Calling out all girls! Be a part of Manchester City's #SameGoals campaign

An exciting initiative taken by Manchester as a part of their #SameGoals campaign for young girls who love football...

Last month, Manchester City’s #SameGoals campaign, an exciting initiative for young girls who love football returned and you can be part of the initiative.

Man City started the #SameGoals initiative in 2018 in an attempt to increase female participation in football. The main aim of the social movement is to inspire the next generation of women footballers.

The campaign has been a success since its inception, seeing over 4000 girls participate around the world.

#SameGoals pledges to deliver a special limited-edition football provided by PUMA to every girl who shares a video showing them scoring – or saving – a goal to grow her passion and help her focus on achieving her dreams.

To receive their free ball, girls need to post a video on Twitter or Instagram that shows them scoring – or saving – a goal using #SameGoals. The goal can be created anywhere using any kind of ball; the more creative, the better.*

Alternatively, participants can upload their video at www.mancity.com/samegoals.

In the previous years, Man City has hosted coaching clinics with the players in their hometowns, conducted grassroots tournaments and football festivals. This time around, in the midst of the pandemic, Man City are embracing the virtual world.

The club will work with PUMA to provide mentorship for female players and coaches in Mumbai with Parcham Collective and OSCAR foundation.

This will be a six-month programme which will have virtual sessions where coaches from Man City focus on leadership, communication, behaviour management and youth voice.

Another new addition to the initiative in 2021 is that whoever takes part in the campaign will have access to money-can't-buy competitions including the opportunity for seven teams to win a personalised Ultimate PUMA Team Bundle Team Package including full kits, footballs, equipment and bibs.

Manchester City and USWNT midfielder Sam Mewis said: “I’m really looking forward to being involved in this year’s #SameGoals. Even though I’ve only been at the Club for six months, I could see straight away how much Manchester City values encouraging girls of all ages to play football.”

Gavin Makel, Managing Director of Manchester City Women, added: “Increasing participation at grassroots level and encouraging young girls to have their first experience of playing football is something that we, as a Club, are tremendously passionate about.”

The campaign is part of Man City’s pledge and commitment to keep growing the game.

*As this initiative runs on social media, participants under the age of 13 will need to request the permission of their legal guardian and submit their goals using their parent or legal guardian’s social media account. The deadline for #SameGoals entries is 23:59 on Friday 12th March 2021.

Jamshedpur FC's ISL 2020-21 season: What went wrong, memorable moments, key players and more

Goal takes a look at the 2020-21 Indian Super League (ISL) season of Jamshedpur...

Jamshedpur ended their 2020-21 Indian Super League (ISL) campaign with a win against Bengaluru FC.

The Men of Style failed to qualify for the playoffs yet again and were not consistent in terms of results throughout the season. As a result, they finished the season in sixth place with 27 points from 20 matches. They are yet to qualify in their four-year history in ISL.

With Jamshedpur's league campaign coming to a close, Goal takes a look at their 2020-21 Indian Super League (ISL) season.

What went wrong for Jamshedpur in ISL 7?

Jamshedpur had a difficult time in front of the goal during the seventh season of ISL. They could only net 21 goals from their 20 leagues games - only Chennaiyin FC, Odisha FC and East Bengal have scored fewer goals this season.

Nerijus Valskis, the team's talisman and the 2019-20 Golden Boot winner, scored eight goals from the 18 games he played. The team's second-highest scorer is centre-back Stephen Eze who scored four goals. The other centre-back Peter Hartley has also scored twice whereas the only other striker in the squad David Grande netted twice in six matches during what was an injury-hit season.

Injuries have not helped Coyle and Jamshedpur at all. Nick Fitzgerald was out for a long time, especially at the start of the season. Amarjit, Grande and numerous other players were inured during the season, limiting Coyle's options. As such, Jamshedpur never really managed to gather momentum and go on a winning run at any point in the season.

What are the positives for Jamshedpur from ISL 7?

