the outset of the competition, with bet365 offering odds of 14/1 on the Group C duo.

Of course, that is liable to change drastically by the time the Champions League cast-offs drop into the tournament, but for now the likely winner is expected to come from the Premier League or Serie A.

The Foxes do not have a storied history in European competition and, while they reached the quarter-final of the Champions League in 2016-17, Brendan Rodgers' side were dumped out of the Europa League at the last-32 stage in 2020-21, losing on that occasion to Slavia Prague.

Napoli, on the other hand, are consistent competitors on the continental stage, with Diego Maradona famously inspiring them to UEFA Cup glory in 1989. It won't be a stroll for either side though, with Spartak Moscow and Legia Warsaw in their group.

West Ham are considered early contenders at odds of 16/1 and David Moyes' side will be positive heading into the competition after finishing sixth in the Premier League last season. Having been drawn in Group H with Dinamo Zagreb, Genk and Rapid Wien, their fans will be hopeful of progression.

Following the Hammers with odds of 20/1 attached are a number of European familiars from Serie A, the Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and La Liga.

Lazio (who finished sixth in Serie A last term) are among that cohort, but Maurizio Sarri has a tough group to navigate through, with Marseille, Galatasaray and Lokomotiv Moscow in the mix. German side Bayer Leverkusen are also rated 20/1, as are La Liga's Real Sociedad and Ligue 1 outfit Lyon.

There is no clear favourite to win the Europa League just yet, but a picture will soon begin to emerge after the group stage.

Who are the outside bets to win Europa League 2021-22?

There is a broad spread of teams that could be considered outside bets to go all the way in the 2021-22 edition of the Europa League.

Chief among those at the outset of the tournament are Eintracht Frankfurt - with bet365 ranking them a 25/1 bet. Interestingly, their odds are longer than those of Bayer Leverkusen, despite the fact that Frankfurt finished ahead of them in last season's Bundesliga.

Real Betis and Monaco are rated 33/1 to win the Europa League with Dutch side PSV coming in at 40/1 to lift UEFA's secondary club trophy.

Steven Gerrard's Rangers are considered 50/1 to win the trophy, which may not be a terrible punt considering the former Liverpool midfielder steered the Scottish champions to the last 16 in 2020-21, though they are in a testing group which contains Lyon, Sparta Prague and Brondby.

The Gers' Group A rivals Sparta Prague are also rated 50/1 to win outright, along with French side Marseille.

Celtic are deemed less likely than their Glasgow rivals to win the Europa League, with odds of 66/1 attached to them. The Bhoys are in a period of transition after missing out on their 10th league title in a row and have been drawn in a very challenging group alongside Real Betis and Bayer Leverkusen - two teams who are considered potential challengers.

AFC Leopards looking for a more competitive Ochan successor - Juma

Ingwe move to calm the nerves of their fans by stating they will sign a new keeper before next season kicks off

AFC Leopards have come out to assure their fans they will delve int the transfer market for the replacement for departed goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan.

The 31-year-old Uganda custodian left the Den following the expiry of his contract and three days ago signed for Ugandan Premier League side KCCA FC on a two-year contract.

His exit has left a huge hole at AFC Leopards ahead of the new campaign as another keeper, John Oyemba, is also set to leave as his contract expired alongside that of Ochan.

It means AFC have Ezekiel Owade as the only keeper in the squad and with the new campaign pencilled in to kick off on September 26, AFC team manager Tom Juma has moved to calm the nerves of their faithful fans by confirming they will get a replacement.

What did Juma say?

“We can’t play without a competitive goalkeeping department and so that may force us to look for other options,” Juma said as quoted by Citizen Online.

“It was his personal decision and that is what football is all about. He made a choice to return to his home country and that is what has happened but the club must continue with life without him.”

The arrival of Ochan at KCCA was confirmed by the club in a statement that said: “Ochan has penned a two years deal as a KCCA player.

