How Man City can replace injured Kevin De Bruyne

The Super Eagles, Black Stars and Bafana Bafana will be without their English based stars for next month’s qualifying matches enroute Qatar 2022

Arsenal’s Thomas Partey, Brighton and Hove Albion’s Percy Tau and Leicester City’s quartet of Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Patson Daka plus Daniel Amartey will play no part in September’s 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifications for Africa.

This is due to the Premier League’s decision on Tuesday not to release players for international engagements in 'red list' countries – where they would have to quarantine on their return to the United Kingdom because of Covid restrictions.

“Premier League clubs have today reluctantly but unanimously decided not to release players for international matches played in red-list countries next month,” a statement on the EPL website read.

“The clubs' decision, which is strongly supported by the Premier League, will apply to nearly 60 players from 19 Premier League clubs who are due to travel to 26 red-list countries in the September international window.

“This follows Fifa’s current position not to extend its temporary release exception for players required to quarantine on their return from international duty.

“Extensive discussions have taken place with both The FA and the Government to find a solution, but due to ongoing public health concerns relating to incoming travellers from red-list countries, no exemption has been granted.”

“If required to quarantine on return from red list countries, not only would players’ welfare and fitness be significantly impacted, but they would also be unavailable to prepare for and play in two Premier League match rounds, a Uefa club competition matchday and the third round of the EFL Cup,” it continued.

“This period takes into consideration 10 days of hotel quarantine on return to England but does not include any additional time that would be required for players to regain match fitness.”

The Super Eagles – who take on Liberia and Cape Verde – are among the worst hit by this verdict, as coach Gernot Rohr will be without the services of at least eight key players.

They include Alex Iwobi (Everton), Ndidi (Leicester City), Iheanacho (Leicester City), Frank Onyeka (Brentford), William Troost-Ekong (Watford), Peter Etebo (Watford), Emmanuel Dennis (Watford), and Semi Ajayi (West Bromwich Albion).

Ghana have less to worry about as coach Charles Akonnor will miss just three players namely: Partey (Arsenal), Amartey (Leicester City) and Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace) for their fixtures versus Ethiopia and South Africa.

Tau will not be available for Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana, while Cote d’Ivoire have Eric Bailly (Manchester United), Willy Boly (Wolves), Amad Diallo (Manchester United), Nicolas Pepe (Arsenal) and Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace) all ruled out.

Nice president accuses Guendouzi of lying about injuries following Marseille brawl

The former Arsenal player showed scratches on his neck after the astonishing scenes on Sunday - but has been accused of false evidence

Marseille midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has been accused of faking injuries by the president of rivals Nice after a mass brawl which saw the Ligue 1 match abandoned at the weekend.

Former Arsenal midfielder Guendouzi was on the pitch when team-mate Dmitiri Payet hurled a bottle which had been thrown at him back into the crowd, sparking a huge fight between players, fans, coaches and officials.

Guendouzi showed bruises and scratches on social media afterwards which he claims were sustained during the ugly scenes - however Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere has accused him of being a liar.

What has been said?

"Apart from the photo that is everywhere, there has been no violence against OM players," Rivere told L'Equipe. "By the way, Guendouzi, with pictures to prove it, has no marks on his neck when he is on the pitch."

However Marseille's director of communications Jacques Cardoze hit back, saying: "There are cuts, we had an independent doctor in Marseille. There will be medical certificates. These are elements that will allow the investigation of the league and the disciplinary committee to be carried out."

What happened?

Supporters at Allianz Riviera had been throwing objects at Marseille players throughout the match, and Payet threw a bottle back into the crowd in the 74th minute after being struck as he prepared to take a corner kick.

Soon after, fans invaded the pitch, pushing over a billboard to access the field in order to battle with the Marseille players.

Nice led 1-0 at the time of the incident, but were awarded a 3-0 victory after Marseille players left the pitch and refused to return following the violence - however Rivere accused Marseille players of instigating the ugly fight.

"What catalysed things was the reaction of two Marseille players (Alvaro Gonzalez and Guendouzi) who met the fans," Rivere told RMC.

"It is disappointing that it ends like this. Things are quite clear. Marseille's security should not have come onto the pitch and hit our players. I don’t really understand why Marseille didn’t restart.”

