Okene continues goalscoring form as Levante bow to Villarreal

The Nigerian-born striker added to her season goal tally for the Granotes at Levante Ciudad Deportiva on Sunday

Andrea Okene scored the only goal for Levante in a 3-1 defeat to Villarreal in their Spanish Reto Iberdrola encounter on Sunday.

The Nigerian-born Spanish striker has continued her eye-catching displays in front of goal for the Granotes, scoring her third goal of the season at Levante Ciudad Deportiva.

A week ago, the 19-year-old emerged as the heroine, when she scored the opener in her side’s 2-1 victory over Femarguin before a 1-1 draw at home against Albacete during midweek.

The forward starred again as one of the key actors for Nando Felipo's team as she registered yet another goal although it was not enough to save her side from defeat to the leaders.

Villarreal found themselves on the back foot when Levante opened the scoring as early as the third minute of the game through Okene.

The visitors, however, staged an incredible fightback after the break when Lara Mata levelled for Sara Monforte's side after just 11 minutes of the second half.

In the 73rd minute, Salma Paralluelo handed Villareal the lead from the spot before she guaranteed the visitors' away victory with her second of the match 10 minutes from full-time.

The defeat at home to the Southern group leaders saw Levante remain in the eighth position, with seven points from 10 matches this season.

Okene featured for the duration of the game and has now scored three goals in nine matches - all coming in her last four outings.

The Nigerian-born will be expected to continue her fine form when Levante return from the break against Alhama on January 21.

LIVE: Lille vs PSG

Kylian Mbappe was limited to a late substitute appearance on his birthday as Paris Saint-Germain were held at Lille.

Wasteful Paris Saint-Germain missed the chance to go top of Ligue 1 as they were held to a goalless draw by Lille on Sunday.

Moise Kean wasted several opportunities in a stalemate at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, where the champions ought to have consigned Lille to a first home defeat of the season in the top flight.

Kylian Mbappe was introduced just 13 minutes from time after being named as a substitute on his 22nd birthday and the striker did not have enough time to grab the winner.

The draw instead moved Lille back above Lyon at the summit on goal difference, with PSG only a point off the pace.

Thilo Kehrer headed just wide and Rafinha nodded Angel Di Maria's cross into the side-netting as PSG warmed to the task after a frantic start.

Idrissa Gueye came to the rescue with a great block after Kehrer gave the ball away inside his own penalty area as PSG tried to play out from the back, but Thomas Tuchel's men continued to pose a bigger threat.

Kean was denied by Mike Maignan when he tried to flick home a cross from Di Maria, whose dangerous free-kick was almost turned into his own net by Jose Fonte at the back post but Lille's goalkeeper made another save to keep his side on level terms.

Kean poked Layvin Kurzawa's inviting cross wide of the near post early in the second half and Yusuf Yazici strayed offside before he found the back of the net at the other end.

Di Maria was proving to be a real threat on his return to the starting line-up and his cross from the left flashed across the face of the goal as PSG continued to dominate with no reward.

Burak Yilmaz's long-range drive was tipped around the post by Keylor Navas before Mbappe was finally introduced just prior to Presnel Kimpembe making a brilliant last-ditch tackle when Lille hit PSG on the break.

Kimpembe limped off due to the damage done in that challenge and neither side could grab a late winner.

Vaz Pinto: Gor Mahia must improve finishing against Zoo FC

Real Madrid beat Eibar 3-1 on Sunday, with Karim Benzema playing a vital role as Los Blancos move up to second in the table.

Karim Benzema led the way as Real Madrid claimed a fifth successive win in a 3-1 triumph at Eibar on Sunday to go second in LaLiga.

Zinedine Zidane had been under intense pressure at the start of December due to a run of poor results, but the win at Ipurua was their fifth on the bounce across all competitions and leaves them on the tail of bitter rivals and pacesetters Atletico Madrid.

Benzema looked in the mood right from the start of an action-packed first half, the striker scoring and then teeing up Luka Modric in the early exchanges, before also having an effort disallowed for offside soon after Kike Garcia's stunning effort gave Eibar a lifeline.

Eibar certainly had their chances to clinch what had seemed an unlikely draw, but failed to take their opportunities and were punished again when Benzema played through Lucas Vazquez to wrap up the points in stoppage time.

'It could have been 12-4!' - Solskjaer praises Man Utd performance in win over Leeds

The Red Devils have moved up to third after coming out on top in an eight-goal thriller

Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised his side’s performance in Sunday’s thumping 6-2 win against Leeds, saying the game could have ended 12-4.

There were 43 shots at goal during a pulsating 90 minutes at Old Trafford with both sides committed to attacking football.

It was the Red Devils who were in command from the outset, with Scott McTominay opening the scoring after 69 seconds before quickly doubling his tally to become the first player in Premier League history to score twice in the opening three minutes of a match.

Bruno Fernandes also scored twice, with further goals from Victor Lindelof and Daniel James putting the gloss on a fine victory.

Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas replied for the Whites, who played their part in a thrilling encounter.

Having entered the game with just three goals in six Premier League games at home all season, Solskjaer was delighted to see his side return to goalscoring form on their own turf.

"That was fantastic from the first minute. We had a plan to get after them, go forwards when we had the ball and Scott McTominay got two goals in the first three minutes,” the Norwegian told Sky Sports.

"We found a way of getting them going, Just imagine if there were 75,000 people in [the stadium], it would have gone down in history as one of the great performances against Leeds.

"We had to earn the right by running as much as them, that's a challenge. It could have been 12-4! It's that kind of game.

"I enjoyed it, it was frantic, hectic. No matter what the score is they have a certain attitude or style, if they are 5-0 up or down.”

The win moves Manchester United up to third in the Premier League and within five points of leaders Liverpool with a game in hand going into the busy festive period.

Solskjaer, though, is not paying much attention to the league table at this stage.

"We are not even at the halfway point, the league position is not something we look at we look at the improvement of the team,” he added.

"Now we are getting fitter and stronger. Our fans needed that one."

Aboubakar’s brace and Bernard Mensah’s assist inspire Besiktas to victory

The Cameroon and the Ghana internationals made significant contributions for the Black Eagles at Vodafone Park

Vincent Aboubakar scored twice while Bernard Mensah provided an assist as Besiktas demolished BB Erzurumspor 4-0 in Sunday’s Turkish Super Lig game.