“The shot-stopper returns for his third stint at KCCA. The first was in 2008-09, the second in 2015-18, and now the third 2021/23. Ochan has previously worked with KCCA Manager Morley Byekwaso at Victoria University SC in the 2013/14 season and during his second stint as a KCCA player in 2015-18.

“Ochan left KCCA in January 2018 and joined Kabwe Warriors in Zambia. He later joined Kenya’s AFC Leopards on a two-year deal from 2019/21.”

AFC Leopards will be looking for an improved season as they ended last season without a trophy, losing in the final of the FKF Shield Cup against rivals Gor Mahia and finishing fourth on the Premier League table with 48 points from 32 matches.

Nine goals in nine games: Man City star Gundogan is Europe's most in-form player

The retired winger explained what makes Magents a special player after he reached a milestone over the weekend

Orlando Pirates legend Joseph Makhanya believes his former teammate Happy Jele can reach 500 competitive appearances for the Soweto giants.

This comes after Jele became the first player in Pirates history to make 400 appearances for the club as they claimed a 1-0 win over Swallows FC in a PSL match on Saturday.

It took the experienced defender 16 years to break the record for the most appearances (375) for Pirates which was held by legendary Nigerian keeper William Okpara and he has since added to that tally for the club.

Having played alongside Jele at Pirates between 2006 and 2011, Makhanya stated that discipline and dedication have been key to the defender's longevity at the Houghton-based giants.

“The first time I met him, he was a very humble player and he never changed even today,” Makhanya told Sowetan.

“Very disciplined, he never wants to show off. I'm talking about on and off the field, he is dedicated. I got to see him while he was coming and saw him grow at Pirates."

Makhanya, who is the son of Pirates legend Ernest 'Botsotso' Makhanya, lauded 34-year-old Jele as a true gentleman and a professional player.

"I played with him for four or five seasons and I know what type of human being he is. I’m still close to him even now and he is a true gentleman and a professional player," he added.

“He is doing very well. That's what I like about him. He works very hard at training and I don’t see anything stopping him from making more than 500 appearances in the future."

Nicknamed 'Magents', Jele is also among the most decorated Pirates players in the PSL era having won eight major trophies with the team since he joined the club in 2006.

The lanky player was a key member of Bucs' double treble-winning side which clinched two PSL titles, two MTN8 trophies, the Nedbank Cup and Telkom Knockout Cup.

Magents then helped the Buccaneers lift the 2014 Nedbank Cup, before leading the team to the 2020 MTN8 title triumph.

Michael Carrick dedicates Villarreal win to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

The Rockets are yet to win this season and they are now plotting against Masandawana to avoid further sliding down

TS Galaxy coach Owen Da Gama has revealed their plan to contain Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile when the two sides clash in a Premier Soccer League match at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday.

The match comes seven days after Shalulile scored his first goal of the season in the 2-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs last weekend.

Having previously worked with the Namibia international at Highlands Park, Da Gama appreciates the striker’s capabilities.

“Yes, you have to plan for Peter Shalulile. He proved it last season and he single-handedly won games for Sundowns, 1-0, 2-0 single-handedly,” Da Gama told TS Galaxy’s media.

“Sundowns are that type of team, once they score the first goal, it just motivates them so much, it gives them so much encouragement and it is not easy to come back against them. Yes, we understand his qualities.

“Whether we can stop him or not is a different question, but we certainly will give it our best shot. We will work very hard and from a tactical perspective, we will need to get this one right.”

TS Galaxy are yet to win a single league match this season, holding Kaizer Chiefs 0-0 at Mbombela, losing 1-0 to Stellenbosch, before last weekend’s 2-2 draw against Golden Arrows.

Ahead of facing the Brazilians, Da Gama is drawing inspiration from their draw against Amakhosi.

“Yes, certainly it does [Chiefs draw inspiring them]. But sometimes it could be clouded and I mean it in this way that players raise their games when you play against these bigger teams,” added Da Gama.

