LIVE: Newcastle vs Tottenham

78' Hjobjerg smashes a wild volley over from 30 yards.

76' Tottenham are looking relatively comfortable currently, but Newcastle have still created a few huge opportunities in this half.

74' Chance for Kane! Ndombele picks out the run of Kane inside the box, but the striker can't quite get it under control and Dubravka rushes out to block his eventual shot away!

72' Kane curls another promising free-kick into the wall.

71' Huge miss from Joelinton! Krafth's deep cross finds its way to an unmarked Joelinton at the back post, and the attacker takes a touch before planting a side-foot finish inches wide from five yards!

69' Ndombele picks out the run of Reguilon inside the box, but Lascelles hacks the defender's cut back to safety.

67' Chance for Tottenham! Reguilon's inviting cross is headed behind by Almiron at the back post, presenting the visitors with a corner. Lo Celso's resulting set-piece is punched upwards by Dubravka, allowing Tanganga to head it over the goalkeeper only for Almiron to nod it off the line!

62' Huge chance for Joelinton! Gayle volleys Shelvey's corner back across goal towards the back post, where Joelinton pokes wide from a yard out at an angle! It was a glaring miss from the attacker, but even if he'd scored it would have needed to pass a close offside call.

59' Kane angles a clipped pass over the top of the defence towards Son, but it's too powerful and drifts away for a throw-in.

57' Tottenham have dropped a little deeper in this half and it appears as though they're setting up to try and hit Newcastle on the counter-attack.

55' Another Newcastle attack falls apart as Almiron goes down too easily under pressure from Sanchez.

53' Lo Celso's corner amounts to nothing after Son's called back for a foul.

51' Murphy has an 18-yard shot blocked away by Sanchez, before Longstaff blazes the rebound high and wide.

50' Newcastle have created more chances than Tottenham so far today, and if that continues they'll have a chance of rescuing a result. They've managed 11 shots from inside the box, compared to three from the visitors.

48' Brilliant save from Lloris! Almiron shimmies into the box, before cutting inside on his left foot and curling a low effort towards the far corner that Lloris acrobatically tips around the post!

46' Newcastle get the second half underway.

It was looking so promising for the hosts after Joelinton's goal, but now they'll need a huge second half performance to lift themselves.

Kane strikes twice to give Tottenham a 2-1 lead at the break. Newcastle made a surprisingly bright start to this game and they took the lead following a spell of early pressure - a poor clearance from Sanchez, allowed Joelinton to open the scoring with a smart finish. However, the hosts collapsed instantly. First Kane tapped in seconds after Spurs kicked back off, and then minutes later the striker latched onto Ndombele's throughball to finish when through one-on-one to give the visitors a 2-1 lead at half time.

45' + 3' HALF TIME: Newcastle United 1-2 Tottenham

45' + 2' Longstaff hits a tame shot into the side netting from 12 yards.

44' Ritchie prevents another Tottenham counter-attack by sliding in on Vinicius.

42' Tottenham are trying to settle the game down again with a long spell of possession.

40' Shelvey puts another set-piece into the box for the hosts, but it drifts away for a throw-in.

38' Rodon stretches to divert Shelvey's cross away for a corner. The resulting delivery is met by Lascelles who has a scruffy shot deflected away for another corner.

36' Newcastle would have been full of optimism following Joelinton's opener, but their sudden collapse will crank the pressure right back up again.

32' Newcastle will be fuming with themselves. After securing a precious lead, they'd have been aiming to sit deep and defend it. However, they weren't fully focused from kick off and they've immediately surrendered their advantage.

27' Krafth's througball in search of Joelinton is too powerful and it drifts away for a goal kick.

25' Vinicius has it in the net after finishing a one-on-one, but the play's called back for a clear offside.

23' Newcastle have grown into the came after a nervy start and they'll be incredibly frustrated that they weren't able to take the lead through one of Gayle's chances.

21' Vinicius latches onto a cut back from Kane inside the box, but play is quickly stopped for an offside.

19' Amazing double save from Lloris! Shelvey picks out Gayle with a precise cross and the striker's initial header is clawed off the line by Lloris, before his follow-up effort is blocked away by the goalkeeper from close range! Gayle can only shake his head in disbelief!

17' Newcastle win another corner, as Gayle heads Murphy's cross against Tanganga and behind. However, the resulting set-piece amounts to nothing as the referee immediately blows up for a foul.

15' Ritchie connects with Krafth's deep cross, but he can only screw his volley away for a throw-in.

15' Shelvey's corner is headed clear by Reguilon at the back post.

13' If the visitors are to claim an important win, you'd think Kane will be at the heart of it. Kane has been involved in 43 goals in 40 games in all competitions this season (27 goals, 16 assists), just two short of his best ever season in his senior career (41 goals and 4 assists in 2017-18).

11' Tottenham have made an excellent start - they've controlled the game and have created plenty of chances against a cautious Newcastle.

9' Strong save from Dubravka! Kane drives into the box and cruises past Krafth, before firing a stinging, angled drive from 12 yards that Dubravka skilfully parries over the bar!

7' Moura goes down under Almiron's clumsy challenge just outside the box, earning Spurs another dangerous free-kick. However, Kane steps up and curls it wastefully into the wall, allowing Newcastle to clear.

5' Tottenham go close! Krafth bundles into Moura, presenting the visitors with a promising free-kick near the left-hand side. Moura takes it himself, and his delivery evades everyone before spinning narrowly wide of the far post!

3' Sanchez heads a clearance out to Joelinton, who quickly lashes a shot straight at Lloris from 25 yards.

2' Vinicius immediately gets in behind the Newcastle defence and drills in a low cross towards Kane, that Dubravka carefully gathers.

1' Tottenham get the first half underway.

The players are emerging from the tunnel and kick off is just seconds away!

The hosts are in dismal form and will be under serious pressure today. Since winning back-to-back league games against Crystal Palace and West Brom, Newcastle have won just two of their last 18 Premier League games (D5 L11). The Magpies have picked up fewer points in this period than any other Premier League side (11).

Tottenham are unchanged from the side that defeated Aston Villa 2-0 last time out.

Newcastle make five changes to the side that suffered a bitterly disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brighton before the international break: Clark, Maquillo, Willock, Isaac Hayden and Ryan Fraser all drop out.

SUBS: Gareth Bale, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Moussa Sissoko, Erik Lamela, Harry Winks, Dane Scarlett, Joe Hart, Son Heung-Min.

TOTTENHAM (4-4-2): Hugo Lloris; Japhet Tanganga, Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon, Sergio Reguilon; Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Lucas Moura; Harry Kane, Carlos Vinicius.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are battling for a top-four spot. They find themselves in seventh after four wins from their last six games and they’ll be looking for a victory to pull level on points with fourth-place Chelsea.

Hello and welcome to live commentary of this Premier League fixture between Newcastle United and Tottenham. The hosts enter this one right in the heart of a relegation battle: they’re in 17th and just two points clear of Fulham after a winless run of six games. They’ll be desperate for a victory today to ease the pressure.