Aboubakar has been in scintillating form for the Black Eagles this season and continued the impressive performances at Vodafone Park.

The centre-forward opened the scoring in the 59th minute of the encounter, converting from the penalty.

French-born Cameroonian winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou then doubled his side’s lead in the 63rd minute after receiving a fine assist from Ghana international Mensah.

Domagoj Vida compounded the woes of their visitors when he scored the third goal for Besiktas after he was set up by Algeria international Rachid Ghezzal.

Aboubakar then sealed the victory for the Black Eagles with his second goal in the match after benefitting from Atiba Hutchinson’s assist.

The Cameroon international featured for 82 minutes in the encounter and has now scored in each of his last five games.

Mensah and N'Koudou featured for 73 minutes each before they were replaced by Dorukhan Tokoz and Cyle Larin, respectively.

Ghezzal was also on parade for 82 minutes before making way for Guven Yalcin while Ivorian Ibrahim Sissoko played for 10 minutes after he was introduced for Ricardo Gomes.

With the victory, Besiktas moved to the fourth spot on the league table after gathering 22 points from 12 games.

Aboubakar has now scored eight goals and provided one assist in 10 appearances in the 2020-21 campaign for the Vodafone Park outfit.

The forward teamed up with Besiktas permanently this season after terminating his contract with Porto, where he spent six years.

Aboubakar and Mensah will hope to continue their impressive performances when the Black Eagles take on Ankaragucu on December 24.

Malesela: TS Galaxy sack former Chippa United coach

The Rockets are now under the guidance of an ex-Pirates reserve coach following the 55-year-old tactician's departure

Premier Soccer League (PSL) debutants TS Galaxy have parted ways with coach Dan Malesela.

This comes after the Rockets suffered to a 3-2 defeat to Cape Town City in a PSL match which was played in the Mother City on Saturday evening.

The defeat extended Galaxy's winless run to six matches in the league and it was also their third successive loss.

The Rockets released the following statement on Sunday evening:

"TS Galaxy FC has parted ways with coach, Dan Malesela following a string of poor results which saw the club failing to win a match in the last six PSL matches," A club statement read.

Malesela had re-joined the Mpumalanga-based side at the start of the current season having left the club in February 2020 with the team struggling in the National First Division (NFD).

Galaxy club president Tim Sukazi explained why they had to cut ties with Malesela, who has also coached Chippa United in the PSL.

“The decision to part ways with Coach Dan was not an easy one as he has a rich history with our club," Sukazi said.

"Unfortunately, football is a result-driven business and decisions such as this can only be based on results than history.

“Coach Dan will always be highly regarded at our club and his name will remain well documented in our history books.”

Sukazi also revealed that Zipho Dlangalala will take over the coaching reins on an interim basis at the club and he will be assisted by Esau Mtsweni.

“Coach Zipho will be our Head Coach in the interim. All I can do is to wish him well because he deserves the opportunity to assume the head coaching role on a permanent basis but only time will tell.

"He is a very good Coach whom I believe has the potential that is yet to be realised at the top level of the game.

"Coach Zipho will be assisted by coach Esau Mtsweni who has been serving on the same role for quite some time. We believe there is good synergy between the two Coaches which could bring success to our club.”

Dlangalala has served as Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach and Orlando Pirates reserve team coach.

Galaxy's next match is against Baroka FC in a league match on January 5.

‘Salah should be blamed but he spreads fear among cowards in Egypt camp’ – Mido slams Liverpool star for contracting Covid-19 at brother's wedding

The Nigeria international and the Mali left-back featured prominently to help the Canaries avoid defeat at Stade de la Beaujoire

Moses Simon impressed while Charles Traore found the back of the net as Nantes played out a 1-1 draw against Angers in Sunday’s Ligue 1 game.

The Nigeria international was afforded his 11th league start of the season and helped Patrick Collot’s men avoid a second consecutive defeat after losing to Reims last time out.

Simon formed a three-man attack along with Renaud Emond and Ludovic Blas, and gave a good account of himself.

Traore also started the encounter in the left-back role and scored his first goal of the season for the Canaries.

The game began with both sides aiming to outwit each other and Romain Thomas broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute after he was set up by Thomas Mangani to hand Angers the lead.

With the game looking to end in favour of the Stade Raymond Kopa outfit, Traore then scored a crucial equalizer at the death to rescue a point for his side.

The draw moved the Canaries to the 15th spot on the Ligue 1 table after gathering 15 points from 16 games.

Simon struck two shots in the encounter, had 41 touches and had a 71 per cent successful pass rate during his 90 minutes of action.

The Super Eagles winger has now made 13 league appearances for the Stade de la Beaujoire outfit in the current season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

Traore also featured for the duration of the game along with Algeria international Mehdi Abeid, while Mali’s Lassana Coulibaly, Ivory Coast internationals Abdoulaye Bamba and Ismael Traore were on parade for Angers throughout the encounter.

Simon teamed up with Nantes in 2019 from Spanish club Levante, initially on loan before the deal was made permanent this summer following his eye-catching performances for his side.

The forward along with Traore will hope to help the Canaries end their seven-game winless run when they take on Lyon in their next league game on December 23.

Nantes finished in mid-table last season and will hope to improve on the performance in the 2020-21 season.

Kevin De Bruyne injury: Progress & potential return date for Man City midfielder

The Ivory Coast international had been warned about making rash challenges by the Portuguese but gave away the softest of penalties against Leicester

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has refused to castigate Serge Aurier for a penalty he conceded in Spurs’ 2-0 loss to Leicester in the Premier League on Sunday.

Aurier conceded a soft penalty in the first half when he fouled Wesley Fofana in the box, despite the visiting player moving away from the target.

Mourinho had previously been caught on camera during Amazon documentary ‘Spurs All or Nothing’ telling Aurier that he was scared of him giving away a “sh*t penalty with VAR”.

The Portuguese, though, has done his best to defend the former Toulouse and Paris Saint-Germain defender.

“It was a mistake, not a moment of madness,” he told Sky Sports. “I have to admit, you have to know where you are when you’re in the box. You have to know that the player was going away from goal without any kind of danger. You have to describe it as a mistake.

“I know my players’ qualities. Serge was phenomenal against Liverpool – probably our best player – and today, he made this mistake. It’s not fair to say if it cost us the three points. There were other players who showed an attitude that I did not like.”

