Man Utd suffer shock home loss to Sheff Utd

Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.

United have to turn the corner quickly after losing for the first time in 14 league matches. They travel to face Arsenal in their next Premier League clash on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium. The tough games continue for Sheffield United as they travel to Manchester City on the same day.

Sheffield United pull off the result of the season to date in the Premier League by stunning Manchester United with a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford. Goals from Kean Bryan and Oliver Burke have secured a vital three points for the Blades in their battle against the drop, earning only their second league win of the season. The Red Devils equalised after Bryan's opener through Harry Maguire, but Burke's goal was the decisive moment. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men suffer a huge blow in their bid to compete for the title.

90' There will be four minutes of added time.

90' Cavani rises with Baldock in the box from a United corner, but the Uruguayan fouls the full-back and gives away a free-kick.

89' Jagielka bails out his team-mate Basham at the back, blocking Van de Beek's cross after the Dutchman dispossessed the defender in the left inside channel.

87' Bryan and Burke have scored their first Premier League goals tonight - it's the first time two players have netted their first PL goal against Man Utd in the same match since Esteban Cambiasso and Jamie Vardy did so in September 2014 for Leicester.

86' Burke is played through by Fleck and he runs at the last United defender Matic. However, the Serb makes a vital tackle to stop the winger in his tracks.

85' Rashford probes down the right flank and fires a low cross into the middle that Ampadu does well to clear in the left inside channel.

82' OVER! Pogba steers a cross into the box for Martial, who nods it back into the path of Cavani. The forward goes for a snapshot on his left foot, only to steer his effort over the bar.

79' Fernandes clips a ball into the left inside channel for Cavani to chase, but the Uruguayan fails to control the ball under no pressure and it travels behind for a goal-kick.

78' Burke has scored his first Premier League goal on his 28th appearance in the competition across spells with West Brom and Sheffield United.

77' WIDE! Pogba attacks a corner from the left flank from Telles. He angles his header across goal in a similar manner to Maguire, but the Frenchman directs his effort wide of the right post.

76' SAVE! Space opens up for Telles to strike from 25 yards. His effort takes a deflection off Lundstram and loops dangerously towards goal. Ramsdale has to backpedal and turn it over the bar.

71' Cavani works an offload towards Fernandes on the edge of the box. The Portuguese takes a touch, but he gets bundled off the ball by a fine challenge from Basham.

59' United are struggling to put the visitors under pressure. If anything, the Blades look the more dangerous outfit.

57' McGoldrick is played in behind the United defence and races through on goal. The forward blasts his strike over the bar, but the offside flag goes up late anyway.

56' CLOSE! Baldock slides a pass into the feet of McGoldrick in the box. He goes for goal with the outside of his right foot, and his effort swerves just wide of the left post. The Blades are keeping themselves on the front foot.

46' We're back underway at Old Trafford.

Chris Wilder will be thrilled with his side's performance thus far. They've been committed at the back and have kept United's key men at bay. At the other end the visitors have been clinical. The Blade need the same effort in the second half.

A surprise could be on the cards at Old Trafford as Sheffield United hold a 1-0 lead over Manchester United at the break. Kean Bryan's header is the difference between the two sides as he headed home from John Fleck's corner. The home side have been off the boil in the final third and need a response in the second period to maintain their recent run of excellent form.

45' + 4' HALF-TIME: MANCHESTER UNITED 0-1 SHEFFIELD UNITED

43' Wilder will be thrilled with his side's defensive performance in the first half. They've not allowed the home side an inch.

35' McGoldrick almost works the ball through to Bryan in the final third, but the wing-back is caught offside.

34' Manchester United have won seven Premier League games after conceding first this season - the most of any club - but all these wins have been away from home; they lost the two they conceded first at Old Trafford (vs Crystal Palace and Arsenal).

32' Rashford and Martial fail to combine on the edge of the Sheffield United box. The home side are not clicking in the final third with their passing game.

16' CHANCE! Fleck releases Sharp behind the last United defender and he runs away from Telles. The striker fires low and hard towards goal, but De Gea makes the stop with his boot.

15' Norwood releases Fleck in the final third and the midfielder has options. He offloads to the left flank for Bryan, but it's a stray pass that allows Wan-Bissaka to get across and charge down the cross from the full-back.

13' Tuanzebe lifts a long ball forward that Martial controls. However, as he tries to carve out room for a strike he loses out to Jagielka.

1' Fernandes launches an early ball over the top for Rashford, but it just trickles into the hands of Ramsdale inside the penalty area.

1' We're underway at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have won their last seven home top-flight encounters with Sheffield United, a run that stretches back to August 1975.

Sheffield United beat Plymouth Argyle in their FA Cup fourth-round contest at the weekend. Wilder has opted to make four changes to his team. Brewster and Bogle drop to the bench, while Enda Stevens misses out due to injury. John Egan is suspended for the contest, which sees Jagielka start in the backline. Bryan gets the nod on the left flank, while Baldock slots in on the right. McGoldrick partners Sharp in the final third.

United overcame Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Cup last time out. Solskjaer has made five changes to his team from the triumph over the Reds. De Gea returns between the posts, while there are two changes in the back four as Tuanzebe and Telles are rotated into the team to replace Lindelof and Shaw, who drop to the bench. Matic gets the nod ahead of McTominay in the defensive midfield role. Van de Beek and Cavani also make way in the final third for Fernandes and Martial.

SHEFFIELD UNITED SUBS: Lys Mousset, Max Lowe, Oliver Burke, Wes Foderingham, Jayden Bogle, Rhian Brewster.

SHEFFIELD UNITED (3-5-2): Aaron Ramsdale; Chris Basham, Phil Jagielka, Ethan Ampadu; George Baldock, John Lundstram, Oliver Norwood, John Fleck, Kean Bryan; David McGoldrick, Billy Sharp.

MANCHESTER UNITED SUBS: Victor Lindelof, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, Fred, Daniel James, Luke Shaw, Dean Henderson, Donny van de Beek, Scott McTominay.

MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1): David de Gea; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Axel Tuanzebe, Harry Maguire, Alex Telles; Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic; Mason Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial; Marcus Rashford.

The Blades are at the other end of the spectrum after taking only five points from their opening 19 matches. Chris Wilder's men claimed a vital win over Newcastle United to earn their first victory of the campaign, but their hopes of survival in the Premier League look slim to say the least. They need to start picking up wins, even ones in unlikely places. A victory at Old Trafford could provide a turning point for the south Yorkshire outfit.

Manchester United were surpassed at the top of the Premier League by Manchester City, who thrashed West Brom on Tuesday. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men have the perfect chance to respond and reclaim top spot against the bottom club Sheffield United tonight. The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last 13 Premier League matches and have won their last three games on the bounce at home. They cannot afford to take their foot off the gas.

Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Manchester United and Sheffield United at Old Trafford.