Despite the shortcoming in the final third, Owen Coyle, for the second season in a row in Indian football, showed that he has the ability to make good use of his squad in trying conditions. The Men of Steel were at the end of multiple irresponsible refereeing decisions in the first half of the season and later lost quite a few matches due to individual defensive errors.

And although they couldn't land a spot in the playoffs, their performances improved and this version of Jamshedpur looks more likely to succeed in ISL compared to the team that took the field last season.

Memorable Moment

Jamshedpur managed to beat both ATK Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City in their 'home' fixtures against these two teams. They are one of the teams who are unbeaten against the Islanders this season and a 2-0 win against Sergio Lobera's star-studded team came at an important juncture in their race for the top-four. Boris Singh and David Grande scored twice in the second half as Owen Coyle managed to outwit his counterpart effectively.

Jamshedpur's Player of the Season

Stephen Eze was solid at the back and contributed four goals to become the team's second-highest scorer this season. The Nigerian centre-back started every single game for the Men of Steel this season and was substituted off only once by Owen Coyle.

ISL 2020-21: FC Goa and Hyderabad share similar but different problems ahead of crunch tie

Hyderabad FC have a huge hole at the back and the same could be said about FC Goa...

Only two teams among FC Goa, Hyderabad FC and NorthEast United can fill in the two remaining 2020-21 Indian Super League (ISL) semi-finals' spots after Mumbai City and ATK Mohun Bagan confirmed their berths earlier in the season.

With the final round of games amid the race to finish in the top four, the Gaurs (30 points) are slightly in an advantage given that they have more points than Hyderabad (28) and currently a better goal difference against NorthEast United.

NorthEast United (4th, 30 points) drew level on points with Goa courtesy a 2-1 win over East Bengal on Tuesday as the Highlanders  now need just a point from their last game against Kerala Blasters on Friday, while Hyderabad are left in a must-win situation when they face Goa on Sunday.

All three of the remaining play-off contenders have dropped points thrice in their respective last five games but it's Hyderabad's 2-2 draw against ATK Mohun Bagan that has not given Mumbai City a lifeline to fight for the top spot against the Mariners but left Manuel Marquez's side handicapped with the events that transpired in the said fixture.

Aridane Santana picked his fourth yellow card of the game and will hence be suspended for the game against Goa. The Spaniard scored 10 of Hyderabad's 27 goals this season but his compatriot in Fran Sandaza brings something different to the table and has scored four times in 10 games. There are other options in attack as well.

However, with Asish Rai ruled out for the rest of the season after the knee injury he sustained in the 1-1 draw against East Bengal a couple of weeks ago and Adil Khan having moved to Goa on a short-term deal in January, Marquez is left with no other experienced defender to slot in for Chinglensana Singh who was given the marching orders in Hyderabad's last match.

Sahil Panwar, who is traditionally a left-back, looks like the only available bet to partner Odei Onaindia at the back because a three-man back-line is a highly unlikely proposal. However, there is a possibility that Joao Victor will partner Onaindia at the back instead. Nikhil Poojari has also shown that he can play as a right-back.

While Hyderabad have shown this season that they are a spirited team, they will have to shore up the defence in what is a crunch game.

FC Goa also have a conundrum when it comes to picking their overseas players. It remains to be seen whether Juan Ferrando opts to go with Jorge Ortiz or Alberto Noguera to play with Igor Angulo, or whether both start together.

The last time the two sides face in the reverse fixture in December, Igor Angulo and Ishan Pandita scored two late goals for Goa after Aridane had given Hyderabad the lead. But ever since, FC Goa have kept just the one clean sheet in 10 games.

As explained earlier, FC Goa got a crucial win in the race for the play-offs when they defeated Bengaluru FC 2-1 last weekend but they need to plug their defence - something that Hyderabad will be looking to exploit on Sunday.

Man Utd boss Solskjaer confirms Pogba set to miss a 'few weeks' more due to thigh injury

The Norwegian boss has revealed that the Frenchman is still in recovery, while Daniel James has also picked up a knock

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Paul Pogba is set to miss a "few more weeks" of action due to his thigh injury.