Mourinho did concede, however, it was a blow that his side went in behind following a first half during which they had appeared comfortable.

“You expect to go in at 0-0 but we went in 1-0 down. Then in the second half we conceded another own goal,” he said.

“The reaction was positive. Kasper Schmeichel made a couple of important saves, but it’s a game we lost with a penalty and an own goal.

“With the result, it looks like our opponent was totally in control, but that’s not the reality. Our performance was not good but the game was not like they deserved to win or we deserved to lose. It was not a good game, it was a poor game.”

Defeat means that Tottenham have lost their last couple in the league and have consequently fallen six points behind Liverpool in the standings.

Spurs will play Stoke in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday in their final fixture before Christmas.

SuperSport United 2-2 Chippa United: Red-hot Grobler edges closer to Matsatsantsa record

The Blues defender pulled out of a recent session having felt pain in his knee, but a scan revealed that the problem isn't too serious

Chelsea are facing a dilemma with right-back Reece James after he pulled out of training due to a knee problem.

The 21-year-old had a scan on his knee at Chelsea's training ground on Sunday morning which reveaed that he has a fluid build-up in his joint.

The club is now weighing up the best course of action, though the injury is understood not to be too severe.

James initially suffered the injury following a collision with Daniel Podence in Chelsea's 2-1 defeat at Wolves on Tuesday. The England international trained with his club on Friday before complaining that his pain was increasing.

Chelsea now face a decision on whether to wait for the problem to settle or try to accelerate the recovery through a minor operation.

James will likely miss Monday's match against West Ham, with Cesar Azpilicueta set to step in at right-back having lost his place to James despite being the club captain.

Meanwhile, Blues head coach Frank Lampard is expecting to welcome back both Callum Hudson-Odoi and Hakim Ziyech, who trained for the first time on Friday ahead of the London derby.

Hudson-Odoi, in particular, is confident that he can be ready for at least a bench role to help his side who have lost their last two games away at both Wolves and Everton.

The absence of a host of wingers in recent weeks has been a struggle for Lampard's side to overcome.

Christian Pulisic had a spell on the sidelines with a persistent hamstring problem that he first sustained in the FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal in August. That was coupled with injuries to both Hudson-Odoi and Ziyech in the last few weeks.

Kai Havertz also received a positive Covid-19 test and was said to have suffered particularly bad symptoms, which has disrupted his match sharpness.

Chelsea will be happy to have most of their squad available ahead of a busy period. After the West Ham match they have two games in two days with a trip to Arsenal followed by a home clash with Aston Villa.

Lampard and Chelsea had called for the number of substitutes allowed per match to be increased from three to five to help ease the pressure on Premier League squads.

However, the option was voted down for a third time having been used previously during Project Restart when the league continued after the first UK lockdown due to coronavirus. Lampard spoke of his frustration at the decision ahead of his clash with the Hammers.

"When we spoke about it as managers, the overriding factor from managers, whether they were maybe for or against, was that this is a case of player welfare, making sure we are looking after players and giving them the best opportunity to play at optimum level and not putting them at risk and such, because of the uncertain times and the schedule," Lampard told reporters over Zoom.

"And that schedule gets tougher, for instance we play two games in three days over Christmas. So I think it would have been really beneficial for player welfare. Normally the modern-day player welfare comes out on top, I don't think it quite has this time.

"But the decision's been made, and we carry on."

'It's important Juventus win' - Ronaldo plays down talk about his latest records

The Scotland international put the Red Devils in control in their first Premier League meeting against the Whites in 16 years

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay wrote his name in the history books by becoming the first player in Premier League history to score twice in the first three minutes of a match against Leeds United on Sunday.

The Scotland international put United in front with a low 20-yard strike after just 69 seconds, the Red Devils’ fastest top-flight goal against Leeds.

McTominay repeated the trick a minute later. Anthony Martial’s pass found the onrushing midfielder, who took a neat first touch to get the ball out of his feet before firing past Whites goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

They were the type of goals more befitting of an accomplished attacking midfielder, rather than someone more known for his defensive capabilities.

McTominay had scored just six goals in his previous 68 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils, with his last strike coming late on in the Manchester derby back in early March.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side went further ahead when a thunderous strike from Bruno Fernandes put the home side 3-0 up after just 20 minutes. That was the earliest Manchester United have scored three goals in a Premier League game since August 2006 against Fulham.

Things got even better for Manchester United when defender Victor Lindelof slammed home their fourth goal from close range after Martial had flicked on Luke Shaw’s near-post corner, the first time Leeds have conceded four first-half goals in the Premier League.

Leeds hit back before the break through Liam Cooper’s header, but Man Utd would get two more goals midway through the second half through Fernandes and Dan James.

The Portugal international has now been involved in 30 goals in just 27 Premier League appearances after he joined from Sporting CP in January.

A win at Old Trafford would be enough to lift Manchester United into the top four, with the club still having a game in hand on the rest of the top six.

That would go a long way towards answering the critics who have questioned Solskjaer’s position in recent weeks, particularly after the club were knocked out of the Champions League.

Caf Champions League: Gor Mahia want clash vs CR Belouizdad moved

The Kenyan champions have written to the local federation seeking to have their first round, first leg match given another date

Gor Mahia have sought the help of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to have their Caf Champions League match against CR Belouizdad rescheduled.

Goal can exclusively reveal the Kenyan champions have written to the federation requesting they call on the African body to have the first leg match set for Algeria on Wednesday to be rescheduled, and played on neutral ground.

According to a top FKF official who did not want to be named, Gor Mahia are arguing that they have failed to acquire a flight to Algeria, claiming their airspace is currently closed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Gor Mahia have written to FKF and we have forwarded the letter to Caf, they want the match rescheduled and played in a neutral ground because they cannot access Algeria,” the source told Goal.

“We will have to wait and see what Caf will say in their response but we should expect an obvious answer, Gor Mahia will be fined heavily because Caf gave them the flights that can be used to reach Algeria but they are now saying they cannot access the country.

“It is unfortunate that even the letter asking us to intervene and talk to Caf came to us at 17:00 on Sunday, and they knew they are travelling on Sunday, I really don’t understand what is the problem at the club.

“What I can tell you, Caf will come hard on them, they will have to pay a fine and it will range from Ksh3million to Ksh4million.

