'Do I have to answer that?' - Newcastle boss Bruce furious over holiday question after Man Utd defeat

The Magpies boss insists his side's preparation for the clash at Old Trafford was "meticulous" despite the international break

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce reacted angrily after being asked if he went on holiday ahead of his team's 4-1 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday.

Some Newcastle fans voiced their anger at Bruce's management of the team during the defeat at Old Trafford as his side continue to disappoint.

The Magpies are still without a win in the Premier League this season and have collected just one point from four matches.

What has been said?

But Bruce insisted their preparations for the match against United were up to scratch as he was asked if he had gone on holiday while some players were away on international duty.

"Do I really have to answer that to you? That’s what the fans are asking are they?" Bruce said at a press conference.

"We trained all week, we were in every day this week.

"The preparation was meticulous, let me tell you. There is nothing more [that could have been done] in preparation.

"What was I supposed to do when I had six of them away [on international duty].

"The preparation was fine. Absolutely fine. We have been in all week. You could see the game plan what we worked to.

"To answer questions like that is typical to the question I would get off you and your newspaper (the Chronicle) if I am being brutally honest.

"That is why [Newcastle fans] are the way they are, the way you are and your negativity constantly in your newspaper."

What position are Newcastle in?

Bruce's side are currently second bottom of the Premier League after four weeks.

Newcastle are in action again next Friday when they take on Leeds at home followed by a trip to Watford a week later.