Pogba has been sidelined since limping off in the first half of United's 3-3 draw with Everton at Old Trafford on February 6.

The Frenchman has missed the club's last three matches in all competitions, including a 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday night, and Solskjaer isn't expecting him to return for a while yet.

What was said?

Solskjaer also revealed that Daniel James picked up a knock against Sociedad, whom the Red Devils knocked out of Europe with a 4-0 aggregate score, while delivering an update on the fitness of Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani.

"We will have to check on him tonight," the Norwegian head coach told BT Sport about James after the final whistle at Old Trafford.

"Scott, Donny, Edinson we hope they can be available for the weekend.

"Paul is still out for a few weeks."

How many more games will Pogba sit out?

Pogba will be unavailable for selection when United face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, where they will be aiming to pick up their first win of the season against one of the Premier League's 'big six' teams.

The midfielder will also likely be absent for subsequent top-flight fixtures against Crystal Palace and Manchester City, while a meeting with West Ham on March 14 could also come too soon for the World Cup winner.

Supporters will hope that Pogba can make his way back to the pitch in time for the Red Devils' FA Cup quarter-final clash against Leicester City seven days later, with the squad then scheduled to take in a much-needed break before a clash with Brighton on April 3.

The bigger picture

Pogba played a key role in United's rise to the Premier League summit earlier in the season, but Solskjaer has enough strength in depth to cope without him heading into a crucial period.

Bruno Fernandes has been a reliable source of goals and assists ever since his move to Old Trafford from Sporting CP in January 2020. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial can also provide plenty of firepower in the final third.

Meanwhile, Fred and Nemanja Matic are still on hand to keep things ticking over in defensive midfield berths as the Red Devils continue to compete on three trophy fronts.

'You do not want to feel like that again' - Tuanzebe says Man Utd progress inspired by prior Solskjaer slumps

The Red Devils' Europa League advancement continued a strong beginning to the calendar year

Manchester United's scoreless second-leg Europa League draw with Real Sociedad on Thursday was enough to ease them through to the last 16 and extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to a full month.

Despite the 4-0 aggregate win, Red Devils defender Axel Tuanzebe said his side have not forgotten some of their low points under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which now serve as inspiration to finish the campaign in style.

They were dumped out of the Champions League group stage in the fall and have been defeated in three domestic semi-finals and one continental semi-final since the start of 2020. The desire to avoid similar feelings of disappointment has proven a powerful motivator on the pitch.

What has been said?

"It takes a while to get momentum going, have faith in the manager and we are starting to build that," Tuanzebe told BT Sport. "It is not something done in a year or two, it is a long project and having faith in the coaching staff. The results are coming through.

"The disappointments always stay with you and you do not want to feel like that again, you try your best and ensure it does not happen again.

"This is Man Utd, all players who play for us are talented and the manager always has options. The personalities that United bring through are determined players and that shows when we get the chance to play."

Solskjaer, meanwhile, acknowledged "you remember the defeats more so than the wins" and said a determined mindset of self-improvement from previous let-downs was crucial.

The bigger picture

Cross-town rivals Manchester City have overshadowed Manchester United in 2021 with their ridiculous 19-match winning streak, but that relative quiet might actually suit a Red Devils squad that not too long ago was under intense fire for apparent stagnation under Solskjaer.

Despite dropping points to West Brom and Everton, they have crept into second place in the Premier League and are now on to the next round of the Europa League. Their match against Chelsea this weekend should provide another barometer of their current abilities.

Dortmund director Zorc disagrees with Raiola over Haaland transfer comments

The agent has been talking up the striking sensation this week, saying only 10 clubs in the world could think about signing him

Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc disagrees with Mino Raiola about the future of Erling Haaland.

Agent Raiola has been talking up Haaland this week, calling him “one of the future stars of the next decade” and saying there are only 10 clubs in the world who could afford to sign him.

Zorc is aware Haaland won’t be at Dortmund forever – but he thinks Raiola was being optimistic with his assertion.

What has been said?