“How come match officials for the match are able to access Algeria and Gor Mahia cannot? They will have to refund Caf for the money they have used in preparations for the match, that is for sure.”

Earlier on Sunday, Goal exclusively reported that Gor Mahia players had threatened to boycott the fixture if they are not paid their dues.

K'Ogalo players have been on a go-slow and Goal understands they held a meeting with some officials on Saturday and made it clear they will not travel to Algeria for the game if they are not paid.

“We have not been paid our November monies as well as this [December] month,” a senior player in the team told Goal on Sunday.

“Yes, we had a meeting on Saturday and our stand was made clear. The office should pay us our allowances and salaries before we talk about the Algeria trip.

“As it stands, nobody has communicated to us regarding the logistics of the game. We are in the dark over everything, but again, they cannot tell us because our stand has been made clear.”

The Kenyan champions qualified for the next phase of the competition after they managed to secure a 4-3 aggregate win against APR of Rwanda in a two-legged affair.

The Rwandan champions came into the return leg with a 2-1 advantage from their first leg meeting in Kigali, but fell short as Gor Mahia scored two quick goals in added time to win 3-1 on the day and advance.

On the other hand, CR Belouizdad reached the next round after a 4-0 aggregate win against Al Nasr of Libya. The Algerian champions won the first leg away in Tripoli 2-0 and returned home to complete the job with another 2-0 win to set a date with K'Ogalo.

'Kerala Blasters deserved the point' - Kibu Vicuna proud of second-half fight against East Bengal

Kerala Blasters snatched a point in added time against East Bengal...

Kerala Blasters boss Kibu Vicuna felt that his team deserved the late goal that Jeakson Singh scored against East Bengal in the 2020-21 Indian Super League (ISL) match on Sunday.

A 13th-minute Bakary Kone own goal had East Bengal in the lead for most of the game but half-time substitutes Jeakson Singh and Sahal Abdul Samad combined to come up with a late equaliser for the winless Yellow Army.

"I think it was a deserved goal that Jeakson scored. I am proud of their players' fighting spirit in the second half. We wanted three points but we showed that we can create chances," the former Mohun Bagan head coach said after the game.

Striker Gary Hooper, who only has one goal to his name this season, once again led the line for Blasters after Vicuna had opted for a two-striker system in their previous match. The Spaniard explained the return to the single striker formation, saying he wanted the team to dominate the game. Hooper was replaced at the break due to an injury.

"It was for tactical reasons (that the team switched back to a one-striker system). We wanted to have the ball more than the opponent. We had different possibilities and I thought this was the best one.

"(Hooper) is a good player, he was an important player. He had muscular problems and I replaced him with Murray."

'We should have won the game' - East Bengal boss Robbie Fowler disappointed by Kerala Blasters stalemate

Kerala Blasters and East Bengal remain winless after six matches in the 2020-21 Indian Super League...

East Bengal head coach Robbie Fowler believes his team should have secured all three points against Kerala Blasters in the 2020-21 Indian Super League (ISL) match on Sunday.

The Red and Golds took the lead courtesy of a Bakary Kone own goal in the first half but conceded in added time to drop points. The stalemate means both the teams are yet to win a game this season.

After the game, Fowler said, "We are disappointed. It is a game we should have won. We had enough chances to win more than one game. We need to be a little bit more clinical in the final third.

"The plan was to win the game. We do a lot of work on the opposition. There were a lot of times when we did get (in behind). There is a bit of room for improvement in terms of finishing."

East Bengal's woes in front of goal this season are well documented and Fowler opted to field Anthony Pilkington upfront to find joy in the final third against Blasters. The move worked as the Kolkata-based club looked dangerous when going forward and created chances to score.

"We work hard on what we are doing. In the final third, we want quality players to not just score but also hold up and bring others into the game," Fowler explained the decision.

"He (Pilkington) brings a lot of quality. He has played at a fantastic level. It obviously gives us a headache (for the next game). We got lots of players in the squad and will use them as we see fit."

Fowler felt that the Indian players in the team did a good job and also mentioned that forward Aaron Amadi-Holloway was not feeling well enough to play the game.

"We have to work hard, sometimes things go against us. The young lads who came on put a shift in.

"Aaron is injured. We will never force the players to play. He wasn't ready. We couldn't really see much from the scans but the player was hurt."

East Bengal have been working behind the scenes to improve their squad in the January transfer window but Fowler wasn't ready to reveal if the club has completed any signing yet.

"We want the team to be strong. There is going to be work behind the scenes, hopefully, we will bring players in."

We'll kick his butt if necessary - Rummenigge determined to get the best out of Sane

The former Manchester City winger came on against Bayer Leverkusen but was replaced later in the game, much to his disgust

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge warned Leroy Sane must show more desire and says Bayern Munich will be prepared to "kick his butt" if needed to get the best out of their big-money signing.

Sane has endured a difficult start to his time at Bayern and hit a new low when he was hauled off after being introduced as a substitute to replace the injured Kingsley Coman in the first half of a dramatic 2-1 win at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

The winger, signed on a five-year deal for an initial fee of €49 million (£44.5m) - rising to €60m - from Manchester City in July, spent just 36 minutes on the field at BayArena.

Sane had been criticised by the great Lothar Matthaus ahead of the game and Bayern coach Hansi Flick also said the 24-year-old must offer more in order to force his way into the team.

The Bundesliga champions' chief executive Rummenigge says Sane has to raise his game and work harder to be a success at the club, who on Sunday revealed Coman's hamstring injury is not serious.

He told  SPORT1 : "Leroy was not happy [to be taken off], that's clear and understandable. God gave him incredible talents. I only believe one thing: he has not yet reached this FC Bayern gene.

"Like Thomas Muller, he was my hero yesterday. He has marched up and down, but not as protected by talent as Leroy. He has to work on that, that is his job.

"We have done everything we can to ensure that he comes to Bayern. We encourage every player, but we also challenge. He has to internalise that and the team supports him.

"He has to take the next step, Leroy has to adapt his character to FC Bayern. This character is: you forgive everything, but you have to give the impression that you are throwing everything into the balance in order to leave the field as the winner. He will have to learn that."

Rummenigge added: "I believe that he can have a big future at FC Bayern. We are ready to help him, to encourage him, but he also has to challenge himself in order to get to where he can be. We will, if necessary, kick his butt to get him there."

