LIVE: Atalanta vs Inter

18' Freuler's cross from the right almost catches out Handanovic who has to scramble back and tip away.

16' The delivery causes problems as the ball is allowed to bounce. It's semi-cleared before Atalanta get it back into the box and Hateboer gets a header on target from the back post.

15' Gomez is caught in the face by the arm of de Vrij. It's accidental but it'll be a free-kick for Atalanta.

13' Barella, who has registered four assists already this campaign, is at the heart of everything Inter do. He starts another attack which ends up in Martinez having a speculative effort from distance, but it doesn't trouble Sportiello in goal.

11' Zapata is holding the ball up well any time it's fed into him but the home side haven't been able to find any cutting edge in the final third yet.

10' Conditions are perfect here and the early action is reflective of that. The game is being played at a high intensity.

8' Darmian does brilliantly to latch onto a ball down the right and get a first-time cross into the box. It's heading for Martinez but Romero times his covering challenge perfectly and stifles the chance.

7' Romero steps over it and leaves it for Gomez to strike, but the wall does its job, blocking the low shot before Inter recover the loose ball.

6' Darmian concedes a free-kick right on the edge of the box for a challenge on Zapata. This will be the first big chance of the game.

5' Barella, Vidal and Martinez link up nicely before trying to find Sanchez. The pass is misplaced but that was promising.

3' Vidal is penalised for a foul on Malinovskiy. It's not a card but a chance for the home side to get the ball into the box from a free-kick.

2' A long ball finds Martinez for Inter but Romero shows his strength early and ushers the ball out of play.

1' Referee Daniele Doveri blows his whistle and Atalanta get us underway in Bergamo.

The two sides are out. It's nearly time for kick-off!

Atalanta have won one of their last seven Serie A games against Inter (4-1 in November 2018) and haven’t found the back of the net in four of the last six.

Antonio Conte has also made three changes to the team he sent out in the Champions League. Milan Skriniar replaces Danilo D’Ambrosio on the right side of a back three, and Achraf Hakimi drops to the bench with Matteo Darmian slotting in. And it’s a return to the starting XI for Alexis Sanchez who starts up front with Lautaro Martinez. Romelu Lukaku is back on the bench after a niggling thigh injury.

Three changes for Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta. Marco Sportiello continues in goal and Cristian Romero replaces the injured Jose Luis Palomino in defence. Matteo Ruggeri is preferred ahead of Johan Mojica on the left side of midfield, while Luis Muriel drops to the bench with the coach opting to play Duvan Zapata as the solo striker.

INTER SUBS: Filip Stankovic, Ionut Radu, Danilo D’Ambrosio, Achraf Hakimi, Radja Nainggolan, Roberto Gagliardini, Christian Eriksen, Lorenzo Moretti, Ivan Perisic, Andrea Pinamonti, Romelu Lukaku.

INTER (3-5-2): Samir Handanovic; Milan Skriniar, Stefan De Vrij, Alessandro Bastoni; Matteo Darmian, Marcelo Brozovic, Arturo Vidal, Ashley Young, Nicolo Barella; Alexis Sanchez, Lautaro Martinez.

ATALANTA SUBS: Francesco Rossi, Pierluigi Gollini, Fabio Depaoli, Giorgio Scalvani, Matteo Pessina, Aleksey Miranchuk, Sam Lammers, Johan Mojica, Luis Muriel, Bosko Sutalo, Amad Diallo Traore, Josip Ilicic.

ATALANTA (3-4-2-1): Marco Sportiello; Rafael Toloi, Cristian Romero, Berat Djimsiti; Hans Hateboer, Remo Freuler, Mario Pasalic, Matteo Ruggeri; Alejandro Gomez, Ruslan Malinovskiy; Duvan Zapata.

Atalanta snapped a two-game losing streak the last time they were in league action but followed that up with a crushing five-goal loss to Liverpool in the Champions League last time out. The hosts haven’t kept a clean sheet their last nine Serie A outings and their opponents haven’t fared much better. Inter have won just one of their last seven and have shipped 15 goals in all competitions this season – their worst tally to this point since 2011-12.

Just one point separates the two sides and, with neither in particularly good form, this represents a big game even at this early stage of the season. A win for either will keep them in touch with league leaders AC Milan, as well as secure bragging right over their near neighbours.
