LIVE: West Brom vs Manchester City

LIVE: West Brom vs Manchester City

66' This has the slightly flat feel of a pre-season friendly now. Cancelo, from his half-back position, dips a cute ball into the penalty area but Torres and Jesus can't get on the end of it.

62' City win two corners in a row. West Brom manage to hold firm. At least they haven't been beaten from a set-piece so far.

59' West Brom get a corner down their left off Cancelo. The hosts can't create a shooting opportunity from it though.

55' Livermore asks Grant, now up front for West Brom, to run onto a ball over the top. Ederson is alert and sweeps up without much fuss.

53' You can't blame Guardiola for hauling off some of his best midfielders early. This game is clearly won and City's schedule is only set to get busier. It would have nice to see Foden and Gundogan for a bit longer though.

51' Rodri has tons of space in front of him. The Spaniard takes a few touches and smashes it towards goal. It whizzes just over the crossbar.

49' Sterling shows quick feet to dribble into the penalty area. The Englishman only has Johnstone to beat but takes too long to shoot and Gibbs gets across to snuff the chance out.

48' City resume their dominance, winning a corner early in the half off Ajayi. Johnstone comes out to push it out and Bartley gets involved straight away to block Mahrez's shot.

46' City get this game going again. No doubt West Brom are extremely excited.

Since Allardyce took charge of West Brom the Baggies have conceded 21 Premier League goals, nine more than any other side. Only three times has an Allardyce side conceded four goals in the first half of a Premier League home game, and two of those have come since his arrival at West Brom. West Brom's defence just seems irredeemably ill-suited for the top flight.

The visitors just put together what must be one of the best first halves of the season. Despite some minor issues in the opening minutes, City have been totally dominant since with Gundogan, Cancelo and Mahrez finding the net. They have left no chance of an upset. Allardyce will need to pick his players up for 45 more minutes.

45' + 3' HALF-TIME: WEST BROM 0-4 MANCHESTER CITY

45' There'll be three added minutes at the end of this half. Half-time probably can't come soon enough for West Brom.

44' Ederson comes out to head out Livermore's pass over the top for Robinson. Up the other end, Mahrez tries to get Gundogan free for his hat-trick but overcooks the pass. Johnstone boots clear.

42' Play stops briefly as Snodgrass requires some treatment for a knock. Thankfully the Scot looks OK to continue.

41' Gibbs shows a good reach to prevent Sterling latching onto Cancelo's sliderule pass. Livermore gives the ball away again though and West Brom briefly look in trouble before Sterling runs into traffic. Livermore redeems himself by rushing in to block.

39' Gundogan finds Cancelo in the box with a sumptuous pass. Cancelo dinks it towards goal but can't get the sufficient power on it to beat Johnstone. Man City are understandably playing with freedom.

37' Cancelo races onto a pass down the right to keep the ball in play for City. It's unusual to see Cancelo playing in that position here. He's spent most of the game looking more like a central midfielder.

35' Meanwhile City continue to probe. Foden drifts into the box from the left and crashes a shot off a defender. West Brom eventually get a free-kick.

33' West Brom have become the first top-flight side since Chelsea in 1978 to concede at least three goals in five consecutive home games. It's not a pretty picture for the Baggies at the moment.

31' West Brom get a free-kick down their left. Pereira sends it into the fray and Stones heads it away. Robinson keeps the ball alive for West Brom though and Snodgrass' pull back is blocked.

28' Chance for West Brom! Snodgrass finds Robinson inside the D and Robinson rolls an effort just wide of the left-hand post. It nearly snuck past Ederson into the bottom left corner. That's West Brom's best chance so far.

27' West Brom get a rare opportunity as Pereira scampers upfield and ventures into the box. The Brazilian appears caught in two minds as to whether to pass or shoot though and the door's soon closed on him.

26' Sterling fires the ball towards the box but can't find a way through the mass of West Brom defenders.

24' Sterling is caught offside from Silva's throughball. West Brom are struggling to create many attacks at all.

22' That's 26 goals conceded in 10 Premier League home games for West Brom now this season. They're leaky as anything at the Hawthorns this season.

20' Cancelo has the ball in the net with a lovely finish but it's ruled out for offside in the build-up. Was Furlong playing Silva onside? VAR is taking a look...