Sane lost possession nine times in his short time on the field, completed 15 of his 19 passes (78.9 per cent) and conceded two fouls, more than any other Bayern player.

Robert Lewandowski's last-gasp goal, his second of the game, consigned Leverkusen to a first defeat of the season to ensure Bayern will end 2020 two points clear at the top of the table.

Andre Onana impressed in goal while Zakaria Labyad found the back of the net to help Ajax secure a 4-2 victory over ADO Den Haag in Sunday’s Eredivisie game.

Onana continued his consistent form for the Sons of the Gods, making his 13th league appearance, and helped his side secure their third consecutive victory.

Labyad was afforded his tenth league start at Cars Jeans Stadion and scored his seventh goal of the season across all competitions.

Dusan Tadic opened the surge of goals in the 20th minute after receiving a timely assist from Sean Klaiber.

Two minutes later, Klaas Jan Huntelaar doubled the lead with a fine effort after he was set up by Daley Blind.

Labyad then made it three at the half-hour mark for his fifth league goal of the campaign after receiving a fine pass from Antony.

Huntelaar then completed his brace in the 32nd minute to ensure the Sons of the Gods go into the break with a comfortable lead.

After the restart, Ajax seemed to take their feet off the pedal as ADO Den Haag launched an attempted comeback with Michiel Kramer reducing the deficit in the 49th minute.

Samy Bourard then found the back of the net in the 70th minute after benefitting from Kramer’s assist but the effort was not enough to help the Hagueavoid against defeat.

Onana featured for the duration of the game along with Morocco international Labyad, who has been with Ajax since 2018.

The victory helped Ajax maintain their lead on the top of the league table after gathering 33 points from 13 games.

The African stars will be expected to continue their consistent performances when the Sons of the Gods take on Willem II in their next league game on December 23.

Onana has made more than 140 appearances across all competitions for Ajax since his promotion to the first team.

The Cameroon international has helped the club win a number of accolades, including the league title and Cup trophy.

Rapinoe: Rubiales' kiss signals 'deep misogyny'

The ‘Icer Cream Makers’ have confirmed the exit of the striker, who joined them at the start of the 2020-21 season

Azam FC have confirmed they have reached an agreement to sell their striker Alain Thierry Akono Akono to Negeri Sembilan of Malaysia.

The Cameroonian arrived at the Chamazi-based giants on August 24 from AS Fortuna du Mfou.

The club has confirmed his exit on their social media pages by stating: “Azam we have reached an agreement with Negeri Sembilan of Malaysia, to sell our player Cameroon, Alain Thierry Akono Akono.

"Akono joined Azam early this season as he came from Cameroon's Fortuna club for a two-year contract and becomes the third player to be sold by Azam this season.

“The club has sold Novatus Dismas who emerged in Israel, followed Shaaban Chilunda who was sold in Morocco. We are so thankful for his service in our club and we wish him all the best in his new journey wherever he goes.”

The exit of the burly striker comes just hours after Azam coach George Lwandamina claimed he will have to sign a few players in the mini-transfer window if the team is to remain among the title contenders.

The Chamazi-based giants started the season on a high, managing to win seven straight matches from the opening fixture and were leading the log for most of the early stages before they lost to Mwadui FC.

After the defeat, they moved to fire Romanian coach Aristica Cioaba and went for the services of the much-travelled Lwandamina, who has so far overseen two matches, both ending in 2-2 draws - against Namungo FC and Ruvu Shooting

“There is nothing I will promise at the moment about the signing of new players but I will sit down with the directors of the club to find out what I will do during this transfer period,” Lwandamina said as quoted by Sokalabongo.

“Every day there is a lot of competition which also contributes to the league being tough and good, and the Tanzanian league is now getting bigger as people are being reached with information wherever they are unlike in the past.

“So we must be actively involved to make sure we beef up the areas I feel need improvement; it will all depend with the club bosses but we need to improve a few areas if we are to remain in title contention.”

Against Ruvu Shooting at the Chamazi complex, the ‘Ice-cream Makers’ took a deserved lead in the 34th minute when striker Ayoub Lwanga headed home from a corner kick but Emmanuel Martin levelled matters for Ruvu in the 53rd minute.

Azam regained the lead in the 60th minute when Mudathir Yahya powered home from close range but the goal was not enough to end their bad run as Fully Zullu Maganga ensured Ruvu got a point from the tie in the 70th minute.

The draw left them in third spot on 28 points while Yanga SC, who beat Dodoma Jiji 3-1 on Sunday, are top with 37 points from 16 matches and champions Simba SC, who edged out KMC 1-0 on Thursday, are second with 32 points from 14 matches.

Tottenham 0-2 Leicester City: Spurs' title hopes suffer further blow with damaging defeat

Tottenham 0-2 Leicester City: Spurs' title hopes suffer further blow with damaging defeat

A Jamie Vardy penalty and an own goal were the difference as Leicester City deservedly leapfrogged Tottenham in the Premier League table.

Tottenham's Premier League title hopes suffered a second significant dent in as many games as they fell to a 2-0 home defeat to Leicester City.

Looking to bounce back from the disappointment of conceding late in a 2-1 defeat to leaders Liverpool in midweek, Spurs instead saw a lacklustre performance deservedly punished.

A Jamie Vardy penalty put Leicester in front on the stroke of half-time before an own goal from Toby Alderweireld put the Foxes firmly in command.

Tottenham's failure to find a way back into the game leaves them six points adrift of Liverpool and sees them drop to fourth, with Leicester now second and four behind the champions.

Leicester started strongly but their five shots in the opening 20 minutes yielded no reward and the first effort on target from either team did not come until the 34th minute, when Kasper Schmeichel was required to keep out a deflected free-kick from Harry Kane, who then headed over from close range.

But a largely uneventful first half ended with a familiar face putting Leicester in front, Vardy firing home from 12 yards in the fourth minute of stoppage time after Serge Aurier had barged into the back of Wesley Fofana just inside the area.

Spurs, trailing at half-time for the first time in 20 league games, threw on Gareth Bale for Tanguy Ndombele after the interval but looked to have fallen 2-0 down within three minutes of the restart when James Maddison superbly controlled James Justin's long ball and confidently slotted beyond Hugo Lloris.