Zorc told reporters: "It is clear that Erling Haaland can't and won't pick just any club after his time at Dortmund.

"I can't even pick out 10 possible clubs. So, there is no dissent. It was a normal statement he [Raiola] has to give from time to time.

"We are happy to have Erling here with us and that he has scored in the last games and proven his value for us. I can only say that we will continue to plan with him and I don't think he is uncomfortable here in Dortmund."

Where will Haaland end up?

Haaland is a Dortmund player for now, but it remains to be seen whether he will remain for another season under incoming manager Marco Rose.

Reports in Germany suggest Dortmund are more open to allowing Jadon Sancho to leave than Haaland, but a huge offer could test their resolve.

Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United are among the top clubs to have been linked.

The Spanish giants’ financial issues have been well publicised, however, with clubs around the world having to tighten their belts due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

For now, it seems as though the race for Haaland’s signature is a transfer saga that will run right through the summer – and possibly beyond.

'The culture is improving' - Solskjaer confident Man Utd heading in right direction after Europa League progress

The Norwegian is hoping his side can banish the memory of three semi-final defeats last term by securing major silverware in May

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is confident that Manchester United are heading in the right direction after seeing them progress in the Europa League, with the manager believing that the "culture is improving" at Old Trafford.

United reached the last 16 of Europe's second-tier competition after beating Real Sociedad 4-0 on aggregate in the round of 32 - finishing the job with a 0-0 draw on home soil on Thursday after a stunning first-leg performance last week.

The Red Devils were knocked out at the semi-final stage in 2019-20, but Solskjaer is hopeful they can go all the way this time around after using past failures as fuel to improve.

What was said?

The Norwegian boss told BT Sport post-match: "You remember the defeats more so than the wins. To get the semi-finals in any competition, you're so close.

"We've had three of them, we've lost one, so this group knows how it feels.

"We are a group that are very tight together. You come in, your work every day, you have a few setbacks and knocks.

"We want to go further but when you have failed before you want to do better.

"The culture is really improving and we've got some fantastic players and fantastic coaches."

What's next?

United will now look ahead to a Premier League meeting away at Chelsea on Sunday, which comes three days before they're due to take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Solskjaer added on the importance of maintaining focus heading into the business end of the campaign: "Now until the international break, I think we have six or seven games, all important games, so these three weeks now are going to be massive for us.

"But confidence is good and hopefully we will get a few players back in."

The bigger picture

United have slipped 10 points behind Manchester City in the Premier League title race, but haven't given up on the trophy just yet, with a trip to Etihad Stadium still to come next month.

They are also now being billed as favourites to win the Europa League, while an FA Cup quarter-final date against Leicester City is also looming large on the horizon.

Solskjaer still has a great chance of bringing the Red Devils' four-year trophy drought to an end, which will likely have a huge bearing on whether or not he is offered a contract extension later this year.

Europa League: Zungu returns to action as Aribo’s Rangers advance in style against Royal Antwerp

The South Africa midfielder made a cameo appearance in Steven Gerrard's team on Thursday after he was punished for breaking government rules

Bongani Zungu returned to action in the Uefa Europa League as Joe Aribo’s Rangers walloped Royal Antwerp 5-2 in the second leg of their round of 32 fixture.

A fortnight ago, Zungu was dropped from the Gers' first-team alongside four other players after breaching coronavirus lockdown rules in Scotland but he was drafted back to Steven Gerrard's team on Wednesday after they faced ‘strong disciplinary actions’.

A day later, the Bafana Bafana star was introduced as an 82nd-minute substitute for Steven Davis as Rangers cruised to the next round of the European competition with a 9-5 aggregate win.

Cameroon's Didier Lamkel Ze scored Antwerp's second goal at Ibrox Stadium but it was not enough as goals from Alfredo Morelos, Nathan Patterson, Ryan Kent, Borna Barisic and Cedric Itten completed the rout for the hosts.

Super Eagles duo Leon Balogun and Joe Aribo were on parade for Rangers but the former was replaced at half-time.

Thursday’s result made history as the first time Rangers scored five or more goals in the knockout round of a major European competition since October 1990.