“But they have to be consistent. They must also raise their game when they play against any other team. That has been a problem at TS Galaxy. You go and play a fantastic game against Chiefs, the opening game of the season, and then you go and play such a bad game against Stellenbosch.

“It’s like an anti-climax. So we have to be very careful of this situation. But certainly, it is much easier to motivate them when they play against Sundowns or any other big team.

"But still, we are trying to get it right to be as consistent as possible. You have to play your best football no matter who you play against.”

Only three teams - Galaxy, AmaZulu and Marumo Gallants - are yet to taste victory so far this season.

USWNT boss Andonovski still counting on Rapinoe despite extended absence from the field

Amakhosi brought in nine players for the 2021/22 season but of the acquisitions, none was an outright striker

Former Kaizer Chiefs player Robson Muchichwa says the Soweto giants could regret their decision not to sign a striker ahead of the current term.

Following the arrival of coach Stuart Baxter, Chiefs signed a goalkeeper, four defenders, two central midfielders and as many wingers.

With Leonardo Castro back in his home country Colombia recovering from surgery, Chiefs only have Samir Nurkovic as a natural striker.

Muchichwa thinks it was a blunder not to sign a central striker to compete against struggling Nurkovic and it is a decision the club might live to rue.

“When we speak of quality, Chiefs are lacking quality because in attack is where you need to see quality players,” Muchichwa told KickOff.

“It’s not that Nurkovic is a bad striker, but we just need one or two strikers as he needs competition.  For me, they've made a mistake by not signing another quality striker to compete with Nurkovic.

“If things don't go well, I think Kaizer Chiefs will regret it. Like now, things are not going well. So they could regret it at the end of the season.”

Nurkovic has been struggling upfront and is yet to score a goal in four competitive games across all competitions this season.

Pressure is mounting on the Serb who is leading an attack which has managed just two goals from  Khama Billiat and one by Bernard Parker.

Chiefs’ fourth goal this season has been scored by centre-back Daniel Cardoso.

The Soweto giants now prepare to host Royal AM in a Premier Soccer League match on Sunday at FNB Stadium.

They go into that encounter smart from a 2-0 league defeat by Mamelodi Sundowns.

It was a match in which their attack was exposed as Nurkovic struggled alone upfront while not clicking with other supporting attackers Billiat and Keagan Dolly.

If Chiefs continue facing the same challenges upfront, it would be interesting to see how Baxter responds in the transfer market when the mid-season window is opened.

The Briton might decide to get a striker from some free agents before the January transfer period.

The Blues top Group C of the Durand Cup 2021 after their tournament opener...

Bengaluru FC made a winning start to their Durand Cup campaign as they defeated Kerala Blasters 2-0 at the Salt Lake stadium in Kolkata, on Wednesday.

Namgyal Bhutia (45') and Leon Augustine (71') were on the scoresheet while RV Hormipam, Sandeep Singh and Denechandra Meitei saw red in the all Indian Super League (ISL) encounter.

After Sivasakthi Narayanan shot straight at Blasters goalkeeper Albino Gomes, it was his opposite number in Lara Sharma to deny VS Sreekuttan on the other side with a fine save at his near post in the 33rd minute. Lara went on to keep out an Adrian Luna free-kick before Bengaluru went ahead just before half-time.

From a foul won by Akashdeep Singh at the edge of the box, Namgyal Bhutia's curling free-kick was out of Gomes' range.

It got worse for Kerala in the second half, with a goal and a man down, as RV Hormipam earned his second booking of the evening for his rash challenge on Sivasakthi minutes post the hour mark. Soon after, from a Harmanpreet Singh cross, Augustine was at hand to double his side's lead.

Sandeep and Denechandra followed their way into the books and off the pitch while Bengaluru enjoyed keeping the ball and the three points.

Bengaluru take on Delhi FC and Indian Navy on September 18 and 21 respectively, with Kerala Blasters' final group game against Delhi on September 21.