However, Maddison was deemed to have strayed marginally offside by VAR but Leicester's lead was doubled just before the hour mark.

Vardy showed more desire than Alderweireld to attack a deep cross from Marc Albrighton and although Moussa Sissoko did to defend it, his header deflected off the his team-mate and past Lloris.

Schmeichel produced a stunning reaction stop to deny Son Heung-min but Spurs struggled to threaten thereafter as Leicester stood firm to claim a win that underlines their credentials as title challengers.

What does it mean? – Below-par Spurs pay the penalty

Vardy's successful penalty was Leicester's eighth of the season, at least three more than any other team in the Premier League.

The Foxes were full value for their win, Tottenham producing a display in stark contrast to the one delivered by Liverpool in their 7-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Foxes a creative force

Though Vardy, who limped off late on, was a key figure in both goals, he benefited from excellent service from the three advanced players operating behind him.

Maddison supplied five key passes and was unfortunate to see a fine goal chalked off by VAR. Harvey Barnes and Albrighton played two each and the latter's far-post cross resulted in Alderweireld finding the back of his own net.

Aurier and Alderweireld at fault

Tottenham conceded a goal from the penalty spot and an own goal in the same Premier League game for only the second time, having first done so back in March 2000 in a 2-1 North London derby defeat to Arsenal.

Aurier's push was in explicable and both Alderweireld and Sissoko should have questions to answer over their involvement in the second goal.

Key Opta facts:

- Leicester will be in the first two places of the top-flight table at Christmas in consecutive seasons for the first time in their history.
- The Foxes have picked up 18 points in their last seven games on the road (W6 L1), the most they have collected in their first seven away games of a league season in their history (assuming three points for a win).
- Vardy has been directly involved in seven goals (five goals, two assists) in as many Premier League away games against Spurs, more than versus any other opponent on the road in the competition.
- Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers gained his first victory in all competitions against a Jose Mourinho side, having failed to win any of his previous seven such encounters (D2 L5).

What's next?

A December 23 trip to Stoke City in the EFL Cup quarter-finals beckons for Tottenham, who visit Wolves four days later, a day after Leicester take on Manchester United at home.

Sassuolo 1-2 Milan: Rafael Leao hits fastest ever Serie A goal as youthful leaders impress

Sassuolo 1-2 Milan: Rafael Leao hits fastest ever Serie A goal as youthful leaders impress

Rafael Leao set a new Serie A record for the fastest goal ever seen in the competition, giving leaders Milan a flying start at Sassuolo.

Rafael Leao drove home the fastest goal in Serie A history to set leaders Milan on their way to a 2-1 win at Sassuolo

Milan head coach Stefano Pioli said on Saturday that Leao's recent performances had been "not up to standard", but there was no faulting his sharp finish after six seconds at the Citta del Tricolore stadium.

The 21-year-old former Lille forward took a pass from Hakan Calhanoglu in his stride and, with his third touch, smashed the ball past home goalkeeper Andrea Consigli.

Alexis Saelemaekers added a second in the 26th minute and Milan's lead rarely came under threat from sixth-placed Sassuolo until Domenico Berardi netted an 89th-minute free-kick that made for a briefly tense finish.

Pioli fielded a team with an average age of just 22 years and 313 days, Milan's second youngest line-up since the 2004-05 season, when Opta began collecting such data.

There was no Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the team's 39-year-old leading scorer absent after suffering a calf strain in training as he prepared for a first-team return.

But after Juventus showed they remain a part of the Scudetto conversation with an impressive 4-0 win at Parma on Saturday, it was Milan's turn to show their hand, and they had an ace up their sleeve.

Leao put an emphatic finishing touch to Milan's immediate charge through the Sassuolo ranks, with Brahim Diaz playing the kick-off short to Calhanoglu, who raced straight towards the penalty area in what looked a well-rehearsed ploy. Calhanoglu's pass through to Leao was smashed in, leaving the home side shell-shocked and still yet to touch the ball.

Milan thought they had a second goal in the ninth minute when Calhanoglu drove home low into the left corner from the edge of the penalty area, but a marginal offside in the build-up saw the goal disallowed after a VAR check.

They were nevertheless in control and full value for their second goal when it arrived in the 26th minute. Theo Hernandez ran from deep inside his half down the left flank before darting infield and clipping a short pass that gave Saelemaekers a tap-in.

Gianluigi Donnarumma made a fine diving stop to keep out a fizzing 25-yard shot from Mehdi Bourabia in the second half, before Milan threatened a third when Jens Petter Hauge's curling shot from similar range was pushed away by Consigli.

Sassuolo had the final say as Berardi got his shot beyond the Milan wall, but the visitors survived.

What does it mean? Milan demonstrate title credentials

The arrival of Ibrahimovic and his alpha manner almost 12 months ago might have instigated this Milan revival, but without him on the pitch they are proving formidable too, a team so confident they could attempt and pull off that audacious charge at goal from kick-off.

The young side on Sunday looked every inch potential champions.

Milan tactical shift foils Sassuolo

Milan had just 32 per cent of possession, their lowest rate of the season in the league. But when they broke, they did so with pace and numbers, white shirts swarming the Sassuolo defence. Milan had 66 per cent possession against Hellas Verona in November and 65.26 per cent last week against Parma, but they drew both those games 2-2.

This time a counter-attacking style suited the occasion, with Milan happy to let their hosts dominate possession and then sting on the counter. Centre-back Pierre Kalulu played the most passes among Milan players with a modest 39, against a team-high 103 from Sassuolo's Gian Marco Ferrari.

Diaz a soft touch

Diaz made his sixth Serie A start of the season but was nowhere near as involved as Milan would have liked.

He played just nine passes all game and had a mere 14 touches before making way for Hauge in the 57th minute. Only three players have had fewer touches among those who have taken part in 55 minutes or more of a game in Italy's top flight this season.

Key Opta facts

- Rafael Leao's goal after six seconds sees him beat the previous record set by Paolo Poggi, scored for Piacenza in December 2001 (8 seconds).
- Only Barcelona in 1948 (18 consecutive games) have scored two or more goals for more top-five European league matches in a row in a single calendar year than Milan in 2020 (15).
- In the history of the single round Serie A (since 1929-30), no unbeaten sides after 13 games played have finished the campaign outside the top four positions.
- Theo Hernandez has provided three assists in Serie A this season in 12 games played, already equalling his tally for the 2019-20 campaign.
- Domenico Berardi has scored his fourth Serie A goal direct from a free-kick, while it is his second against Milan (the other was in October 2015).