The 9-5 aggregate score stands as the highest-scoring two-legged tie in the Europa League since Helsingborgs 8-6 Heerenveen in the 2007-08 first round.

"I am really proud of the boys and I thought the performance was outstanding in large parts,” Gerrard said in his post-game interview.

"Obviously, we've conceded a couple of goals which we will look at and try to grow from, but over the course of the two legs in-terms of our attacking quality and how dangerous we have looked, the players deserve a lot of credit for that.

"We have scored wonderful goals over both legs and we have caused this opposition endless problems.

"So we deserve to be in the draw tomorrow and we look forward to it with excitement. We park it up now and move onto the next challenge."

Aribo, Balogun and Zungu will turn their attention to next Premiership outing which is a trip to Livingston on March 3.

Rodgers admits Leicester deserved to lose after shock Europa League exit to Slavia Prague

The Foxes are flying high in the Premier League but their European ambitions are over for another season following their last-32 defeat

Aubameyang continues fine cup run as Arsenal survive Benfica scare

The Gabonese captain scored a late winning goal which sealed the Gunners' passage to the round of 16

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a brace to help Arsenal defeat Benfica 3-2 in the return fixture of their Uefa Europa League round of 32 clash on Thursday.

Aubameyang opened the scoring at the Emirates Stadium in the 21st minute and later grabbed the match-winning goal in the 87th minute when the game was tied at 2-2.

The 2015 African Footballer of the Year has now scored nine goals in seven of his last eight cup appearances for the Gunners - four goals in the FA Cup, three goals in the Europa League and one goal in the FA Community Shield.

The only cup match he failed to find the back of the net was the first-leg of their round of 32 outing against Benfica in Rome, where Bukayo Saka scored the only goal in their 1-1 draw.

Arsenal progressed to the round of 16 with a 3-2 aggregate victory over their Portuguese visitors on Thursday.

Aubameyang's late goal, however, has been drawing a lot of reactions on social media with Everton loanee Yannick Bolasie - who is currently with Championship club Middlesbrough - confessing his admiration for Arsenal.

Former Cameroon and Arsenal defender Lauren also lauded the Gunners' resilience as they ended their back-to-back winless run.

Aubameyang has contributed 13 goals in all competitions so far this campaign and he will be looking to build on his goalscoring form when Arsenal travel to King Power Stadium for Sunday's Premier League game against Leicester City.

The Gunners currently occupy the 11th spot in the league table with 34 points from 25 matches.

AC Milan's Kessie pays tribute to fallen Atalanta youngster Ta Bi after opening goal vs Red Star Belgrade

The Ivorian youngster died on Tuesday after battling with liver cancer for months

AC Milan captain Franck Kessie paid tribute to fallen Ivory Coast and Atalanta youngster Willy Braciano Ta Bi who died at the age of 21 this week.

The 24-year-old fired Stefano Pioli's men ahead in the ninth minute of their Uefa Europa League outing against Red Star Belgrade, with his strike from the penalty spot.

The effort was Kessie's eighth goal in all competitions this season which he marked uniquely in memory of his fallen compatriot.

He moved towards the sidelines to raise a white shirt which has "Adieu Champion Ta Bi Willy" written on it.

Shortly after the opener, Comoros striker El Fardou Ben Nabouhane scored an equaliser for the Serbian giants to put the aggregate score at 3-3 but AC Milan qualified for the round of 16 on away goals.

Ta Bi moved to Italy to join Atalanta from Ivory Coast's ASEC Mimosa in 2019 and he made an instant impact to help the team win the Italian youth title.

The Abidjan-born defensive midfielder captained the Ivory Coast at youth level before he made his international debut for the Elephants in 2017.

Atalanta confirmed the 21-year-old died in his home country just before their Uefa Champions League loss to Real Madrid which ended 1-0 on Wednesday.

“President Antonio Percassi and the whole Atalanta family are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Willy Braciano Ta Bi,” read a statement from the club website.