Sources: Arsenal to sign Soares permanently

The Partenopei have disclosed that they will appeal the punishment imposed on the Nigerian striker following his dismissal against Venezia

Napoli have announced that they will appeal the two-game ban meted out to Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen following his dismissal during the Partenopei's 2-0 victory over Venezia on Sunday.

The forward was given the marching orders in the 22nd minute by referee Gianluca Aureliano for violent conduct against Daan Heymans after appearing to strike the opposition during a corner.

The was the first time ever that the former Wolfsburg and Lille man has been sent off in a league encounter during his professional career.

Notwithstanding the numerical disadvantage, Luciano Spalletti’s men stepped up their game to secure all points at stake thanks to goals from captain Lorenzo Insigne and Elif Elmas.

Consequently, Osimhen will miss his club’s next two Italian elite division matches against Genoa and Juventus, on August 29 and September 11 respectively.

A statement released by Napoli on its official website read: “Victor Osimhen has been handed a two-match ban following his red card against Venezia.

“The striker was sanctioned "for voluntarily slapping an opponent in the face away from the ball".

“The club will make an appeal. Luciano Spalletti was booked during the match.”

After the incident, manager Spalletti cautioned the 24-year-old striker to watch his responses in future matches.

"The expulsion of Osimhen? He has to be careful of his emotional reactions," Spalletti said as quoted by Ilnapolista. "He is a strong attacker and all defenders will help each other. He will always have his hands on the defenders. He must be careful. The referee was corrected when I went to talk to him and he explained what he saw.

"Insigne confirmed that he was a true leader because he came out in a difficult moment. He had the misfortune to miss a penalty and showed up to take the second. He made the public participate and when the fans entered the field, the ball travelled more.

"In the second half, even when outnumbered, we figured out what to do and I liked it a lot."

Osimhen was issued a red card for the time in his professional career during a Uefa Europa League clash against Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena on October 29, 2020.

West Ham lead Keane Lewis-Potter chase; Brentford and Watford bids rejected

The Black Stars are set to do without some first team players for their upcoming back-to-back games against Ethiopia and South Africa

Premier League clubs have decided against releasing players for September's round of World Cup qualifiers which are due to take place in Covid-19 red-listed countries, ruling Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew, Leicester City centre-back Daniel Amartey and Brentford winger Tariqe Fosu out of Ghana's showdown away against South Africa.

According to a statement by the FA, nearly 60 players from 19 clubs have been affected by the decision.

South Africa, who are on the UK's coronavirus red list, are set to host Ghana for a Group G matchday two fixture in Johannesburg on September 6.

"Premier League clubs have today reluctantly but unanimously decided not to release players for international matches played in red-list countries next month," the FA announced on their official website on Tuesday.

"The clubs' decision, which is strongly supported by the Premier League, will apply to nearly 60 players from 19 Premier League clubs who are due to travel to 26 red-list countries in the September international window.

"This follows Fifa’s current position not to extend its temporary release exception for players required to quarantine on their return from international duty.

"Extensive discussions have taken place with both The FA and the Government to find a solution, but due to ongoing public health concerns relating to incoming travellers from red-list countries, no exemption has been granted."

Ghana are set to open their World Cup qualifiers with a home clash with Ethiopia on September 3 before making the trip to South Africa.

Earlier this month, Black Stars coach CK Akonnor unveiled a provisional list of 30 players for the uncoming double-header, the roster including Ayew, Amartey and Fosu.

Although the trio are now confirmed out of the South Africa decider, they are still expected to join Ghana’s squad for the Ethiopia opener three days earlier.

“If required to quarantine on return from red list countries, not only would players’ welfare and fitness be significantly impacted, but they would also be unavailable to prepare for and play in two Premier League match rounds, a Uefa club competition matchday and the third round of the EFL Cup,” the FA statement further explained.

“This period takes into consideration 10 days of hotel quarantine on return to England but does not include any additional time that would be required for players to regain match fitness.”

It is, however, uncertain whether Chelsea defender Abdul Rahman Baba will also miss the South Africa trip, having been snubbed by the club in their list of registered players for the season, and all but confirmed for a transfer away.

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Teye Partey was also named in Ghana’s squad, but an ankle injury has almost certainly confirmed him out of September’s round of international assignments anyway.