19' Man City are looking very comfortable at the moment with West Brom trying their hardest to defend. Silva leaves the ball for Cancelo who nearly loses the ball but City manage to retain it.

17' Furlong knocks the ball behind for City's first corner of the game as Sterling's low cross worries the defender. Foden swings the corner in and O'Shea is fouled by Stones. West Brom get the free-kick.

16' City have had 70 per cent of possession so far. Water is wet.

15' Mahrez jinks inside and aims for the top left corner with his left foot. The shot's got a decent dip on it but whizzes over the crossbar.

13' City are teasing West Brom at the moment. The hosts can't get anywhere near the ball for the most part. Mahrez slings a cross towards Foden but Furlong reads it well, winning possession. Livermore ends up losing the ball again soon enough.

11' Cancelo fires over from the edge of the box after receiving a pass inside from Foden.

10' City are looking extremely fluid at the moment with Foden, Mahrez and Sterling taking turns to occupy the main striking position. Sawyers gets ahold of the ball after a long spell of City possession and nods it safely back to Johnstone.

9' Manchester City have taken control of this game now as one could expect. City's stand-in captain Sterling eventually runs out of places to go and the offside flag goes up against him.

7' With his six goals Gundogan has just equalled his highest scoring season so far in the Premier League in 2018-19. The German will surely beat that record this season. He could even do it in this game.

4' City come up the other end and hit the post! Foden is in space down the left and bursts into the area. The young Englishman fires low at Johnstone and the West Brom goalkeeper gets down quickly enough to tip it onto the base of the woodwork! What a start this has been.

3' City get a bit confused as another long throw comes into the box. Perhaps West Brom noticed how uncomfortable long throws made City against Cheltenham the other night. The visitors manage to hook it away eventually from Ajayi.

2' West Brom start positively, winning a throw-in down the right that Furlong hurls into City's box. It's headed clear, but Ederson is forced to come off his line to punt out for another throw.

1' West Brom get this midweek game under way!

The two sides are out on the pitch at The Hawthorns. West Brom are in their navy blue and white striped home colours. City are in their favoured sky blue.

West Brom haven't beaten City in their last 18 Premier League meetings, dating back to a 2-1 win in December 2008 under Tony Mowbray. City have won their last six visits here, their longest ever away winning streak against an opponent in the top-flight. It all points to a City win, but these sides drew 1-1 at the Etihad a month ago. Can the Baggies bother City again?

West Brom make three changes from the team that lost 2-1 to West Ham last week as Furlong, Grant and Snodgrass come in. There are two changes to the City team that beat Aston Villa 2-0. Zinchenko starts ahead of Walker at full-back, while Mahrez replaces the injured Kevin De Bruyne. Foden makes his 100th appearance for the club. He's still only 20.

SUBS: Aymeric Laporte, Ferran Torres, Fernandinho, Gabriel Jesus, Eric Garcia, Benjamin Mendy, Zack Steffen, Adrian Bernabe, Kyle Walker.

MANCHESTER CITY (4-3-3): Ederson; Joao Cancelo, John Stones, Ruben Dias, Oleksandr Zinchenko; Ilkay Gundogan, Rodri, Bernardo Silva; Raheem Sterling (c), Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden.

SUBS: Branislav Ivanovic, Matt Phillips, Conor Townsend, Hal Robson-Kanu, Conor Gallagher, Kyle Bartley, Lee Peltier, Kyle Edwards, David Button.

WEST BROM (4-4-1-1): Sam Johnstone; Darnell Furlong, Semi Ajayi, Dara O'Shea, Kieran Gibbs; Robert Snodgrass, Jake Livermore (c), Romaine Sawyers, Karlan Grant; Matheus Pereira; Callum Robinson.

Man City are in imperious form at the moment, having finally found their attacking groove and having conceded just seven goals in their last 16 Premier League matches. If second-placed City win here, they would go top of the table for the first time this season. If they do, you suspect that Pep Guardiola's side won't want to give up that spot any time soon.

West Brom are yet to really kick on under Sam Allardyce as they enter this home game 19th in the table and still six points from safety. The Baggies have conceded more goals at home this season than any other team and have lost their last four games here by at least three goals, the first top-flight side in history to do so. A visit from City now is not ideal.