“A cruel fate prematurely interrupted a dream that had begun with the Nerazzurri shirt in January 2019.

“It took him a few months to play a leading role in the Primavera and help bring the Scudetto back to Bergamo, but, above all, to leave a great memory of himself.”

African legend Didier Drogba led his compatriots in mourning Ta Bi alongside Manchester United's Amad Diallo and several others.

Shoretire becomes Man Utd's youngest ever player in European competition

The teenage forward was handed his second senior appearance for the Red Devils against Real Sociedad this week

Shola Shoretire secured a place in Manchester United's history books after making his Europa League debut on Thursday night.

Shoretire came on in the second half of United's clash with Real Sociedad at Old Trafford, which ended in a 0-0 draw as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side progressed to the last 16 of the competition 4-0 on aggregate.

The teenager is now the youngest player to feature in Europe in the club's entire history, and looks well placed to follow in the footsteps of fellow academy graduates Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford in the coming years.

Whose record did Shoretire break?

When Shoretire came on for Greenwood at the age of just 17 years and 23 days, he beat the previous mark set by former United forward Norman Whiteside back in 1982.

Whiteside was 17 years and 131 days when he lined up in Europe for the first time, and he went on to feature in over 200 games across all competitions for the Manchester outfit.

What has been said about Shoretire?

Speaking to BT Sport after the game on Thursday, Solskjaer said: "Shola has got some skills, he's going to make a very good player here.

"It's a platform tonight, just 15 minutes but it's something to remember for him at Old Trafford. Maybe he would've enjoyed it more with fans because they give you so much energy.

"But I'm sure all the fans will see him soon."

In his post-game press conference, Solskjaer added: "He’s a young kid that we believe in. [He has] a great attitude, you can see the shape of him physically, he’s an athlete, technically very very good, makes good decisions.

"[We will] gradually feed him into this team and he’s got his feet firmly on the ground, a very likeable boy who hopefully we will see loads of in the future."

After Shoretire made his senior debut at the weekend against Newcastle, Rashford said: "Shola has been training with us now for a little while, and has done really well, [this] was the next step up.

"In the last transfer window we let a few players go out on loan, which made the path for him shorter and I'm sure he'll remember his five or six minutes on the pitch tonight."

What's next?

Shoretire will be back in contention for a place in Solskjaer's squad when United take in a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Sunday.

The 13-time Premier League winners are due to face Crystal Palace three days later, with Solskjaer likely to continue shuffling his pack amid a congested fixture list.

'If an Italian team played like Granada they'd get slaughtered!' - Gattuso slams La Liga outfit's tactics after Napoli crash out of Europe

The Partenopei boss expressed his frustration after seeing his side exit the Europa League at the round of 32 stage

Gennaro Gattuso slammed Granada's tactics after Napoli crashed out of Europe on Thursday, insisting that an Italian team "would get slaughtered in all the papers" if they played in the same way.

Granada knocked Napoli out of the Europa League after a 3-2 aggregate victory, despite losing 2-1 at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in the second leg of their last-32 encounter on Thursday night.

Gattuso expressed his frustration over the Spanish side's perceived negative approach to the game after the final whistle, accusing them of time-wasting and failing to show "respect" on the continental stage.

What was said?

“We conceded an absurd goal today, it was three against one in the box. I can’t remember any other chances for Granada. We have to be proud of what we showed," Gattuso told Sky Sport Italia.

“Those who represent us need to make themselves respected a bit more – if an Italian team played like Granada tonight, they would get slaughtered in all the papers. There needs to be respect, today they wasted too much time, three minutes at every opportunity.

“I’m angry not because we lost, but because there was very little play.”

How did Granada get the better of Napoli?

Granada picked up a surprise 2-0 victory in the first leg of the tie at Los Carmenes on February 18, which gave them a strong lead to defend in Naples.

Napoli gave supporters hope of a comeback when Piotr Zielinski scored a superb individual goal in the third minute of the return fixture, with the Polish midfielder firing low into the bottom corner from just outside the box after a commanding run.