Mikel Arteta Hints at Permanent Deal for Dani Ceballos After Impressive Leicester Performance

The league said that FIFA's refusal to waive the mandatory UK quarantine period played a role in their decision

The Premier League has announced it will not release players for international matches played in "red-list" countries next month.

Under current UK government rules, anyone travelling to a country on the red list is required to quarantine for 10 days upon their return, due to high coronavirus spread in those countries.

FIFA has refused to allow players an exemption to this quarantine, causing the Premier League to announce it has "reluctantly but unanimously decided not to release players" for the upcoming international break.

What was said?

"Premier League clubs have today reluctantly but unanimously decided not to release players for international matches played in red-list countries next month," a league statement said.

"If required to quarantine on return from red list countries, not only would players’ welfare and fitness be significantly impacted, but they would also be unavailable to prepare for and play in two Premier League match rounds, a UEFA club competition matchday and the third round of the EFL Cup."

Premier League CEO Richard Masters added: “Premier League clubs have always supported their players’ desires to represent their countries – this is a matter of pride for all concerned. However, clubs have reluctantly but rightly come to the conclusion that it would be entirely unreasonable to release players under these new circumstances."

Which countries are currently on the red list?

According to the UK government the red list is currently comprised of the following countries, mostly located in Asia, Africa and South America.

Afghanistan, Angola, Argentina, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Burundi, Cape Verde, Chile, Colombia, Congo (Democratic Republic), Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, French Guiana, Georgia, Guyana, Haiti, Indonesia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Maldives, Mayotte, Mexico, Mongolia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Reunion, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Suriname, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, Uruguay, Venezuela, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

When is the international break?

The next international break, featuring World Cup qualifiers for CONCACAF, UEFA and CONMEBOL, is set to run between August 30 and September 8.

Real Madrid make opening bid for Mbappe as PSG forward turns down six contract renewal offers

The World Cup winner's deal in Paris expires next summer, and the Spanish giants feel they can force a sale this month

Real Madrid have submitted their opening offer to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain, Goal can confirm.

The Spanish giants are optimistic about getting a deal done before the transfer window closes next week, as they feel Mbappe will not sign a new contract in Paris with his current deal expiring at the end of this season.

While Madrid have been hit hard financially by the coronavirus pandemic, they feel they are in a position to force PSG into selling one of the best footballers in the world.

What is the progress of negotiations?

Madrid view this as the most important transfer in their recent history, with president Florentino Perez personally involved in talks. PSG and Madrid have a good relationship and talks have been carried out quietly and cordially.

The biggest force trying to push the deal to be done is Mbappe, who is desperate to play for Madrid. Goal understands he has turned down no fewer than six contract renewal offers from PSG, and that Madrid agreeing personal terms with him will not be a problem.

The issue is whether the clubs can agree on a fee - and with Mbappe's contract expiring in 2022, meaning he could speak to Madrid about a free transfer from January 1, the onus seems to be on PSG to get a good price.

Goal has previously reported that Real will wait until next summer before swooping for his signature if a deal cannot be arranged before the end of the current transfer window - but with Mbappe so keen on a move, it seems the deal could happen sooner rather than later.

Mbappe at PSG

It appeared the Ligue 1 giants had formed the most ferocious front three of all time after signing Lionel Messi from Barcelona this summer, alongside Neymar and Mbappe - but with the Argentine yet to make his debut, it looks as if the trio may never in fact play on the same pitch together.

Mbappe has started all three of their Ligue 1 games so far and netted his first goal as they beat Brest 4-2 on Friday, adding to the two assists he registered in the previous matches, but it remains to be seen whether he will be involved in their next game at Reims on Saturday.

What has been said?

Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti previously said he does not know if the Spanish giants will land the 22-year-old and is satisfied with his current selection.

“I don't know if he will arrive,” he said at a recent press conference when asked about his side’s interest in Mbappe. “I don't care what will happen. I have a very good and very strong squad. They give me a lot of happiness. I am focused on that.

“Let's wait these 10 days and now I am focused on the team that I have.”

PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino meanwhile said before the Brest game that he still expects to have Mbappe at his disposal this campaign.

He said: "Kylian, I see him being very well. He's working really hard to be ready this season. And I see him staying with us this season. We also know that during these periods, a lot of things are said. Some things happen, others don't. I see Kylian working well, he's got his head in tomorrow's game. He is focused."