What's next?

Milan face Lazio on Wednesday in a San Siro test before the league goes on its winter break. Sassuolo head to Sampdoria on the same evening.

Who is Albert Lokonga? Everything you need to know about Arsenal's £18m transfer target

90' + 1' We're into the first of three added minutes and - in worrying news for the hosts - McTominay has been forced off clutching his groin. Cavani meanwhile pulls an effort wide down the far end.

90' If anything sums up the Whites' evening, it is a lovely square ball from Raphinha now that Bamford steps over entirely and Harrison promptly curls wide. Leeds surely won't be parting with Marcelo Bielsa after this though.

89' It is hard to be critical of Leeds - this uncompromising approach wins them as many as they lose, and it's often a delight - but their defence has been particularly shoddy across the last 20 minutes or so, even discounting the four first-half goals.

88' The hosts have had 25 shots by the way, while Leeds have had 16. This has been a wild match.

87' Telles is the latest man to pop an effort in, which Meslier pushes away for a corner. The keeper is on hand to punch away Maguire's header a moment later - and then has to deal with a Fred effort after some appalling defensive play. Martial heads the final corner over.

85' Cavani! The Uruguayan leads a Red Devils break and sees Meslier parry his effort back out. James taps a follow-up towards goal and the keeper claims this one cleanly.

83' Eight goals. Nobody has been shortchanged on that front. Are there more to come?

81' A botched Red Devils clearance allows Harrison to poke an effort though, which the hosts deflect for a corner. Wan-Bissaka blocks that for another set-piece and Ayling nudges the subsequent effort over the crossbar.

79' This really has been the perfect storm for Leeds though, hasn't it? Manchester United have not bunkered down, they have opted to - for large parts - meet them at their own game. It has brought up their shortcomings on arguably the biggest stage of their season.

77' Consecutive Leeds corners and a waved-off penalty shout are the latest opportunities to present themselves in this match. There's been no shortage of entertainment.

75' Leeds United have had 59 per cent of possession in this match. They trail by four goals. The Premier League? Bielsaball? Both have fed into this manic game.

69' Penalty to Manchester United! Martial is brought down following a neat run by Rashford, and Struijk is the guilty party. Fernandes will take.

68' This has been a quieter half, both sides perhaps drained by both early exertions and the inability to find a sixth goal in this match. Now the hosts have it, they've got a spring in their step. Leeds are looking more withdrawn.

67' This has been a quieter half, both sides perhaps drained by both early exertions and the inability to find a sixth goal in this match. Now the hosts have it, they've got a spring in their step. Leeds are looking more withdrawn.

64' Raphinha! A volley from the winger is tipped away from the left corner by De Gea, though it looked destined for the side netting regardless.

62' Bamford looks to take an accidental finger in the eye from Maguire during a high challenge. The latter puts the ball out for a throw-in so he can be checked and Leeds restart by putting their throw-in straight back to De Gea.

58' Manchester United's power on the counter so far is just looking more potent than that of their visitors. Fernandes wins another corner, Meslier punches it away and Leeds survive this latest attempt.

56' Bamford drills an effort in following a Harrison cut-back, and sees his deflected effort countered by James once more. He draws the foul in midfield and wins the free-kick.

54' Manchester United's power on the counter so far is just looking more potent than that of their visitors. Fernandes wins another corner, Meslier punches it away and Leeds survive this latest attempt.

54' End-to-end corners now, as Harrison wins a strong effort and promptly sees the Red Devils counter. Rashford lays on Fernandes and a deflection wins him a set-piece that sails past the unmarked Portuguese.

50' Raphinha! De Gea makes a great stop to deny the winger, who comes close to wrestling a cross in at the left side. The deflection still requires the post and Wan-Bissaka to put it out for good measure.

49' These changes at the break from Leeds could add a shade of extra nuance to their play. But they will undoubtedly refuse to sit back here.

47' Martial! That should have been a fifth goal for the hosts. Dallas is sloppy inside his own half and allows Fernandes to pick his pocket. He plays the striker in, who then scuffs a sitter wide of the right post.

46' We're back underway for the second half at Old Trafford. What have Leeds got up their sleeve for this second act - and will it be as plain sailing to deal with as Manchester United hope?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked honestly a little shellshocked as he walked off there - and his side are ahead! That's just what a crackpot match this has been. The Red Devils are on for three points - but there's a long way to go yet.

We expected fireworks but perhaps not quite like that. Marcelo Bielsa's uncompromising tactical vision has come unstuck on occasion in the top-flight, but arguably never as much as today - and yet, you wouldn't put it past his side to pull something out of the hat.

A Scott McTominay double inside the first three minutes? Just the tip of the iceberg in this absolutely barmy game that has seen Manchester United have less ball than Leeds United - and remarkably lead by three goals. Efforts for Bruno Fernandes, Victor Lindelof and Liam Cooper have added to a riotously entertaining Premier League match. Half-time at Old Trafford, it is Manchester United 4-1 Leeds United.

45' + 3' HALF-TIME: MANCHESTER UNITED 4-1 LEEDS UNITED

45' + 2' Some sloppy work from Lindelof around the back allows Bamford to almost pounce, with a goal-kick given after the ball flies out of play.

45' + 1' We're into the first of two added minutes in this opening half. There's not been many better games for neutrals this season in the Premier League, and that really is saying something.

45' Rashford! The striker trades the ball between his feet from the set-piece and fires low from outside the box, with Meslier getting down low to make the stop.

44' Corners at both ends in the space of 90 seconds now, with Leeds flagged offside at their own set-piece and Rashford earning the Red Devils their own through a neat run.

41' Martial gets flagged for offside at one end and Raphinha pumps a promising cross in at the other, with a return delivery earning Leeds a corner. The visitors are refusing to lie down.

39' Marcelo Bielsa, a man who is wonderfully uncompromising in his vision. It hasn't worked out for him today; the risk has outweighed the reward, and Ole Gunanr Solskjaer has the players to pick out those defensive soft spots. There's surely more goals in this.