However, Granada grabbed an all-important away goal 22 minutes later through Angel Montoro, who found the far corner of the net with a superb header.

Fabian Ruiz put the hosts back in front just before the hour mark with a neat finish, but Napoli ultimately failed to score the two further goals needed to progress to the round of 16.

Pressure builds on Gattuso

Gattuso's position as Napoli head coach has come under serious scrutiny in recent months, with this latest setback likely to lead to an increase in calls for the club to make a change in the dugout amid links with Maurizio Sarri and Rafael Benitez - both of whom have managed at the Armando Maradona in the past.

The Partenopei are now destined to finish the season without a trophy and they are also in real danger of missing out on a top-four Serie A finish, but Gattuso isn't shying away from the challenge at hand.

“Right now we need to get the players and the enthusiasm back," he added. "The players need to be calm, it’s me that people should be bothering here.

"I’m the one who’s most responsible. Now, we have to get to work, it’ll be important for us. The Napoli shirt is a heavy weight, but we need to be calm and give that little bit extra.”

The 2020 Serie A season was due to begin on May 3 and end in December but, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the tournament calendar was paused before eventually starting in August. It now comes to an end with the last round of fixtures on Thursday, with all 20 teams in action simultaneously.

How to watch Sao Paulo vs Flamengo:

It has been a turbulent season for defending Brazilian and South American champions Flamengo, but one they can now finish by retaining their Serie A crown.

Pep Guardiola's former assistant Domenec Torrent was chosen to replace the wildly successful Jorge Jesus, but lasted a matter of months in the hotseat before being sacked in favour of Sao Paulo legend Rogerio Ceni.

Ceni oversaw Fla's shock Copa Libertadores exit at the hands of Racing Club but has kept them competitive in their bid to retain the Serie A title, with the Rio club coming from behind to beat Internacional and go two points clear ahead of the last day of the season.

Ceni's charges need only match Inter's result in their final match against Sao Paulo, already safely qualified for the 2021 Libertadores, to be confirmed as champions once more.

Should Inter triumph over Corinthians and Flamengo fail to win, however, the title will be on its way to Porto Alegre by virtue of the Colorados' superior goal difference.

'Willian changed the game' - Arteta singles out under-fire winger for praise after Arsenal beat Benfica

The Brazilian registered an important assist just minutes after coming off the bench, helping the Gunners keep their Europa League dream alive

Mikel Arteta singled out the under-fire Willian for praise after he played a key part in Arsenal’s comeback win over Benfica on Thursday.

The Gunners kept their hopes of Europa League glory – and Champions League qualification – alive, coming back from a goal down to win 3-2 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate.

Willian, who has struggled to make an impact since his summer move from Chelsea, came on just after Benfica’s second goal, and soon assisted Kieran Tierney for the equaliser. Bukayo Saka then crossed for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to nod in a late winner.

What has been said?

Arteta told reporters: “Willian specifically, I think he changed the game. He gave us much more composure in moments, produced some creativity, produced the goal for Kieran and we need everybody on board.”

He also praised Tierney’s impact: “The way I’d describe him is all determination, all passion for what he does.

“The way he has come back from his injury and how willing he is to help the team … he gives us a big lift.”

Auba: This is an example for us

Match-winner Aubameyang said Arsenal could use the performance as an example for their upcoming fixtures.

"Everyone is happy tonight,” he told BT Sport. “This is what gives me power every day, taking errors from the past and transforming to strength.

"The team showed a lot of character and we deserved the win. It was a hard game. What we showed tonight will be an example for the future."

The bigger picture

Arsenal now face a difficult run of Premier League fixtures against Leicester, Burnley, Tottenham, West Ham and Liverpool.

Currently 11th in the table, Arsenal are 11 points off the top four and may see the Europa League as their only hope of qualifying for next season's Champions League.

The draw for the last 16 will take place on Friday, with the next round to be played on March 11 and March 18.

'We remain confident' - Orlando Pirates coach Zinnbauer eyes Nedbank Cup glory

The German tactician also discussed Bucs' injury woes with Thembinkosi Lorch having picked up an injury against SuperSport

Orlando Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer has set his sights on Nedbank Cup glory with the Soweto giants scheduled to face Maritzburg United on Saturday.