De Gea has 12 months to save Man United career as Henderson waits

The Mali star dominated the encounter at the Amex, while the Nigerian was handicapped by his head coach’s passive approach

The uniqueness of the sport is somewhat typified by the analogous game plans and trends throughout 90 minutes.

At times, you spot the tactical developments in the opening minutes while some matches take longer to get going for varying reasons.

Brighton & Hove Albion's 2-0 success over Watford in gameweek two of the Premier League falls into the former category, without a shadow of a doubt.

Inside the first five minutes, it was easy to tell how both sides were going to approach proceedings. With Graham Potter’s men, it was obvious the hosts would play on the front foot, looking to control possession and dominate the game in front of a raucous crowd.

On the other hand, Xisco Munoz’s men appeared content to sit off their hosts, seemingly reluctant to engage in the Seagulls’ half. The Hornets’ shape was clearly a 4-1-4-1, which morphed into a 4-5-1 for the majority of the opening half when they didn’t have possession.

Two African performances distinguished the head coach’s approaches at the Amex, with Yves Bissouma producing another stellar performance in the middle of the park to, again, question why none of the top sides have made a move for the Mali superstar this summer.

Conversely, Oghenekaro Etebo couldn’t get on the ball in his holding midfield role. Known for his box-to-box tendencies, the continued decision to play the Nigeria man at the base of the midfield against Aston Villa and Brighton certainly befuddles.

Having also been deployed in that role during pre-season, Xisco’s plan for the season is obviously to utilise the Stoke City loanee as a holding midfielder. Maybe it’s too soon to criticise the decision, but initial reservations aren’t out of place owing to the Super Eagle’s profile.

The Watford boss had spoken pre-match about the need to play with the same ambition they showed against Villa and pressed on attempting to try to replicate performances at Vicarage Road in away matches.

Xisco also commended Etebo’s Premier League debut, notably praising the on-loan midfielder’s work ethic and commitment.

“He played very well,” Munoz stated pre-match. “He was the balance, he was always in a very good position, always gave a very good chance for recovery and helped the other players. He was very good because he understood perfectly what we need to give more in front.

“His game was very clever. He didn’t have a lot of time with the ball, but he was excellent, it was what we wanted from him. He gave the team 100 per cent with full power in attack and defence.”

However, against Brighton, the Nigerian was restrained while Bissouma played assertively in and out of possession. Etebo was largely uninvolved in the build-up phase and rarely showed for the man with the ball, seemingly avoiding receiving the ball under pressure, turn and then carry the ball into midfield.

It’s no surprise he played only two progressive passes in the tea-time fixture, two fewer than the Seagull who played four. Interestingly, the Stoke loanee made no progressive carries for the entirely of the match. Bissouma made four.

The greatest example of the Brighton player’s confidence under pressure came in the 52nd minute.

After receiving the ball in his defensive third from Shane Duffy with Etebo closing in and Tom Cleverly looking to double-team on the Malian, the Albion man escaped with two touches: a flick to wrong-foot the Nigerian and, the second, a forward pass into midfield to release Alexis Mac Allister who was in acres of space.

That move ended with Aaron Connolly missing a gilt-edged chance to make it 3-0, and those few seconds exposed flaws in Xisco’s modus operandi.

Despite having five players in the home side’s third as the move developed, their press was half-hearted at best and non-existent at worst, allowing Duffy the freedom to pick out his assured teammate with ease.

They sought to press high but with little coherence. The defence line staying deep left a gaping hole in the middle after Etebo tardily engaged Bissouma, leaving Xisco’s team wide open.

Contrast that incident minutes after the break to how Brighton’s second goal came about four minutes before half-time.

Immediately William Troost-Ekong receives the ball from Daniel Bachmann in the Watford goal and Bissouma senses the out-of-options centre-back is about to play a reluctant pass to Cleverly, he harries the former Manchester United midfielder and duly intercepts, thus setting up Neal Maupay for his second of the season.

Noticeably, this could have been avoided if Etebo was confident enough to drop deeper and receive a pass under pressure. Predominantly, though, this exposed imperfections in the Hornets organisation and know-how against a well-organised team.

Brighton were more competent in their press — notably winning possession 39 percent of the time within five seconds of engaging the Watford player with the ball — while Xisco’s men struggled (27.5 percent success rate).