36' No-one will ever accuse Leeds United of not going all in. Newly promoted teams often hedge their bets in their first season. Marcelo Bielsa rips the kitchen sink out and hurls it as often as he can.

34' Raphinha! From the far side of the box, he drills the delivery from the corner in towards the right post. De Gea palms it into an offside visitor and the flag hands Manchester United the free-kick.

33' James now deflects an attempted Rodrigo cross, as Leeds continue to craft attacking options every time they get near the final third.

31' Dan James' inclusion raised eyebrows pre-match - he has been linked with finally completing a move to Leeds in the new year - but he's proved inspired so far. The visitors repel the corner with steadfast gumption.

30' Now the hosts have a corner, Ayling muscling the ball away from Martial. Rashford is having words with the referee, protesting a non-foul from Dallas that went uncalled.

29' Raphinha whips in Leeds' latest corner and the flag goes up for offside in the box. The visitors likely need the next goal here if they hope to salvage a result.

27' That being said, it has also definitely been the perfect storm of their tactical flaws so far. Harrison wins a corner and though the delivery goes nowhere, Dallas then wins a ball into the box to briefly threaten before Wan-Bissaka clears.

25' Bamford! Again, the striker goes close, nudging a free header over the crossbar after beating out Wan-Bissaka. This is far from the worst game of Marcelo Bielsa's tenure, even if the scoreline suggests it.

24' Ole Gunnar Solskjaer actually has a small smile playing around his lips. And why not? It will take some capitulation to lose from here. But Leeds are nothing if not persistent...

22' Leeds have had more ball here - of course they have! 56 per cent of it so far, as a matter of fact. The pitfalls of these Marcelo Bielsa sides, who shift form so fast up the pitch, is that a counter can tear them apart.

21' Patrick Bamford had an effort chalked off by VAR against Crystal Palace earlier this season, with the Eagles promptly scoring the very next play. There's a touch of deja vu here.

19' Bamford! Oh, the flag is up! Frustrating for the striker, who curls a deflected Rodrigo strike past De Gea at the right post, only for the linesman to have correctly flagged him in an offside position beforehand.

18' Maguire is forced into conceding a corner under pressure from Raphinha but the delivery is subsequently poor. James counters at a blistering pace and Dallas is the last defender who manages to cut him off near Leeds' penalty area.

16' Alioski comes crashing in on Rashford and concedes the foul, though the North Macedonia international escapes a yellow card. Fernandes pumps the free-kick in and Leeds repel the delivery.

14' Cooper has to execute a swift defensive block to deny a pass teased in towards Rashford. The visitors look to have fully clicked into gear now, even as they attempt to repel the hosts' high press.

13' If there were 70,000 people in Old Trafford right now, it would be bouncing. This has been a brilliant start from the hosts, bright and inventive. It's a world away from that tepid Manchester derby last week.

11' Meslier makes a clean take from the set-piece and Leeds all pile forward again. The Whites have outrun every one of their opponents in the Premier League this season.

10' Rashford! McTominay is the man rolling forward again, playing the England man in on the right. His shot is deflected, but the hosts win a corner in short order to keep up the pressure.

9' We knew this would be an entertaining match - or at the very least had high hopes it would be - but this has been madcap. Two goals inside three minutes, a raft of chances since. Madcap stuff.

8' Bamford! You wouldn't believe Leeds have conceded two already, they've been utterly single-minded since. Their attacker nudges a looping header in, then drills a throughball wide a moment later.

6' Marcelo Bielsa was crouched on his bucket, blowing on his steaming Bovril impassively after that first goal, but he is well up on his feet now. The Red Devils have flown out of the gates against his side.

4' It's almost 2-1! Raphinha gets perilously close to a square ball inside the hosts' box, one which Shaw was in no rush to clear before twigging the danger. What a frantic start!

1' We are underway in this Premier League clash between Manchester United and Leeds United!

Sir Alex Ferguson is sat, alone, in the stands on this dark, chilly evening. Of course the Scotsman was not going to miss this one.

There may be no fans at Old Trafford as the two teams emerge but surely that won't dampen the spirits here. This is a generation in the making.

That being said, a win here and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer takes his side third. So much has been made of this being a club in crisis. Three points here suggests otherwise.

Some may say this tie means nothing to Manchester United fans these days. They need their heads examining. Defeat here for the Red Devils is thoroughly unacceptable.

It doesn't come much bigger than this, does it? In years gone, whole careers at these clubs were staked on how their fared against these rivals. Who writes their name into history today?

Subs: Ian Poveda, Tyler Roberts, Kiko Casilla, Helder Costa, Pablo Hernandez, Pascal Struijk, Leif Davis, Jamie Shackleton, Oliver Casey.

LEEDS UNITED (4-1-4-1): Illan Meslier; Stuart Dallas, Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper, Ezgjan Alioski; Kalvin Phillips; Raphinha, Rodrigo, Mateusz Klich, Jack Harrison; Patrick Bamford.

Subs: Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood, Juan Mata, Dean Henderson, Alex Telles, Nemanja Matic, Donny van de Beek.

MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1): David de Gea; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw; Scott McTominay, Fred; Daniel James, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford; Anthony Martial.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Leeds make no changes to the side that ran riot against Newcastle United in midweek. Will Patrick Bamford be on fire up front today?

It's five changes from the Red Devils - but the eye-catching new arrival has to be Daniel James, who saw an 11th-hour move to today's opponents collapse before signing at Old Trafford.

As for Marcelo Bielsa? This year's Best FIFA Men's Coach bronze medalist stunned Alex Ferguson in 2012 here, when Athletic Bilbao outgunned United. Now, he lives and breathes Leeds.

Neither coach is under any illusions as to the weighty legacy of this game. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played in a fair few encounters - including their last Premier League match, in February 2004.

In a perverse way, absence has made the heart grow fonder. Leeds' top-flight exile has robbed their fans of days like these. Now, they finally reunite with the opposition they just love to hate.

It's almost one hundred years since these two first met - a goalless draw in the old Division Two in 1923. But this will be far from a tepid encounter. This is the modern-day War of the Roses.

To quote the Stone Roses, this is the one. Football's biggest inter-city rivalry on British shores has been absent for a generation - and today, it finally returns at the top of the festive tree.

Hello and welcome to live coverage of the 2020-21 Premier League season as Manchester United finally reignite their rivalry with Leeds United after a decade apart at Old Trafford.