Bucs will square off with Maritzburg in the Last 16 encounter at Harry Gwala Stadium, having eliminated National First Division (NFD) side Uthongathi FC in the Last 32 match on February 6.

Zinnbauer has already guided Pirates to the MTN8 title triumph earlier this season as the Soweto giants defeated Bloemfontein Celtic 2-1 in the final to end the club's six-year trophy drought.

The Buccaneers are coming off a 1-1 draw with SuperSport United in a PSL match on Wednesday and Zinnbauer is now eager to lead Bucs to the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup.

What's been said

"We remain confident. We have the self-belief, the squad and the quality of players we have are capable," Zinnbauer was quoted as saying on Daily Sun

"We did well in the MTN8 where we kept advancing to the later rounds and did well in that competition where no one trusted us to win it.

"We have a title now already, so now we'll try to do our best," the former St Gallen manager continued.

"We have improved in the Caf Confederation Cup two legs [against Jwaneng Galaxy] and now we are focusing on this competition. We have to secure our passage to the next round.

“We have more than eight players out and this is not easy, but we have to accept this and improve."

Why does it matter & what's the bigger picture?

Pirates are challenging for major trophies this season as the reigning MTN8 champions are in the Nedbank Cup Last 16, Caf Confederation Cup group stage and they are also placed fourth on the PSL standings.  The last time the Buccaneers won more than one major trophy in a single season was during the 2011/12 campaign when they clinched a domestic treble - lifting the MTN8 title, Telkom Knockout trophy and the PSL title.  Bucs are the second most decorated club in the history of the Nedbank Cup with eight titles and they are looking to edge closer to record winners, Kaizer Chiefs, who have won 13 trophies. Pirates will be banking on their good record against Maritzburg as they are undefeated in their last 10 competitive clashes against the Team of Choice - recording five wins and three draws.

Asante Kotoko's Ghana Premier League clash with Bechem United rained off amid Hearts of Oak showdown concerns

The Porcupine Warriors were unable to take on The Hunters as planned owing to torrential rains on Thursday

Asante Kotoko's Ghana Premier League encounter with Bechem United which was scheduled for Thursday has been postponed, the Kumasi-based club has announced.

The scheduled matchday 16 fixture had to be rescheduled owing to a heavy downpour which made the Accra Sports Stadium pitch unplayable.

No official communication has yet come from the Ghana Football Association on the subject but the governing body is expected to soon make an announcement about the status and future of the game.

It is unclear if the tie will be rescheduled to Friday as was likely to have been done under ordinary circumstances, considering Kotoko will then only have two days to prepare for their upcoming showdown with archrivals Hearts of Oak on Sunday.

"Our game this evening has been called off due to the rains. We await further directives from the Ghana Football Association," Kotoko have announced on social media.

Kotoko were due to return to GPL action against Bechem, having missed the matchday 16 round of games last weekend owing to their participation in the Caf Confederation Cup.

Eliminated from the continental gathering despite a 0-0 draw away against Algerian outfit ES Setif on Sunday, the Porcupine Warriors had hoped to promptly bounce back with three points against The Hunters to appease their fans.

The side currently occupies seventh position on the standings, five points adrift of league leaders Karela United. With three outstanding games, however, the Warriors have a good chance of taking over top position.

Bechem, meanwhile, were eyeing an upset to earn a first win in three games, having drawn 1-1 with Legon Cities in their last match after a 2-0 away loss to Medeama.

The Hunters are just one place above the Fabulous Boys on the league table although both teams have the same number of points.

Kotoko are bracing themselves for Sunday's big game against Hearts in what is the biggest fixture of the domestic football calendar.

The two teams are unarguably the biggest in Ghana and the most successful in the history of the Premier League. Of the two, Kotoko sit supreme with 23 titles, four more than Hearts, who are also interestingly tied on the same points with Kotoko on this season's league table but with a better goal difference.