After only two games, Potter’s men currently rank third in the Premier League behind Everton and Brentford for the percentage of successful pressures, highlighting how Saturday’s showing was no fluke. In 2020/21, only Manchester City and Leicester City ranked higher, further emphasising the impressive work done by the 46-year-old English tactician.

Xisco may have lauded his team’s response after the interlude — and they were a well-timed Emmanuel Dennis run away from halving the deficit (the centre-forward was flagged offside) — but Brighton were worthy winners at the Amex.

In a sense, Bissouma and Etebo respectively characterised the superior integration of one team vis-a-vis another’s mish-mash approach.

Demba Ba Accuses PSG Manager Thomas Tuchel of 'Blaming' Istanbul Basaksehir Players Following Racism Row

The 30-year-old looks set to miss Wales' World Cup qualifiers in early September after picking up a knock in the opening Serie A game of 2021-22

Juventus have announced midfielder Aaron Ramsey is out indefinitely after suffering a thigh muscle injury against Udinese at the weekend.

Ramsey started Sunday's Serie A opener against Udinese, playing 59 minutes of a 2-2 draw at the Dacia Arena.

The Wales international was injured in the process and appears set to miss several weeks of action.

What was said?

In a statement on their website, Juventus said: "Due to a muscular problem reported at the end of the match played against Udinese, Aaron Ramsey underwent diagnostic tests at J|Medical this morning, which revealed a low-grade injury to the adductor major muscle of the right thigh. In 10 days he will undergo new exams in order to precisely define the recovery time."

Ramsey likely to miss Wales duty

The injury means Ramsey will almost certainly be out for Wales when they continue World Cup qualifying next month.

Wales are set to face Finland in a friendly on September 1, with World Cup qualifiers to follow against Belarus on September 5 and Estonia on September 8.

Ramsey's transfer prospects dim

Ramsey's injury also means his chances of leaving Turin in this transfer window have greatly diminished. Earlier this month, Goal reported that Newcastle approached Juventus over a move for the former Arsenal star.

Ramsey has suffered through numerous injury issues since joining Juve on a free transfer from Arsenal in 2019.

In two-plus seasons, Ramsey has made 66 appearances for the Bianconeri, scoring six goals and providing six assists.

The midfielder has a contract with Juve through to 2023.

You may have noticed that the Reds manager is now without his trademark square spectacles, and here's what you need to know about why they're gone

The sight of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and his signature "hipster" glasses has been a familiar one for years, with the German's choice of spectacles adding to his aura of likeable coolness.

However, fans were given quite a shock over the summer when they noticed their coach had started to forego his glasses, leaving many to wonder if he had got eye surgery or if it was just a fashion choice.

Goal has what you need to know about why Klopp no longer wears glasses, and if they could return in the near future.

Why isn't Klopp wearing glasses anymore?

In an interview with BILD, Klopp confirmed that he underwent successful eye treatment over the summer - and that it could be the end of his trademark glasses.

"It's actually totally private, but I can explain it to you once too. I've been wearing glasses since I was 10 years old - that's 44 years," the German told BILD.

"The problem in recent years was that the glasses could no longer correct my poor eyesight. The solution to this was a minor intervention. It wasn't lasering or anything, but it made me see very well without glasses at the moment."

The Liverpool coach did however admit that it will take time to get used to a glasses-free look.

"I think my face is weird without glasses, but I don't need them anymore. I may need one more. When that happens, I'll wear glasses again," he said.

Fans were left surprised during Liverpool's pre-season games over the summer, when they spotted the manager bare-faced and without his signature specs.

At the time, a source told the Daily Mirror: “He’s had a bit of treatment on his eyes which went really well. It means he doesn’t need to wear his glasses all the time but he still may wear them occasionally in the dugout.”

Did Klopp get Lasik surgery?

Klopp stated that he didn't get Lasik surgery but instead underwent a smaller proceedure, since he suggested that he might need another "correction". With Lasik, it is a permanent correctional operation - no further surgeries are needed.

Should he need another small surgery to correct his eyesight, we might be treated to a return of the glasses.

How have Liverpool fans reacted to Klopp not wearing glasses?

Many Liverpool fans were left seemingly distraught that their beloved manager would no longer be sporting his iconic glasses, but some did notice the connection between Liverpool's two opening victories in the Premier League and Klopp's new look.

Madrid, Barca, Spurs among clubs with 2023-24's worst warmup kits

The result means both clubs have four points from two games - the Chilli Boys beat Sekhukhune on the weekend while Downs accounted for AmaZulu

Gavin Hunt’s Chippa United side put in a superb workmanlike display in holding Mamelodi Sundowns to a goal-less draw at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Having only managed five league goals against Sundowns over the past decade, it was no surprise to see the home side happy to sit back and contain the defending league champions in the first half.

And they did it to good affect - despite having 66% of ball possession in the opening stanza, the Brazilians failed to register any chances on goal as Chippa keeper Ismail Watenga remained a virtual spectator, not even having to deal with crosses or balls into the box.

It was the same at the other end of the park as Downs keeper Denis Onyango was left kicking his heels in a first half in which the Chilli Boys also failed to have any chances on goal.

Certainly the injured Themba Zwane, usually so full of ideas and with the ability to make things happen, was missed by the Tshwane side.

Following the restart, it took just two minutes for the visiting team to get their first effort on goal as Peter Shalulile rose well to meet Mothobi Mvala's cross, but his header was straight at Watenga.

There was another opportunity for Masandawana in the 53rd minute when Chippa failed to clear their box from a free kick and the ball fell to Neo Maema, but he lacked composure with a half-volley which flew well over.

Needing more inspiration, Downs made a triple change with some serious quality coming off the bench on the hour mark as Gaston Sirino, Kermit Erasmus and Thapelo Morena entered the fray at the expense of Maema, Aubrey Modiba and Khuliso Mudau (the latter had been injured).

A combination of the new men and some added intensity saw the Brazilians putting the home side under increasing pressure, although Watenga was not overly tested, his next save coming in the 78th minute when he comfortably held onto a Sirino shot from outside the box.

In the end, Chippa were able to make it through five minutes of referee's added time without any issue, deservingly claiming the point.

Ghana defender Samuel Inkoom has spoken about a return to Asante Kotoko stating that he will not retire before playing for them again

Ghana international Samuel Inkoom has revealed he turned down an opportunity to return to Asante Kotoko last season, but states there's still a chance he could play in the GPL again.

The right-back, who represented the Black Stars at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, featured for the Porcupine Warriors in the 2008-09 season before leaving for Basel in Switzerland.

Currently, he is on the books of Georgian team Torpedo Kutaisi.

“It’s true Kotoko wanted to sign me last season, they sent me first offer, I said ‘no’, they sent second and third offer, I said ‘no’. We were talking but later on I saw that the money is not there,” Inkoom told Angel TV.

“I told them Kotoko gave me the platform and I am ready to come and help. So, when [Kotoko chief executive officer] Nana Yaw Amponsah approached me, we spoke a lot about my coming back and I didn’t say no because I was willing to come back.

“I’m a fan of Kotoko and before I will even retire from football, I will come and play for Kotoko even for nothing I don’t mind.”

Despite excelling at Kotoko, Inkoom is more famously remembered for his exploits at international level where he first helped Ghana win the Africa U20 Cup of Nations tournament in 2009.

Two months after the continental gathering, the right-back left Kotoko for Basel, signing a three-year contract.

Later in the year, he joined the Black Satellites for Fifa U20 World Cup in Egypt where they edged Brazil on penalties in the final.

The 2009 success heralded another year of success for the right-back as he was drafted into Ghana’s senior squad for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Angola. At the championship, the Black Stars went all the way to the final where they lost to Egypt.

Inkoom did enough in Angola to cement a place in the Black Stars as he was picked for the team that went to the World Cup in South Africa and reached the quarter-final.

At club level, he has moved on to play for Dnipro in Ukraine, Bastia (France), Platanias (Greece), DC United (USA), Boavista (Portugal), Antalyaspor (Turkey), Vereya (Bulgaria), Dunav Ruse (Bulgaria) and Samtredia (Georgia).

France predicted lineup vs Republic of Ireland - Euro 2024 qualifier

Dlamini was one of the Buccaneers' better players in the first-half, but the attacker could not find the back of the net at Peter Mokaba Stadium

Orlando Pirates extended their winless run to three matches in the 2021/22 season after drawing 0-0 with Marumo Gallants in the PSL match on Tuesday evening.

Coach Sebastien Migne adopted a cautious approach with Junior Dion leading the attack as a lone striker with Gallants hoping to secure their first-ever win in the top-flight league.

On the other hand, co-coaches Fadlu Davids and Mandla Ncikazi recalled Vincent Pule and Nkanyiso Zungu to the starting line-up as Pirates looked to record their maiden win of the current term.

Pirates started the match brightly with most of their attacks coming from the left flank where Pule and Frank Mhango were operating for the Soweto giants.

Goodman Mosele played a long ball for Mhango, who cut inside from the left and forced goalkeeper Washington Arubi into a fine low save as the Buccaneers searched for an early goal.

Mosele, who had been named Man of the Match after Bucs' 2-2 draw with Stellenbosch FC on Saturday, was a busy man in the middle of the park - spreading some nice forward passes and one of them found Kabelo Dlamini, whose shot went narrowly wide of the target.

Most of Gallants' attacks were coming from the flanks with keeper Richard Ofori forced to come out and punch two dangerous crosses from wingers Mpho Mvelase and Thabo Mnyamane.

With Bahlabane Ba Ntwa's defence looking solid and compact, Mosele looked to play balls in behind the hosts' backline, but they were either cleared away or Bucs attackers were ruled offside and the score was 0-0 at half-time.

Pirates saw most of the ball after the restart with Zungu pulling the trigger from range and his rasping shot went inches wide of the upright, before Arubi punched away Deon Hotto's curling free-kick.

The hosts were awarded a corner-kick following a rare attack by Migne's men and an unmarked Collin Ngema hit the upright from the blind spot with Bucs' poor marking being exposed.

The introduction of Tebogo Tlolane reignited the visitors' confidence in the final third which saw Kabelo Dlamini played a through pass for Hotto, but he was superbly denied by Arubi, who was keen to keep a clean sheet after conceding twice in Gallants' 2-0 loss to Baroka FC on Saturday.

This served as a wake-up call for Gallants' defence as the hosts stood firm at the back in the closing proceedings of the match with Lehlohonolo Nonyane and Ayanda Nkili making some important clearances and interceptions in the box.

Ultimately, the first-ever meeting between Gallants and Pirates ended in a 0-0 draw on the night

The defender, along with several medical personnel, have been honoured for their efforts in a harrowing situation at the summer tournament

Simon Kjaer and several medical officials have been given the 2021 UEFA President’s Award for their efforts in saving Christian Eriksen's life.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest in Denmark's opening game of Euro 2020 against Finland, with Kjaer and the stadium's medical staff reacting quickly to help resuscitate him on the pitch.

Kjaer helped begin CPR on the field, with Denmark's medical team joining the on-site staff to perform more and use a defibrillator to revive the 29-year-old.

What was said?

In a statement on UEFA's website, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin described the recipients of the award as "the true heroes of Euro 2020. It is indeed a great honour for me to present them with the UEFA President's Award.

"This year, the President’s Award transcends football. It serves as an important and eternal reminder of just how precious life is and puts everything in our lives into the clearest perspective. I would also like to send my very best wishes to Christian Eriksen and his family as he continues his recovery."

Eriksen added: "I would like to thank Morten [Skjoldager], Morten [Boesen] and the medical team who helped in Parken on June 12. You did a fantastic job and saved my life.

"Also a big thanks to my friend and captain Simon and my team-mates in the Danish team for your support, both on June 12 and afterwards. Thanks to all the fans who have sent messages to me and my family. It means a lot and has given us strength and support. Thank you."

Everton announce signing of Sweden wonderkid and 2021 NXGN winner Bennison

The 18-year-old won silver at the 2020 Olympic Games and has previously been linked with Lyon, seven-time winners of the UEFA Women's Champions League

Everton have announced the signing of teenage midfielder Hanna Bennison, who signs a four-year deal after arriving from FC Rosengard for a six-figure fee.

The 18-year-old is renowned as one of the best young players in the world, named Goal's 2021 NXGN winner earlier this year, and arrives in England fresh off the back of winning a silver medal with Sweden at this summer's Olympic Games.

She is the ninth summer signing that Everton have made as the Toffees look to build on last season's Women's FA Cup final and push into the top three of the Women's Super League, which would see them take a UEFA Women's Champions League spot from either Chelsea, Manchester City or Arsenal.

What has been said?

Speaking upon the announcement of her signing, Bennison said: “It feels amazing to be here. I’m still young, I need to learn a lot, and I think this is the perfect environment for me to grow.

“I like the league in England and we have a very good manager in Willie Kirk. I’ve spoken to him, and the way sees my game is the way see myself.

"I think Everton has something big happening. We have a really good squad with a lot of good players. I know the club wants to play in the Champions League. That’s one of my goals, too, and I hope I can help the team reach that.”

Kirk added: "Hanna was highly sought after and there was a lot of competition for her signature. I'm delighted the club has backed my judgement, making sure we were in as strong a position as possible to be successful in her acquisition.

“She'll play a big part for us, not just this season, but in the long-term. She's at a fantastic level but there is still so much more to come, considering she's only 18."

How good can Bennison be?

Bennison came to prominence two years ago when she started 16 of Rosengard's 22 Damallsvenskan games, helping them win the Swedish title for the first time in four years.

Her progression into the first team came as a result of the strong impression she made on head coach Jonas Eidevall, who this summer moved to Arsenal, with her determination as well as her skillset.

Earlier this year, he told Goal that Bennison "has the potential to be the best player in the world".

With a senior international debut also earned in 2019, the teenage midfielder was soon linked with Lyon, the seven-time European champions.

According to reports from the Telegraph, there were clubs in the United States' NWSL that enquired for Bennison this summer too, with her decision to move to Everton to be a huge boost for the club.

As well as her current ability already being outstanding, the midfielder's potential is huge. A move to a club like Everton, renowned for developing young players and in a better position to offer game time than a powerhouse like Lyon, will only aid her development.

What other business have Everton done?

Bennison is not only Everton's ninth signing this transfer window, as they target that top three finish, but she is also the third Swede to arrive at the club.

Forward Anna Anvegard and defender Nathalie Bjorn have also moved to Merseyside, both also from Rosengard and both with silver medals from their summer exploits too.

England international Toni Duggan has been the headline signing, returning to her childhood club after leaving Atletico Madrid, while Kenza Dali, from West Ham, and Aurora Galli, from Juventus, have further bolstered Kirk's midfield options.

Full-back Leonie Maier and Courtney Brosnan are the club's other arrivals, the latter arriving to provide competition for first-choice goalkeeper Sandy MacIver, following the departure of Tinja-Riikka Korpela to Tottenham. Teenage shot-stopper Cecilia Ran Runarsdottir has also signed, but won't join until January due to Brexit rules as revealed by Goal last month.

Korpela is one of 11 players to have departed, the most notable being Australian winger Hayley Raso, who signed for Manchester City earlier this month.

Rupia: AFC Leopards striker challenges teammates to give their best and secure promised houses

The 69-year-old Bafana Bafana tactician appeared to confirm the Brighton player's move to Al Ahly in a TV interview

Hugo Broos has lifted the lid on the next destination for South Africa forward Percy Tau by claiming he will leave Brighton & Hove Albion for Al Ahly.

The 27-year-old has been a transfer target for the Egyptian giants and his absence from the Brighton squad in the last two Premier League matches has fuelled reports he was headed to Egypt.

The Bafana Bafana tactician has now confirmed the former Mamelodi Sundowns player will soon reunite with Pitso Mosimane at the African champions.

What did Broos say?

“He is an important player for Bafana Bafana,” Broos said on SABC Sport as quoted by idiskitimes. “But again, if Percy does not play in the next months, I have a problem.

“But I heard some good news, I think he will not stay in Brighton and he will go to the Egyptian team with the South African coach Pitso, Al Ahly.

“I think in the next days it will be done and then he will have a chance to play, so there will be a problem less for the future.”

Khanye does not want Tau to leave Brighton

In a recent interview, former Bafana Bafana player Junior Khanye revealed the reason he did not want Tau to leave Brighton for Al Ahly.

“If Percy leaves England for Egypt, it would be a huge step back in his career,” Khanye said. “I understand that Al Ahly have won the Caf Champions League two times in a row, and they are going to play at the Club World Cup later this year, however, you cannot compare the EPL with the Egyptian League.

“Percy worked extremely hard to be where he is today. Not every player has the ability to earn himself a move to England.

“Tau, through his hard work, has managed to do what many players from our country have failed to do; which is to play in the best league in the world.”

Tau has missed Brighton’s two opening matches against Burnley which they won 2-1 and the 2-0 victory against Watford.
